Don Mancini Teams With Marc Cherry for ‘Kill/Switch’!

If you don’t know who Marc Cherry is, then you haven’t been paying much attention to Hollywood- he’s the mad genius behind one of the most popular shows on television, Desperate Housewives. In fact, he’s one of the most sought after people in Hollywood today, and he’s teaming up with our favorite horror nut, Don Mancini (creator of Child’s Play), to bring us a new show entitled Kill/Switch for ABC! Read on for the skinny…
Marc Cherry is working with “Chucky” creator Don Mancini to develop an hourlong suspense drama for ABC.

In his first development foray since “Desperate Housewives,” Cherry will join Mancini as exec producer of the Touchstone Television project, dubbed “Kill/Switch.” Mancini will write the pilot, with Cherry supervising.

Alphabet has given a script commitment to the project.

“It’s a twist on the murder mystery format that also has some humor in it,” said Mancini, who added that he came up with the idea for the show about five months ago.

As a neophyte in TV — save for a single episode of “Tales From the Crypt” he wrote and directed in 1989 — Mancini decided to approach Cherry, whom he’s known socially for the past few years.

“I thought it was something Marc would respond to, and he did,” Mancini said.

Cherry has already given notes on the pitch, and after Mancini writes the pilot, “Marc will be the first person I give it to,” Mancini said.

Touchstone and Mancini are staying mum on the details of “Kill/Switch,” but others said the project may feature a lead female character who’s dead.

“There is a supernatural element,” Mancini said, without elaborating on plot details. Scribe added there would be some “tonal similarities” to Cherry’s work on “Housewives” and that while episodes will be self-contained, “There is a kind of overarching thematic thread that will draw you through the season.”

Mancini created the Chucky the doll character at the heart of the “Child’s Play” franchise, writing all of the movies and helming the last pic, “Seed of Chucky.”

Cherry has been mulling a “Desperate Housewives” spinoff dubbed “Vicious Cheerleaders,” but those plans have been put on hold for now.
