Glen Hiding in Plain Sight in the ‘Cult of Chucky’ Trailer?

Published

Well this sure is interesting.

Over on the official (verified) Chucky Facebook page last night, a video was uploaded along with a caption teasing the return of a character to the Child’s Play universe.

Someone has come back to the world of Chucky,” the video was captioned. “Any theories on his return?

We already know that Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) will be back in Cult of Chucky, and the aforementioned video makes it clear that it’s not Andy who’s being referred to. When you hit play on the video, it’s a looped clip from last week’s trailer. The Chucky doll opens its eyes, and a man sitting on a couch has a horrified reaction…

This character is prominently featured in the Cult of Chucky trailer, and a quick look over on IMDb reveals that he’s played by Adam Hurtig. Oddly enough, Hurtig played the role of Officer Stanton in Curse of Chucky… a character who had his throat slit in the final act by Tiffany/Jennifer Tilly.

Is Officer Stanton somehow still alive? Or is Hurtig actually playing a different character in Cult of Chucky? Well get this. According to Hurtig’s IMDb page (and yes, we realize those can and often have been edited by fans), he’s playing GLEN in Cult of Chucky.

Similarly, red-haired actress Allison Dawn Doiron is listed as playing Rachel / GLENDA.

It was rumored even before the Cult of Chucky trailer hit that Glen and Glenda were going to make their return in the new film, and with Don Mancini working hard to tie ALL of the Child’s Play films together, that seems like a pretty safe bet. As we saw at the end of Seed of Chucky, the spirits residing within the Glen/Glenda doll had inhabited the bodies of a young boy and a young girl; the events of that film were set years before this year’s new sequel, meaning that Glen and Glenda would presumably now be young adults.

Even if the IMDb listings for Hurtig and Doiron were edited by a fan (and they probably were), last night’s official Facebook post sure seems to confirm the rumor. Both actors have red hair and certainly look the parts, so we’re feeling pretty good about speculating that they are in fact playing Glen and Glenda in Cult of Chucky.

What other theory could the official FB page possibly be hinting at?

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
