Afterdark Horrorfest Films Revealed to B-D!!

Last night the big announcement was made that Lionsgate would be teaming up with Freestyle Releasing in future ventures (more details here), which means they are also going to be sticking some films into the After Dark Horrorfest, which will be eight different movies playing in various cities for one weekend only (November 17th). Today we scored the films that will be playing (subject to change) along with the cities they’ll be playing in. Read on for details.

Penny Dreadful
Young Penny (Miner) goes on a retreat with her psychologist (Rogers); the intention is to help her overcome her phobia, an intense fear of cars. Unexpected events find her in a nightmarish situation where her worst fears come true.

The Unrest
After a brutal death in the gross anatomy lab, first year medical student Alison Blanchard must discover the truth behind her mysterious cadaver – whose spirit she’s certain is in a state of unrest. When her lab partners start dying one-by-one, Alison must face her own mortality before it’s too late.

The film centers on a young woman, played by Doillon, who leads a disturbingly sheltered existence at the hand of her controlling psychiatrist (Rea). A nosey reporter (Sevigny), suspicious of the doctor’s motives, gets involved, leading to her witnessing a homicide. Full Synopsis: Sevigny plays a driven investigative reporter who probes a renowned yet controversial psychiatrist (Stephen Rea). Her investigation soon discovers Rea’s disturbing relationship with one of his former patients Angelique (Doillon), while a new romance blossoms between Angelique and a medical intern. After witnessing a brutal murder, Sevigny’s investigation brings her closer to the beautiful and enigmatic Angelique. As dark and violent secrets are revealed, Sevigny’s world begins spiraling out of control and she begins to question not only who she is but what her true relationship is with Angelique.

The Gravedancers (review)
The film is about three friends who desecrate the graves of three very unforgiving ghosts.

Wicked Little Thing (The Children?)
Recently widowed Karen Tunny and her two daughters, Sarah and Emma, move to a remote mountain home which Karen has inherited from the family of her late husband. However, she is unaware that the home is situated near an old mine, the site of an early 20th century tragedy in which many children were buried alive…

Dark Ride
Nearly a decade after two young girls are brutally murdered, the monstrous killer, Jonah, escapes from a mental institution and returns to his familiar killing ground, the theme park attraction “Dark Ride.” His unfortunate victims this time are a group of college kids on a road trip that inevitably leads them to the Dark Ride where their night of youthful fun becomes a nightmare. The killer, who is mimicking the sets within the attraction, makes sure this is a “ride” audiences will never forget.

Infection (review) (Kansen; Japan)
‘Kansen’ means Infection and the story revolves around a strange little hospital with weird patients and even weirder staff. Part 1 of 6 J-Horror Films. Death is just a breath away in this horror film from Japan that is set in a horrifying hospital whose overworked staff is busy covering up their own malpractice until one patient exhibits gruesome, and deadly, symptoms – and then disappears.

Reincarnation (Rinne; Japan)
Rinne deals with the topic of reincarnation.

The Abandoned (Spain)
An American film producer named Marie returns to her homeland, Russia, where her mother’s dead body has been found under bizarre circumstances. She never knew her, having been adopted and brought to America as a baby.
