Long-Delayed ‘Amityville: The Awakening’ Finally Gets Firm October Date

Forty years later, something is stirring again at 112 Ocean Avenue.

After being bumped several times and then completely pulled from the schedule entirely, we’re happy to report that Dimension is finally releasing new franchise installment Amityville: The Awakening this Halloween season.

The film will debut exclusively for free for a limited time on Google Play, starting October 12, and will also be released by Dimension Films in select theaters on October 28.

While you wait, check out a new clip and new images below.

In Amityville: The Awakening, written and directed by Franck Khalfoun

i loved it. ok it’s not the best horror movie in the world but i think it’s a smart one. at least it’s far better than Leatherface

    • Laura Kinney (X-23)

I beg to differ. But that’s just my opinion.

      • ItalianBadAss37

        It’s been online for months.

        • Laura Kinney (X-23)

Cereal? Shit, I might check it out… Even though ghost/possession movies aren’t my thing. (With the exception of Conjuring 2)

But there are too many of these types of films IMO. Still, I might give it a go.

        • J Jett

is it the actual film online though? i’ve only managed to find it at 1 site and most/many(?) of them seem to be fakes.

          • ItalianBadAss37

There are 2 sites that I know have some decent quality versions.

          • J Jett

thanx! i will try to find them.
are they cams or BR (or dvd)?

          • ItalianBadAss37

Email me at and I’ll send you the links. I’d post them here but I’d hate to see it get deleted.

          • J Jett

            thanx my friend! done! 🙂

I’ve heard all of this before, hope this time u guys got a chance to see it there in the States, I already watched it in theaters here in Mexico about two weeks ago, but something tells me that I didn’t watch the final cut; it’s not a big deal this installment, nothing new we haven’t seen before, but Bella Thorne gives a great performance and carries the film very well, the other characters are well too, Jennifer Jason Leigh as the mother does a good job and the ending was kinda good. As for the horror, well it didn’t scare me but it was very entertaining, a little bit slow at times, but it was fine.

For free? I mean do they have that much hope of making any money back that they’re offering it for free on google play? Okay I mean I’ll watch it for free but I think unless it does a new spin on the age old (tired) haunted house/possession film then I don’t think it’ll get more than one watch out of me.

    • Likely GooglePlay licensed the film for a pretty penny to help draw in traffic. It might not be a ton of dough, but I figure the Weinstein will take what they can get on it at this point.

      • DJV1985

Yh seems like the film might be a dud which is a shame because there could be alot done with the original plot and story going from the straight up horror film with a group of teens looking into the legend of the house and being tormented by the same demon as the original original family (Defoes) but I’ll hold my final judgement until I’ve watched it…when it comes out lol

    • Reece Catlin

yeah, I was excited when I saw the trailer a couple of years ago.

  • Nicolas Caiveau

Cool, it was about time ! Now if they could give us a release date for Hellraiser 10…

  • Nia Snacks

It’s 2017 and we still have horror movies about some hot chick running around a haunted house. It’s not believable. Every actor or actress doesn’t need to be a model in a horror movie. We have porn for that. Make something more believable. Isn’t the audience supposed to want the victims to live?

    • J Jett

it appears not to be the case. in way too many horror movies these days the “protagonists” are written to be completely unlikable and impossible to root for.

    • HarryWarden

So just because a person is attractive, they can’t also be likeable?

  • J Jett

“In select theaters” probably means like 3 theaters total.

  • BreeBennett

    I’m watching it this sunday.

    • Micah Unice

      How? Where? Share the wealth.

      • BreeBennett

It was released in theaters here in Brazil.

  • Khy

I was so excited for this movie back in 2014 but now after all the reshoots and re-editing they have been doing over the past three years- I’m sure it’s shit.

  • khail19

What? But it’s been released in my country last month!

  • jammastrjess

After delaying it and then pulling it altogether, I feel like this is actually bad news?

  • Reece Catlin

For free?? so that means someone will probably rip it and most people will see it before the end of Oct.

  • Mr. Red Right Hand

how long ago was this movie made? like 3-5 years? the film must not be very good since they’ve delayed releasing this for so long…

  • AriesSiren

They butchered it for a pg13. Wait for the original R version.

  • Mr. Screamer

  • Noah Garcia

    Wow Belle Thorne!?
Trash. But I’ll probably still watch it.

  • Seun LAGOKE

If Blumhouse can’t even make money off of this, it must be THAT bad. Especially considering they managed to make money off The Darkness and The Gallows.

  • Evan Kiesler

I’ll say this , at least this one has the RIGHT HOUSE this time
