Nicolas Cage Stars in ‘The Wicker Man’ Remake

I’m going to stick myself in the minority here, but I hate the original Wicker Man and cannot wait for Hollywood to get their grubby little fingers working on the remake. The Wicker Man, which will star Nicolas Cage, will be directed by Neil LaBute, who agrees with me that the original had potential, but needs a major upgrade. Stuart Gordan’s Dagon was better than the original Wicker. Read on for the story…
Variety writes:

“Nicolas Cage’s next picture will be director Neil LaBute’s remake of 1973 thriller “The Wicker Man,” with Millennium Films, Equity Pictures and Emmett/Furla Films producing.

LaBute adapted the screenplay, in which a sheriff investigates the disappearance of a young girl on a remote island off the coast of Maine. His hopes of unraveling the girl’s disappearance become increasingly uncertain when he discovers evidence of pagan rituals.

Pic will begin production July 15 in Vancouver. Millennium acquired the remake rights from Canal Plus.

Avi Lerner, Randall Emmett and Joanne Sellers, along with Cage and his Saturn Films partner Norm Golightly, will produce “Wicker Man.”

Millennium’s Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Trevor Short and Danny Dimbort will exec produce along with Emmett/Furla’s George Furla and Equity Pictures’ Andreas Thiesmeyer and Josef Lautenschlager.

Millennium is in post on “Edison,” which, like “Wicker Man,” is produced under its multipicture deal with Emmett/Furla.”
