Archlight/Weinstein Co. Seek Aussie Horror
Gary Hamilton’s international sales shingle Arclight has appointed Dean O’Flaherty to scout for Aussie films out of Melbourne- their first find, Storm Warning, a A$4.2 million ($3.15 million) horror pic about a couple stranded in a mangrove swamp to be directed by Jamie Blanks (Urban Legends). O’Flaherty told Daily Variety that following the company’s success with Wolf Creek, which was acquired by the Weinstein Co. and has reaped an impressive $4.2 million at the Oz B.O., Arclight and its affiliated genre shingle Darclight want to ramp up the acquisition of Aussie pics. “There’s some stunning stuff around. We’re looking at two to three films a year,” he said.
