Paramount Pictures’ new comedy Failure to Launch was the lead dog over a pair of remakes this three-day weekend, with estimated gross domestic boxoffice receipts of $24.6 million. Buena Vista’s The Shaggy Dog was No. 2 in the boxoffice sled-pulling contest with about $16 million, followed by Fox Searchlight’s The Hills Have Eyes at No. 3 with about $15.5 million. Even though ‘Hills’ opened at #3, this is still a major victory for the horror genre as the film averaged an astounding $5,916 per screen. Bring on Universal’s Slither!!
