‘Cult of Chucky’ Already Coming to Netflix in October!

Not only does Don Mancini’s Cult of Chucky arrive October 3 on unrated Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital, but as we told you just last week, the seventh installment in the Child’s Play franchise is also playing as part of this year’s AMC FearFest, kicking off on October 23.

Additionally, IGN reports that Cult of Chucky will arrive on Netflix (US) October 3!

In the brand new sequel…

Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay, Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany, Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.

Brad Dourif once again provides Chucky’s voice, while his daughter, Fiona, will be reprising her Curse role. Also returning are Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky), Jennifer Tilly (Bride of ChuckySeed of Chucky and Curse of Chucky) and Alex Vincent, star of the first two Child’s Play films who returned in a shocking post-credits sequence in Curse.

The Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital releases include two featurettes: a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, called Inside the Insanity of Chucky, and a peek into Alterian, the studio behind Chucky’s puppeteering, called Good Guy Gone Bad: The Incarnations of Chucky. The movie also comes with a commentary featuring writer-director Mancini and head puppeteer Tony Gardner.

In addition to the individual release, Cult of Chucky will be part of the Chucky: Complete 7-Movie Collection, also releasing Oct. 3.

Just spent the last four days watching all the past films in time for this. I’ve been looking forward to this since Curse was announced. Oh and because other people have mentioned their order of favourite this is mine: 1, 2, Bride, Seed, Curse (never liked number 3).

    • Dave

You put Seed above Curse? Interesting. IMO seed doesn’t even exist. I put that on par with Jason X or Freddys Dead. Just embarrassments to the franchise. but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Can’t wait for Curse!

      • Oscar Stoker

You both mean you’re looking forward to “Cult” not “Curse” right?

      • DJV1985

I did it wrong lol I meant Bride, I’m a fan of Jennifer Tilly so yh it shouldn’t say Seed but Bride (although I did enjoy Seed) lol

  • First it was announced to air on television less than a month after its home media release, and now it’s going to Netflix on the same day?! This is very, very odd…

    • Daniel Baldwin

Universal likely made back a chunk of the budget instantly from both the Netflix and television deals. Fans buying it immediately and curious viewers renting it on VOD in the coming months will send it into the black in quick time. It’s a weird paradigm, but one that seems to work for stuff like this. Changing world and all that.

      • Khy

Exactly, world and viewing patterns are changing. Not the same as it was 10 years ago.

    • Justin McGill

Not really. Universal seems to have some kind of deal in place for it’s dtv content.

  • Khy

I would be excited but it’ll most likely be the R rated version. Netflix has the R rated Curse of Chucky.
    Give me the unrated.

  • J Jett

is this one of the first times (or THE first time) that a movie has been released on disc and on TV/Netflix on the same day?

    • Khy

I believe so. Or at least this is the biggest movie to have done that.

    • Justin McGill

No.. Universal has some kind of deal. Titles previously released day and date Hard Target 2, Kindergarten Cop 2 and Cop and a Half 2 come to mind. I’m sure there are more. So it looks like they have a deal for their dtv content.

      • J Jett

thanx for the info/clarification Justin! 🙂

        • Justin McGill

You’re welcome.. If I hadn’t noticed it happening before I’d think universal must think it’s a stinker. Now every time I hear about a universal dtv sequel I see when it drops in Netflix. Usually day and date.

  • MrX13

Will definitely watch Cult on Netflix when it comes out! Been a fan since the beginning…and the fact that Dourif has continued to voice Chucky is badass. Can’t wait!

    Child’s Play
    Child’s Play 2
    Child’s Play 3
    Curse of Chucky
    Bride of Chucky
    Seed of Chucky

I know it’s almost in the exact order but it’s what I like

    • Demented Daniel

The whole reason I enjoy this series is mainly because of Dourif. His voice and delivery is perfect for this.

      • MrX13

Most definitely! I like how he’s been with every Chucky movie

  • Kristoffer Groves

I’m looking forward to this one, but i’ll be pissed if they don’t throw in at least a couple Cuckoo’s Nest references.

  • gjk2012 .

So I guess AMC cutting a deal to show this during Fear Fest was for nothing then?

  • Phenom921

Yeah i preordered the new Blu-Ray collection on Amazon. I can’t wait for it to arrive!!!

    • Joshua

Me too. I’m giving my previous Child’s Play collection to a friend. I really like the box art of the new collection.

  • Reece Catlin

no theatrical release?? the studio must not have much faith in the movie.

    • Phenom921

Curse of Chucky is awesome. It is one of my favorites in the franchise, and it had no theatrical release.

    • Joshua

I really wanted to see it in theaters. I bet it would have made more money than IT. A talking, cursing doll is much scarier than a clown.

  • Joshua

Damn it. I wanted to see this in the big screen. They say it’s the best Child’s Play. Why didn’t they give Chucky some love and bring it to theaters. It would have been a success. Not enough horror movies in theaters these days. Everything is straight to video. Sad.

    • Luca Vasto

      totally agree….
      universal sucks

  • Mr. Red Right Hand

honestly, i think tiffany should have her own film

  • Luca Vasto

the only hope for this franchise to go back to the respect it deserves. is the following: Universal must lose the rights.
NO Universal, YES world theatrical release
