Variety reports:

“Arrested Development” star Will Arnett will topline New Line’s comedy “Jeff the Demon,” with “Da Ali G Show” writer-director James Bobin helming.

“Jeff the Demon,” penned by scribes Tom Scharpling and Joe Ventura, was set up last spring with producers Scot Armstrong and Radar Pictures (Daily Variety, April 12) as the first pic developed by Armstrong through his production company American Work, which has a first-look deal with Radar for low to modestly budgeted comedies.

“Jeff the Demon” centers on a pair of high school losers who find a book that allows them to summon a power from the netherworld. The demon, Jeff, helps them win every battle and right every wrong in their lives, but they quickly find that further problems ensue.

Armstrong and Radar’s Joe Rosenberg and Ted Field are producing.

New Line’s Kent Alterman, Radar’s Davida Heller and American Work’s Ravi Nandan oversee the project.

“Jeff the Demon” marks the second recent New Line comedy deal for Arnett, who’s signed to star in “We’re the Millers.”

Arnett’s completed work in Sony’s “RV” alongside Robin Williams and Carsey-Werner’s “You Are Going to Prison.” He’s attached to “Dad Can’t Lose” and “Get ‘Em Wet” for Paramount and “Most Likely to Succeed” for Universal.
