‘The Vanishing of Ethan Carter’ Heads to XBox One January 19th With New Mode

It’s taken a while, but The Astronauts’ award-winning 2014 horror-adventure The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is finally making its way to XBox One. The BAFTA-winning game will arrive on Microsoft’s console January 19th, and will set you back $20 USD. In addition, the game will also support 4K resolution on your shiny new XBox One X.

Further sweetening the deal is a new Free Roam mode, a much-requested feature by players to the devs, which now allows the player to explore Red Creek Valley without all of that murder stuff going on.

Originally released way back in 2014 on Steam, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter sold 60,000 copies in its first month on sale. The PlayStation 4 received a port the following year. The story for the game has the player assuming the role of Paranormal investigator Paul Prospero. Prospero receives a fan letter from one 12-year-old Ethan Carter, inspiring him to come to Ethan’s hometown of Red Creek Valley, Wisconsin. Upon his arrival, however, Prospero begins experiencing paranormal phenomena, as well as evidence of some recent dark happenings in the tiny town.

The Astronauts’ upcoming game, Witchfire, was revealed at last year’s The Game Awards.
