Frank Grillo Blows Up Aliens in New ‘Beyond Skyline’ Trailer

We’ve been talking about Beyond Skyline, the sequel to 2010’s Skyline, for a few years now. The film, directed by Liam O’Donnell, was actually shot back in 2015, and we’ve now learned that it’s finally going to world premiere at Sitges this coming October.

Ahead of the premiere, Ain’t it Cool News just got their hands on the new international trailer, which introduces a premise I didn’t know I needed until this very moment: Frank Grillo (The Purge: AnarchyElection Year) kicking the shit out of alien invaders.

Yes please!

A tough-as-nails detective embarks on a relentless pursuit to free his son from a nightmarish alien warship.

The full cast includes Bojana Novakovic (Drag Me to Hell, Devil), Jonny Weston (Under the Bed, Project Almanac), Iko Uwais, Callan Mulvey, Antonio Fargas, Pamelyn Chee, Yayan Ruhian, Jacob Vargas, Valentine Payen, Betty Gabriel, Jack Chausse, and Kevin O’Donnell.

Liam O’Donnell also wrote the film.

Keith, i think you and i are the only ones who liked/loved the original film! 🙂

Ha no! The first one was great. I’m always wary when they try to make a sequel ‘bigger’ but this look promising… Having the first movie take place entirely in that building left so much open for expansion – so it’s a good way to go!

Oh god the original was a fucking mess
    Least wanted sequel ever ?

    • Yakushiji Tenzen

This one looks like it will be A LOT better. Mainly because of Frank Grillo and Iko Uwais.

      • Simon Allen

it wouldn’t have to do a lot .

    • The One and Only

Chipmunks and Cheaper By The Dozen always screamed the least wanted sequels ever to me.

  • Rodney Annonymous

The first one was flawed but fun and this one looks like a hoot

  • Necro

No thanks! The first one was an abysmal, puke pile of shit!

  • J Jett

YES! this looks awesome! i’m one of the very few(?) who actually loved the first film. i also love Frank Grillo (yes, i’m in love with him too! LOL). so combining the 2 into a kick ass sci-fi creature feature equals HELL YES!

I didn’t LOVE the first one but I actually find it pretty fun, so you’re not alone.

Well can’t say I loved the first film but I can’t blame you for being in love with Frank either hahaha, this trailer looks pretty decent and fun

      • J Jett

        right?! 🙂
        Grillo = yummy! 🙂

There was one thing interesting in the original Skyline at the very end that made me look forward to a sequel. Looks like they abandoned it, great.

    • J Jett

Ivan, if i’m understanding what part of SKYLINE you’re referring to (the cliffhanger), then i too REALLY wanted this sequel to continue with the cliffhanger’s storyline gig.

  • Mr. Dry

The first one wasn’t that great or original but I actually find it pretty fine, like a sunday flick which you don’t pay that much attention to. This one seems to be in the same group.

I kinda like the first one. Better than Battle: LA.

  • Pf Mahan

the first one was better than I expected , for the budget it was quite impressive

  • pablitonizer

Wow when did this happen?? Not the 1st one was great but it was decent. This one looks prettyfun too!

  • Pluto Hiller

It would be sweet if this turned out to not only be a sequel to Skyline, but a part of the Cloverfield universe. Well, maybe I’m trying to say it would be better if they ditched the Skyline tie in and went the Cloverfield universe route with it?

  • KSE1977

The first Skyline was fun, mainly because they did so much with so little. Not as much as the first Monsters, but still or a small budget flick it was solid. Having said that, the best parts were during the credits.

    • Agreed, that ending was pretty intense. This sequel should be a great one to catch streaming down the line.

  • gene wells

liked Skyline, love Frank, call me excited 🙂

  • David

Why? What imaginary audience is clamoring for this movie. The first one was so godawful that the name will likely turn people off. They might as well have just made a movie that had no connection to the previous one and called it something else.
