Ridley Scott Says Next ‘Alien’ Movie Will Again Shift Focus Away from Xenomorphs

Published

We’re not so sure that Ridley Scott is even going to get the opportunity to continue his series of Alien prequels, but to his credit, he still seems as passionate about his vision as ever. With Prometheus, he attempted to stray away from the story of the Xenomorphs, while fan demand forced him to bring the iconic monsters back into the fold for Alien: Covenant.

So what’s the plan for a sequel to Alien: Covenant, if Fox gives Scott the green light? Well, don’t be expecting all that much Xenomorph action.

Speaking with The Empire Film Podcast, Scott just detailed his vision for the next film.

I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over,” Scott revealed. “But what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.’s. The world that the AI might create as a leader if he finds himself onto a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one.”

Scott had previously said that he wants the prequel franchise to bridge directly into the original Alien, but it seems pretty clear that his real focus is on Michael Fassbender’s David. The end of Alien: Covenant sent David off to a brand new planet, Origae-6, where he’ll presumably be free to play God and create his own world.

And don’t forget that he brought Face Hugger embryos aboard the ship…

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
