‘Inside’ Directors’ ‘Texas Chainsaw’-esque ‘Among The Living’ is Streaming on Shudder!

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the French filmmakers behind Inside, have been cursed when it comes to their films here in the States. Not only has Dimension yet to release their nightmare-come-to-life Livide but their Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel, Leatherface, has been going through hell as they wait for Lionsgate to distribute.

Speaking of Leatherface, the duo has had issues finding distribution for their Texas Chainsaw Massacre-inspired Among the Living, which has been sitting on a shelf since 2014. Now, thanks to Shudder, you can watch it today.

The French coming-of-age horror story follows three boys realizing their average small town is not what it seems. Under the surface of a dusty film studio, they discover a horrific secret that puts their lives in the crosshairs of danger.

Here’s an exclusive first look:

Among the Living is like a mix of Stand By Me, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and It. The footage teases an 80’s atmosphere with the children, but it descends into Texas Chainsaw-like madness by the final frame.

Youngsters, Victor, Dan and Tom skip school to wander around an abandoned movie set. They stumble upon a horrific vision: a woman in chains is dragged through the field by a man wearing a clown mask. The masked man catches a glimpse of the boys, who scramble to run away. But, before they can escape, they see something which has been hidden for years, something they were not meant to see. Terrified of having been seen by the masked man, the boys try to alert the police. Unfortunately, their past record of unruly behavior discredits them and the police do not follow up on their tipoff. That night someone breaks into their homes, seeking to eliminate them…one after another… They are going to meet Klarence…

Chloe Coulloud, Lannick Gautry, Francis Renaud, and Beatrice Dalle (Inside) all star.
