Clive Barker’s ‘Rawhead Rex’ Getting 4K Restoration and Blu-ray Release

What a time to be alive, huh?

Clive Barker famously described the screen version of titular creature Rawhead Rex in George Pavlou’s 1986 film as looking like a “9-foot tall phallus with teeth,” and he’s made no bones about the fact that he wasn’t very happy with how the “Books of Blood” adaptation turned out. And indeed it’s a pretty bad movie. A charmingly bad movie, but a bad movie all the same.

That said, you probably want to own it on Blu-ray. We know you do. Because we do too.

And guess what?! Kino Lorber just announced on Twitter that not only is a 4K restoration of Rawhead Rex coming to theaters this summer, but a Blu-ray will be out by Halloween!

In Rawhead Rex

Ireland will never be the same after Rawhead Rex, a particularly nasty demon, is released from his underground prison by an unwitting farmer. The film follows Rex’s cross country rampage, while a man struggles to stop it.

Check out the vintage (totally unrestored) trailer below!

of course i’ll own this i cant remember if i saw it but chances are i did

  • Mike Wallace

I wish someone would remake this. It’s one of my favorite CB stories ever.

  • Munchie

SO weird, I was just thinking I wanted this on Blu. Terrible, fun film.

Whatever happened to Pig’s Blood Blues? After Scream Factory’s Nightbreed, Book of Blood, and Dread, Clive seemed a little bit excited about getting some of his work put to film. Then . . . silence.

      as ever

  • Jesse Hammer

I can understand a Blu-Ray but who the hell’s gonna go see this in the theater?

    • Mike Kruger

  • Colin Christian

It’s not great but I’ve seen a lot of movies that are way worse! I like the monster and a priest gets peed on,c’mon what else do you need?

  • sweetooth0

totally getting this even if it is a steaming pile of shit (the book and graphic novel adaptation were much, much better). But what a time we live in when Rawhead Rex gets a 4K restoration, ha ha ha ha!

  • President Thorn

Hopefully this is the beginning of a Rawhead Revolution.
Sequels! Action Figures! Halloween Masks! Breakfast Cereal! Underoos!

    • Grither 57

“Rawhead Underoos”. Brain, get outta the gutter!!!

  • Brian VonDerahe

  • Doby Gillis

Why waste money on this piece of shit?

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

Far worse pieces of shit they can (and have) spent money to restore than RawHead. I’ll pick this one up for sure.

  • Pretty shocking. This hasn’t been in print since practically the first days of DVD.

  • The Cropsy

I should be interviewing the director, George Pavlou, very soon. He seems like he’s ready to talk about the film. And possibly a commentary, according to Kino Lorber.

  • David Tucker

Oh man… I’ve been waiting for this for YEARS… I always figured Scream Factory would snag it. Glad to see it’s being distributed by another good home!

  • Maxime C

I think it might be the first horror movie I’ve seen, ever.
    Awesome memories!!
