[TV] Emma Booth To Play Mrs. Frankenstein In “Gothica”

Deadline is reporting that ABC’s gothic soap “Gothica” has cast Emma Booth (pictured above; Blood Creek) as Victor Frankenstein’s (Tom Ellis) wife Madeline Usher in this series that is “set in the present day, which weaves together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray.

As a reminder, “In this incarnation of the story Frankenstein runs a hospital that also does biotech research and believes that he may have a way to bring his recently deceased daughter back to life. Gray is a wealthy playboy. Booth joins the previously cast Janet Montgomery, Chris Egan, and Tom Ellis.

The show “centers on Grace Van Helsing (Montgomery), a Pulitzer prize winning journalist from New York who takes over her family’s hometown newspaper. Dorian Gray (Chris Egan) provides her with the $20 million she needs to retain control of the paper, and she was romantically involved with Victor Frankenstein (Tom Ellis) years ago. ” ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co. are producing the pilot written by Matt Lopez.

[TV] Janet Montgomery Cast As The Lead In ABC’s “Gothica”, I Learn That ABC’s “Gothica” Exists

Deadline is reporting that ABC’s gothic soap “Gothica” has finally cast its lead. Janet Montgomery (pictured above; The Hills Run Red, Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead) will be playing Grace Van Helsing in this INSANE sounding series. To be fair, she survived a Declan O’Brien movie, so she can probably survive anything (I kid, I kid). But seriously, did you know there was a show “set in the present day, which weaves together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray.

It gets better, “In this incarnation of the story Frankenstein runs a hospital that also does biotech research and believes that he may have a way to bring his recently deceased daughter back to life. Gray is a wealthy playboy.

Anyway, she joins the previously cast Chris Egan (Resident Evil: Extinction), who will be playing Dorian Grey, as well as Tom Ellis who is playing Victor Frankenstein.

Academy Awards TV Promo Jokes On ‘Psycho’

The Academy Awards are coming, and frankly, we don’t give a shit. The pretentious garbage of an awards ceremony neglects genre films, treating them like they can’t be art in the eyes of snot-nosed academy members. And each year they try and play to us fans, acting like they give a shit. They don’t, let’s get that straight right now.

ABC released the following promo for this year’s Oscars, which air February 24th. It features host Seth MacFarlane staying at the Bates Motel where Norman is making a ruckus. It’s an obvious reference to the new series, “Bates Motel,” premiering this spring on A&E.

Keep it down. I have a meeting in four hours,” MacFarlane jokes as Janet Leigh screams in terror. READ MORE

[TV] What The Heck Is “Weird Desk” Gonna Be Like?

With “Fringe” almost gone (not to mention the fact that people who were born on the day the first “X-Files” premiered being eligible to vote), it’s about time for a new hour long paranormal drama. Enter “Weird Desk”. ABC has ordered 13 episodes of it and will premiere the show next summer, per Variety.

The show, from Canadian production company, Shaftesbury Films, centers on a clandestine organization that handles mysterious other-worldly cases rerouted from the CIA and National Security Agency. The two lead characters – who run the Weird Desk – are named Morgan and Rosetta (though we don’t yet know who will be playing them). The show is written by Carl Binder (“Stargate”) and David Titcher (“The Librarian”).

I’m not sure about the show’s tone, though. While a network “paranormal drama” sounds like it should be on the freaky, serious side – that title indicates that it might be on the freaky, silly side (a la “Eureka”, which is not the type of show ABC is in the business of distributing). Here’s betting there will be a title change before it airs.

TV: ABC Moves Into “666 Park Avenue” On September 30th

We knew that ABC’s sexy genre thriller “666 Park Avenue”, which will air at 10:00 PM on Sundays. And now we know which Sunday it starts – September 30th. That’s when we’ll find out if this show has some true horror bona-fides (not likely) or is full of hot air (likely). I’m not hating – I’m just doing the math on the amount of decent network shows these days (their quality seems to be dipping as cable’s quality rises).

At the ominous address of 666 Park Avenue, anything you desire can be yours. Everyone has needs, desires, and ambition. For the residents of The Drake, these will all be met, courtesy of the building’s mysterious owner, Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn). But every Faustian contract comes with a price. When Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and Henry Martin (Dave Annable), an idealistic young couple from the Midwest, are offered the opportunity to manage the historic building, they not only fall prey to the machinations of Doran and his mysterious wife, Olivia (Vanessa Williams), but unwittingly begin to experience the shadowy, supernatural forces within the building that imprison and endanger the lives of the residents inside. Sexy, seductive, and inviting, The Drake maintains a dark hold over all of its residents, tempting them through their ambitions and desires, in this chilling new drama that’s home to an epic struggle of good versus evil.

