[BD Review] ‘The Island’ Has Good Set Pieces But is Never Thrilling

Reviewed by Patrick Cooper From 1974 to 1979, author Peter Benchley pulled off a hat trick of impressive seafaring bestsellers. Each book was adapted for the big screen one year after publication – with mixed results. There’s Jaws, of course, then The Deep, which also did well at the box-office thanks in part to Jacqueline... [BD Review] ‘Slaughter Tales’ Is Deliberately Awful And Not In A Good Way

Reviewed by Patrick Cooper Slaughter Tales is a self-aware love letter to the bygone SOV era that’s been making sort of a comeback this year thanks to distributors like Intervision. [BD Review] ‘The Collection’ Is A Bigger And Sillier Sequel That Still Manages To Be Fun

While I didn’t fall in love with The Collection, there’s something admirable about its ambition to not be more of the same. Its increased scope and willingness to stray from the beats of its predecessor, The Collector, indicate that co-writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (the latter of whom also directed) have an actual creative... [BD Review] Stare into the Abyss of Peter Billingsley’s Rosy Cheeks in ‘Death Valley’

Review by Patrick Cooper Director Dick Richards only helmed seven movies during his career. Not a lot, but he managed to cover a lot of genre territory along the way. Wedged in between a war epic and a family melodrama is 1982’s obscure horror-thriller Death Valley. The film follows Billy, a young city boy on... Read More Read More

I watched this because everybody made such a big deal about the ending and the big shocking twist. Truth is, any horror fan should have seen the ending coming a mile away. This movie borrows heavily from Rosemary's Baby, The Wicker Man, and even Angel Heart. Not a bad flick though, and good for a once-view. …READ MORE

Reeker is exactly the type of film The Cabin in the Woods was making fun of. All of the archetypes are their, you can spot the fool, the whore, the athlete, the virgin and the scholar from the moment they're on screen which makes for a very predictable slasher. The film started off well with a funny …READ MORE
