With the recent rash of child pornography charges across the country, I really though that Lionsgate might actually pull the plug on Hard Candy, which hits theaters across the country next Friday. Instead, they did exactly what I thought they should do– use the film as a chance to build awareness of the threat and give the pedophiles something to fear. Today Lionsgate started a campaign called “Wear Red” (website). Wear Red is a movement for online empowerment and awareness, inspired by the film ‘Hard Candy’ and its protagonist’s red hoody. Wear a red hoody to stand up for online safety and against internet violence! David Slade’s film is the tale of an unwise cat-and-mouse romance between a teenage girl and an older man that begins on the Internet.
