Here’s ED-209 From The New ‘RoboCop’!

MGM’s RoboCop is gearing up for production and has launched a new website for OmniCorp, the manufacturer in charge of supplying urban and military weapons. And right there on the front page is a pic of the new ED-209! There’s also some cool video that reminds me of the satirical commercials from the original 1987 film, even if it lacks their humorous bite.

Per OmniCorp, “For a half-century, these words have set the framework upon which OmniCorp has aimed to build a brighter world. We don’t do passive technology. At OmniCorp, our solutions generate a beacon of safety that we shine upon on the dangers of the day. No matter the obstacle – political, cultural, philosophical – we pursue our convictions around the globe to secure peace of mind at home. And when this requires bold new direction, we never allow doubt to shrink our duty. When your quality of life is in the balance, our leadership team will tip the scales. Our products have elevated your lives. Our people have inspired your future. Our passion will always be at your side.

Jose Padilha is directing the remake, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Laurie is joining quite the cast. Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) is the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates RoboCop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation. Samuel Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world. Cornish has been offered the role of his wife who thinks she is a widow Hugh Laurie plays the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes RoboCop and ED-209.

RoboCop starts shooting soon and has a tentative release date of August 9, 2013. Head inside for a better look at ED-209! READ MORE

Hugh Laurie To Diagnose ‘RoboCop’ With Lupus

Casting continues (and then some) for MGM’s RoboCop as Hugh Laurie (pictured above; “House”) has now been set to play one of the film’s primary villains.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Laurie will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop.“. In theory I’m sort of against this remake – but I have to admit the cast is impressive and I think Laurie could really, really shine in this role. My interest just shot up a notch.

‘Sucker Punch’ Chick Becomes Wife Of ‘RoboCop’

With an August 9, 2013 date already locked, MGM is moving quickly on its long-gestured RoboCop remake.

Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch, Limitless, The Girl, The Seven Psychopaths) has been offered the female lead in the Jose Padilha-directed reboot of the Paul Verhoeven-directed original, reports Deadline.

“The Killing”‘s Joel Kinnaman has been set to play the title character, a cop who, near death, is turned into an indestructible crime-fighting force, and then begins to remember his past life. Cornish has been offered the role of his wife, who thinks she is a widow. Samuel L. Jackson is also reportedly in talks to join the cast as well.

Limitless (The Dark Fields)

Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro star in Limitless, a paranoia-fueled action thriller about an unpublished writer whose life is transformed by a top-secret smart drug that allows him to use 100% of his brain and become a perfect version of himself. His enhanced abilities soon attract shadowy forces that threaten his new life in this darkly comic and provocative film.

The thriller is said to be in the vein of Fight Club and The Game.

‘Alien’: Scott Wants Noomi Repace, Fox Wants Charlize Theron

While many of the Alien prequel rumors have been vanquished, Vulture (NY Mag) has a fresh one that I’m not all too happy about. The site is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox is working overtime to re-jigger its planned prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien to potentially sign on Charlize Theron in the leading role. Scott has other plans as Vulture reports that he’s adamant that the little-known Scandinavian actress Noomi Rapace — best known, to the extent that she’s known at all, for playing Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish-language Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy — get the part of the Alien prequel’s main character, Elizabeth Shaw. I agree. I Strongly agree. Charlize Theron? Only a studio exec would throw something like that out there….

Twentieth Century Fox Refutes Delayed ‘Alien’ Report

Website Script Flags is now 0 for 2 on their Alien news as Twentieth Century Fox is refuting the site’s claim that the Ridley Scott-directed prequels have been delayed. Although, it should be noted that the studio is playing a game of semantics as The Playlist discovered that the projects have yet to be greenlit. “According to representatives we spoke with at Fox, there is “no truth” to those reports. Additionally, while development is continuing, we’ve been told the “Alien” prequel has not yet been greenlit. So to rephrase, a movie that hasn’t been officially announced or given the go ahead, can’t really be delayed.” SEMANTICS; even though there is a distinct difference between the two claims. I guess the good news is that there’s indeed progress, it’s just a matter of getting everyone on the same page. Early reports claimed Scott and the studio were feuding over the budget, while a more recent report indicated the studio LOVED “Lost” screenwriter Damon Lindelhof’s script (story here).

Twentieth Century Fox Delays ‘Alien’ Prequels

Script Flags is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox has delayed production on Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels, now aiming for a 2013 & 2014 release. No other details are available, although there were rumblings of colliding egos and budget debates. Soon after, things appeared to be on fast-track when Damon Lindelof’s screenplay knocked the studio off their chair, and Noomi Rapace and Olivia Wilde became frontrunners for the new strong female lead. Who knows what’s going on. The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

The Hunt Continues for ‘Alien’ Female Lead

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox and director Ridley Scott have just about completed meetings with actresses to find the Ripley-esque heroine for the 3D Alien prequel. They claim that Scott’s favorite (mine too) is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace. The other names being whispered range from Carey Mulligan (Public Enemies) to Abbie Cornish (The Dark Fields, Sucker Punch), Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and the freshly added Tron: Legacy star Olivia Wilde. Who would you guys pick? Is there an actress they’re totally missing out on? The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking ’79 film that Scott directed.
