Sony Pictures Has Reportedly Come Aboard Reboot ‘The Crow Reborn’

Published

on

For the last several years now, a reboot of The Crow has been in various stages of development. Most recently, we heard that Corin Hardy (The Nun) was set to direct, with Jason Momoa (Aquaman) attached to star; that’s apparently still the plan… with Sony now on board.

Tracking Board reports today that Sony Pictures has signed on to distribute The Crow Reborn worldwide, this according to multiple inside sources.

While it’s a bit unclear whether Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy remain attached to respectively star in and direct the film,” the site notes, “insiders suggest both men are still part of the studio’s plan.”

The Crow Reborn is being described as a reboot as well as a more faithful adaptation of the original graphic novel written by James O’Barr.

Samuel Hadida’s Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow previously acquired the rights to finance, produce and distribute the film.

Edward R. Pressman, who produced the original 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, will produce The Crow Reborn alongside Hadida and Kevin Misher of Misher Films. Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow are also producing, with HFG handling international sales. The movie was developed by Pressman and Relativity.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
