Tool Guitarist Adam Jones Posts Mysterious Image

Adam Jones, guitarist for prog-metal band Tool, has posted a mysterious image to his Instagram account. The caption for the image is simply “#soon”. The picture looks like a snippet of something much larger and includes what looks like an eye and a heavily textured cheek. There are definite style nods to Alex Grey, who did Tool’s artwork for Lateralus and 10,000 Days, leading many to speculate that this may be artwork for the long-awaited new Tool record. However, it must be stressed that nothing is confirmed.

Now Danny Carey Says That The New Tool Album WILL Come Out This Year

New Zealand’s TheRock recently spoke with Tool drummer Danny Carey about the current state of the band, including the status of a new album. Carey maintains that a new album will be released by the end of 2013, contradicting a recent statement from singer Maynard James Keenan, who claimed that there would be no new Tool record this year. Carey also comments that, “Justin [Chancellor] has been really prolific on this record…” and that 6-7 songs are being recorded by the various members.

A new album will be the followup to 2006′s 10,000 Days. READ MORE

[Editorial] From Worst To Best: Tool

Tool is by no means meant for the casual listener. Their music defies traditional songwriting, dynamically surges from crushing distortion to soft beauty, plays with time signatures, bears some of the most interesting lyrics available, and doesn’t give a damn about song length to ensure radio play. Add to this list the band’s love of the occult and teasing fans with the possibilities that their lyrics and music hide a deeper meaning. Everything combined makes Tool one of the most challenging, well-respected and fascinating bands releasing music these days.

And so I decided that my love of the band should be used to rank their discography. Having listened to each album more times than I can count, I feel very comfortable in my decisions. Note that I am only doing the four full-length albums and I’m not including the Opiate EP nor the Salival release.

This is by no means an easy task. Having been a fan of Tool for more years than I can easily count, I realize that these albums each represent a different period of my life and I have certain memories associated with each one. Still, I’ll do my best to remain objective. So, join me below to find out my “From Worst To Best” with Tool. READ MORE

Adam Jones Tweets Picture From New Tool Project

Adam Jones, guitarist of prog-rock giants Tool, recently tweeted a picture of a severed arm with TOOLBAND.COM watermarks covering the image. Upon looking at the official Tool website, it was written that this image was a production still for an upcoming “Tool Project” that is tentatively due in the fall. While no other information has been released, there are a couple of things that can be speculated upon:

1) It’s an image from a new music video, either for a track off of 10,000 Days or from the rumored new album that still has yet to enter recording.

2) It is part of the visuals that will accompany the new album, be it in the booklet or part of the marketing campaign.

What do you think readers? What do you make of this image?

ADAM JONES (TOOL) And ROBERT FRIPP (KING CRIMSON) Possibly Finishing Their Album They Started Almost 6 Years Ago?

About a month ago Tool guitarist Adam Jones met up with King Crimson guitarist/founder Robert Fripp to discuss possibly rehashing the collaborative album they had started working on a few years back. Fripp recently posted about this on his online journal and had this to say…

“A fabbo lunch with Adam covering a wide range of common interests & experiencing, among which: the possibilities of continuing our album, begun in Los Angeles some 5-6 years ago; and go out speaking together.”

Of course a project like this asks questions concerning what is going on with Tool considering there has been no info regarding a follow up to their last album “10,000 Days” as well as Maynard James Keenan setting out on his first full tour with Puscifer.

When Maynard was asked recently about all this he had this to say,”I can’t sit still, so when those guys hesitate, it takes us so long to do stuff, and it’s like a snake eating its own tail situation, ’cause then I get distracted and I go off and do a thing, and then I get blamed for not being around to do the (Tool) thing,” he said. “But nothing was getting done when I was standing there, so I got bored and left. It’s just an endless cycle.” READ MORE