TV: ABC Talks Canceling ‘The River,’ Transitioning To Netflix

river020312 TV: ABC Talks Canceling The River, Transitioning To Netflix

Is network TV dying? We may finally be witnesses to the rise of streaming original content.

Netflix, who is already developing Eli Roth’s original series “Hemlock Grove,” and is in talks with 20th Century Fox TV about possibly picking up recently cancelled “Terra Nova,” may also be eying another freshman drama that is facing cancellation: ABC’s “The River.”

Deadline reports that the streaming giant has had conversations with “The River” producer ABC Studios about the possibility of continuing the thriller/horror series on Netflix. Sources stress that the talks are exploratory at this point in the context of a larger conversation between ABC Studios and Netflix.

From my own perspective, this is exactly what “The River” should have been in the first place. The constant commercial breaks tear us away from any tension the show builds, while having it air on prime time forces the show to veer away from any violent content.

It should also b clear that, unlike “Terra Nova,” “The River” has not been officially canceled by ABC, though that is considered a foregone conclusion. This could actually turn into a positive situation if transitioned correctly.

TV: Helena Mattsson Moves To “666 Park Avenue” After Making Babies

There are like 5 projects never seem to stop casting. “666 Park Avenue” is one of them. ABC’s supernatural-tinged drama pilot. has now added Helena Mattsson (pictured inside; Iron Man 2, Seven Psychopaths) to its roster of talent. She just recently wrapped the upcoming Babymakers. She joins the previously announced Vanessa Williams, Rachael Taylor, Dave Annabele and Terry O’Quinn.

Per Variety, “Mattsson, who will play the role of Alexis, recently appeared in the CW’s “Nikita” and also had a recurring role in “Desperate Housewives.” She will next be seen in the film “The Babymakers,” opposite Aisha Tyler and Olivia Munn.

The thriller, based on the Gabriella Pierce book series of the same name, “centers on a young couple (Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable) that accepts an offer to manage one of the most historic apartment buildings in New York City. They unwittingly begin to experience supernatural occurrences, which complicate and endanger the lives of everyone in the building.

The pilot was written by “Fringe” scribe David Wilcox. READ MORE

TV: ABC’s ‘The River’ Has “Soft” Premiere

river020312 TV: ABCs The River Has Soft Premiere

One thing about watching a new TV series is that you risk getting attached, only to have it canceled before the debut season ends. This is why I typically wait until the second season is announced to jump aboard (although I took the day one dive with “American Horror Story” and “The Walking Dead”).

THR writes that the two-hour premiere of ABC’s “The River,” which, while soft in its returns and declining every half hour, still topped last season’s comparable mid-season time slot entry, “Off The Map.”

“The River” pulled in a 2.4 among adults 18-49, with a 2.5 at 9:00 p.m. and a 2.2 at 10:00 p.m.., and gave the net its strongest showing in the time slot since the fall finale of “Dancing With the Stars.” ABC averaged a 2.4 among 18-49-ers for the night and 7.6 million viewers.

While off to a weak start, there’s still plenty of hope for the new series from Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli — but it can just as easily capsize into the abyss… READ MORE

TV: ABC Gets The Keys To “666 Park Avenue”

ParkAvenue12312 TV: ABC Gets The Keys To 666 Park Avenue

At the very least, it sounds like “666 Park Avenue” has kind of a killer premise. It’s about a young couple who move from the midwest to NYC and discover that the apartment building they’ve agreed to manage is filled with people who have made deals with the Devil.

And then you find out that ABC is working with the producers of “Gossip Girl” and “The Vampire Diaries” to bring this to you and you wonder if they might play it all for surface value.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “From Warner Bros. Television and Alloy, ’666 Park’ is based on the book series by Gabriella Pierce. Like the books, the drama centers on an innocent couple from the midwest that moves to New York and gets hired to be resident managers of a building on the Upper East Side. There, unbeknownst to the couple, the residents have all unwittingly made deals with the Devil to have their deepest needs, ambitions and desires fulfilled. David Wilcox is attached to adapt the project.

What do you think? Can this team bring us something special or will it just be a quickly fizzling soap? READ MORE

After attempting an experimental treatment to improve his eyesight, he begins to experience a strange side effect — when he goes to sleep, his id manifests itself as Hyde, a fearless, gregarious personality who takes control where Grant cannot.
