A Haunted House 2
The sequel to A Haunted House.
The sequel to A Haunted House.
Marlon Wayans’ A Haunted House, which spoofed Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside, made $40 Million at the US Box Office and seems to be doing fairly well on home video. So, needless to say, Open Road’s A Haunted House 2 is still right on track. In fact, they now have a release date. March 28, 2014. I didn’t care for the first film, so here’s hoping for some improvement.
We don’t know much about the sequel yet, but I spoke with Wayans last week and he confirmed what Essence Atkins will indeed be returning, seeing as she’s this franchise’s “Katie.”
A Haunted House 2 will be financed and produced by IM Global’s genre label Octane and will shoot this summer. READ MORE
Marlon Wayans’ A Haunted House, which spoofed Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside, made $40 Million at the US Box Office and is currently available as a Blu-ray Combo Pack with UltraViolet, on DVD and On Demand. With that in mind I recently hopped on the phone with star and co-writer Marlon Wayans to discuss his process towards the spoof genre along with the upcoming A Haunted House 2, which shoots this summer.
“When a young couple moves in to their dream place, they soon discover they’re not alone. Now, Malcolm will go to hilarious extremes – including hiring a priest, a psychic, and a team of modern-day Ghostbusters to get his place and his sex life back to normal.” Co-starring Essence Atkins (“Smart Guy”), Nick Swardson (Just Go with It) and David Koechner (Anchorman), the film is demonically good fun that critics are calling “the funniest scary movie about scary movies ever!” (Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV).

Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) play a couple about to open a new chapter in their relationship when they decide to move in together. Malcolm, of course, decides to turn a camera on and record his new lifestyle with his significant other. However, it is Kisha who seems to feel the presence of something supernatural as soon as she steps foot in the new house.
A Haunted House, written by Rick Alvarez and Marlon Wayans, directed by newcomer Michael Tiddes, makes no attempts to be an original entry in an otherwise dead spoof genre. It’s full of jokes only a failed stand-up comedian could deliver while performing at a lower-end buffet in Vegas. READ MORE
Marlon Wayans’ A Haunted House, which spoofed Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside, made $40 Million at the US Box Office and hits home video on April 23rd. I would assume the production budget on these films is fairly low, since Variety is reporting that Open Road Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to A Haunted House 2.
Of course Wayans will be starring again, and he’s co-writing the script as well. No word on which (if any) of the original’s cast will be returning.
The film will be financed and produced by IM Global’s genre label Octane. A Haunted House 2 will shoot this summer and be released in the winter, one would think in the January slot occupied by the first installment.
Go beyond the supernatural in A Haunted House, the hilarious comedy starring Marlon Wayans (White Chicks, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Cedric the Entertainer (Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Ice Age) that pokes no-holds-barred fun at our deepest fears. A Haunted House will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack with UltraViolet, on DVD and On Demand on April 23, 2013 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Also available on Digital Download beginning April 9, 2013.

In an outrageous send up of the Paranormal Activity movies, The Devil Inside and other “found footage” movies, A Haunted House features young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) who have just moved in to their dream house. As they settle in, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, it’s Malcolm’s girlfriend who is possessed by a demon. Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghostbusters to rid her of this unwelcome intruder, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his relationship… or, more importantly, his sex life.
Now in theaters everywhere from Open Road is Marlon Wayans’ A Haunted House, which is destined to be the #1 movie at the boxoffice, despite a rash of negative reviews. The promotional materials have been spoofing various other horror flicks, even though Haunted Housesolely makes fun of Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside. Next up, the final two posters, which spoof Texas Chainsaw 3D and The Possession. Make sure to write your own reviews to tell all of Bloody what YOU thought!

It was recently announced that Open Road Films had acquired Michael Tiddes’ A Haunted House, co-written by and starring Marlon Wayans. This morning the official trailer hit and I was actually a bit impressed. While the first Scary Movie (a hilarious movie) was a direct spoof of Scream, the sequels trailed off into pop culture land (a place that I never want to visit). With A Haunted House, Wayans and co. appear to do a direct spoof of Paranormal Activity (while also referencing other Found Footage films like Devil Inside), which excites me a great bit. IMO, the best spoof comedies come when the writer makes jokes about observations he/she has about the subject, not by injecting a bunch of pop culture references into a non-existant plot. I guess you could say that I’m actually looking forward to this?
