[TV] AMC Has No Plan To End “The Walking Dead” (Even Though I’ve Ended It Already…)

Even though I’ve read nearly all the comics (I’m a bit behind), I feel like I’m the sole hater of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” television series. It’s frustrating that people aren’t seeing what I’m seeing, but I also respect that many of you guys love it. So, while I’d love to see AMC take the show in a new direction, or even reboot it the right way, the cabler promises that there’s no end in sight for the zombie series (unless you count deleting the series from your DVR).

AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan said Wednesday that “Breaking Bad,” which ends its run next year, and “Mad Men,” which ends the year after that, are a couple of the best shows in the history of television, and that he sees no end in sight to “The Walking Dead,” says THR.

“The Walking Dead” is in just its third season and has a lot more to go.

We hope that zombies live forever, and we’ve just begun to find out what the post-apocalyptic world is like,” said Sapan, “so that we’ll be sitting here at the Barclays conference in 2022 discussing the fact that “Walking Dead” is not over … at that point, I think any one of the companies will have replaced the United States government and we’ll be in a complete free enterprise world in which there are no nations.

I’ve grown incredibly frustrated with AMC’s treatment of the series, and their inability to openly acknowledge the criticism. Because of the strong ratings, they continue to rub it in our noses that they know what’s best. This doesn’t mean the show has to be bad, in fact, eventually people will catch on. Much like each season before, I continue to keep faith alive that they’ll right the ship and get things on the correct course – only this time they have to convince me to start watching again… READ MORE

[TV] Netflix Developing More “Hemlock Grove”

I wasn’t a huge fan of Netflix’s “Hemlock Grove,” in fact, I never finished the first season. As an obsessive completist, this is very telling. Still, the high-priced Netflix only series must have performed well enough to warrant a second season, so says THR.

The online mag conducted a lengthy interview with Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos, who speaks of potential plans for a second offering of “Hemlock Grove.”

We’re hearing the pitches for the second season with plotlines and storylines now,” he revealed.

He also speaks on the negative reactions, especially from the genre crowd: ““Hemlock” is much more polarizing; you either love it or hate it. The crossover for the people who love the show was “American Horror Story,” not T”he Vampire Diaries.” It was incredibly popular in the Nordics because of the popularity of the Skarsgards [Bill Skarsgard stars] and in Latin America, where the horror genre is very big.

The other thing I look at is the tween segment,” he adds. ““Hemlock Grove is horror, but it’s not really CW horror; it’s much more adult than that. So I think that we’d like to look at some series in that category.

He nails my exact problem with the series: it’s confused. It clearly doesn’t want to be CW horror, but it also dabbles in it. And it also wants to be “adult,” but it’s not sexy nor violent enough. I’d make a plea with him that the second season needs to clearly define what it is…

Did you guys finish the first season? Thoughts? READ MORE

Metallica ‘Through The Never’ Trailer And Poster Released

A trailer and poster for the upcoming Nimrod Antal (Predators, Kontroll) directed Metallica 3D IMAX film Through The Never has been released and I have absolutely no idea what’s going on. However, I can say that I’m very much intrigued and that it looks awesome! Apocalyptic riots, seriously epic production value, and a concert that looks amazing all add up to a film that basically has my money.

The synopsis for the film reads, “As the band performs its most iconic songs for thousands of their fans in a never-before-seen performance created exclusively for the film, Trip is dispatched outside the arena to meet a disabled delivery truck and recover a mysterious item being transported to the show. But the seemingly simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure when his car is hit by an out-of-control driver. Trip, dazed and bruised, climbs out of his van only to find himself pitched in the middle of a tense standoff between angry protesters and charging riot police. In the ensuing mayhem, a vicious masked horseman sets his murderous eye on Trip while delivering indiscriminate deathblows to rioters and cops alike. Fleeing through the desolate, post-apocalyptic urban streetscape, Trip has only his wits to protect him as he attempts to deliver the band’s precious cargo and avoid becoming the horseman’s next victim.

The film is set to be released in 300 IMAX 3D theaters on September 27th, 2013 and will expand into more theaters on October 4th, 2013. Head on below for the trailer and poster. READ MORE

Incredibly Creepy International Poster For ‘The Conjuring’

I wasn’t a huge fan of Warner Bros. first poster for The Conjuring – you know, the tree with a noose. It’s relevant and all, but it in no way demands your attention.

This new UK poster, for example, screams for you to look. Not to mention it carries a very James Wan-ish atmosphere (obviously the puppet helps with that).

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively) were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Guaranteed to be the horror film of summer, it hits theaters July 19, and August 2 in the UK. READ MORE

The first film will shoot in York, the second will take the characters to London and Europe and the third film will see them in the US and Russia.

Producer Steve Piper at Coffee Films is promising a “fresh approach to the zombie genre for the web generation combining black comedy, transmedia, regular and found footage.

‘God Is Dead’ According To Jonathan Hickman

It may be a little early to speculate on this, but I think it’s safe to say that Jonathan Hickman will be in the runnings for creator of the year. He’s killing it on both of his “Avengers” titles, his new series “East of West” is a hit, and Bleeding Cool has just announced that he has yet another original series called “God is Dead” from Avatar Press. Taking a page from Nietzsche, the books follows the journey of God as he returns to a modern day Earth to deal with all the crap that has gone down in his absence. Unfortunately, he’s got to deal with the people who don’t want him back. READ MORE

New Trailer For ‘Maniac’ Masterfully Captures The Film’s Tone

I saw Franck Khalfoun’s Maniac last weekend. And I almost agree with Mr. Disgusting that it’s a masterpiece. I say “almost” because there’s just a few things here and there that kept me from pure elation – but I’d definitely give it at least an 8/10 (Brad gave it a 9/10 in his review). It’s horror’s Drive, stylish moody and addictive. And I have a feeling I’ll like it even more a second time.

Definitely check this out when it opens in select theaters, iTunes and on VOD platforms June 21. I know I’ll be seeing it again. Meanwhile, this trailer is pretty much nails the tone and may be the best promo reel we’ve yet seen for the film.

In the remake, “Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank (Wood) is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

A director I’ve been championing for years here on Bloody Disgusting is Ruairi Robinson, who took Cannes by storm with the world premiere of his first ever feature, The Last Days on Mars, starring Liev Schreiber (Scream 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) alongside Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Rushmore), Romola Garai (One Day, Atonement), Elias Koteas (Shutter Island, Zodiac), Tom Cullen (Weekend), Goran Kostic (In the Land of Blood and Honey, Taken), and Johnny Harris (Snow White and the Huntsman).

The Last Days on Mars, which was previously titled The Animators, “follows the story of an astronaut crew on Mars on the verge of a major breakthrough, having collected rock specimens that reveal microscopic evidence of life. In their last hours on the planet, two astronauts go back to a cavernous valley on the surface of Mars to collect further evidence for their discovery, but a routine excavation turns deadly when one of them falls to his death and his body is taken as a host and re-animated by the very life form they sought to discover.
