Set for a 2010 debut, Abattoir chronicles real estate agent Richard Ashwalt, assigned the impossible task of cleaning up after a brutal massacre takes place at a mansion. As he cleans the blood-soaked grounds, a twisted old man journeys to the house with a sinister and terrifying purpose, and Richard is drawn into a web of shadows, murders and massacres that will shatter him to his very core…and make him run for his life.
I caught up with Darren Bousman last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood). He’s had a busy year what with The Devil’s Carnival, Mother’s Day and the upcominng release of The Barrens. So he’s probably taking a little break pretty soon – but not until after The Devil’s Carnival 2.
He told us, “We’re starting pre-production right now. It takes place in Heaven and it’s a lot more dark and f*cked up than the first one that takes place in Hell. So Heaven is a lot darker than Hell in our case. Everyone [from the original] is back and we have a whole new cast of misfits as well.”
Is he keeping up the breakneck pace after that? “No. I’m taking a break. I’m ready to die.” After the break? “The only thing I can talk about is Abattoir. I had a comic book series called ‘Abattoir’ and I’m writing the script [for the film] right now. That’s in the very early stages of pre-production. That would probably be my next movie.”
This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.
One of the most overlooked horror offerings of the past year (in my humble opinion) has definitely been Darren Lynn Bousmann’s (“SAW 2″, “REPO THE GENETIC OPERA”, “MOTHER’S DAY”) brainchild project from Radical Comics, “ABATTOIR”. The 6 issue mini-series is now well into the duration of its’ run as the publisher is gearing up to release the fourth issue on April 20th, and beyond the break you can check out a violent 7 page preview and get all the details. Read on for the skinny…
Just in time for everyone’s Halloween celebrations Radical Publishing has teamed up with popular horror director Darren Lynn Bousman (“SAW 2″, “REPO THE GENETIC OPERA”) for an all new horror mini-series entitled ‘ABATTOIR’! The series is set to begin this Wednesday, but if you make the jump you can check out a 6 page preview of the first issue. Read on for the skinny!
Straight from Comic-con that Darren Bousman is going to develop the comic Abattoir for Radical publishing which is a prequel to the film of the same name. The story is about a man sent to clean a house after a horrendous massacre, but things go terribly awry. This series looks like it will be pretty fun. More info after the break.
