God bless comic books, the only place where you can create something so stupid, so over the top, that it just plain rocks. Would I ever want to see a Army of Darkness vs Re-Animator movie? F no, but bring that comic on! Read on for details on this bad boy from Dynamite Entertainment…
As announced in the new issue of Diamond’s Previews for books on sale in July, after two successful limited series, Dynamite Entertainment is launching its Army of Darkness license into a monthly series, and they’ll start with a story arc featuring an unexpected crossover with another cult-classic horror property, H.P. Lovecraft’s the Re-Animator.
Written by James Kuhoric with art by Sanford Greene and Scott Kester, according to Dynamite, the first issue finds AoD’s Ash, “…Committed to Arkham Asylum. It’s here that he runs afoul of a rather ghoulish and creepy Herbert West… and the battle of the century begins!”
Fans of the Lovecraft creation know that Herbert West is a scientist obsessed with cheating death. “He discovers a serum that can be injected into the brain of the recently deceased that brings them back to life. But these revived people are no longer our friends, relatives or loved ones. They’re adrenaline-driven zombies! Even more unfortunate is the fact that West runs into Ash, The Chosen One, who has a well-earned disdain for the undead!”
Army of Darkness Vs. Re-Animator #1 will feature four different covers shipping in approximately equal increments, by Greene, Nick Bradshaw, J.G. Jones, and Gabrielle Dell’Otto, as well as a “Super-Rare” 1-25 cover by Bradshaw featuring an “homage” to classic slasher monster films!
Dynamite promises future covers by Esad Ribic, Adam Hughes, Billy Tan, John Romita Jr., John Romita Sr., and more.
The publisher has given Newsarama a preview of all four of the main covers. Look for more information on this project in the coming weeks.
