UPDATED: ‘The Hitcher’ Writer Has a ‘Stranger Call’

Variety confirms both scoops this evening: While sifting through a scoop (director revealed here) regarding Platinum Dunes and Rogue Pictures’ upcoming The Hitcher remake, we stumbled across another whopper! We discovered that Jake Wade Walls, who is writing When a Stranger Calls for Sony Screen Gems, will be writing this remake of the classic story. In the original, which starred Rutger Hauer and Jennifer Jason Leigh, a young man transporting a car to another state is stalked along the road by a cunning and relentless serial killer who eventually frames the driver for a string of murders. Chased by police and shadowed by the killer, the driver’s only help comes from a truck stop waitress. Commercial director Dave Meyers will be helming the pic, Variety confirms.
