Yesterday we reported that the production house responsible for the [REC] franchise is developing the new horror project Summer Camp to shoot in 2013. They debuted the poster today at the American Film Market in Santa Monica.

While there are no details just yet, Sleep Tight screenwriter Alberto Marini will be making his directorial debut on the film and co-wrote the screenplay.

The plot is under wraps but Marini commented to Variety, “There’s a game common to the majority of kids around the world, both in and out of summer camps: “Tag, you are it”…. The fun of the game is that the roles are constantly changing: The pursuer becomes the pursued, the cat becomes the mouse.” He added, “We wanted to capture this idea in a horror-filled, adrenaline-pumped movie…. A film in which you’re never sure who your friends or who your enemies are, a game you’d never wish to be part of and where, sometimes, in order to escape the only option is to attack.” Jaume Balaguero (Sleep Tight, [REC], [REC]2) executive produces.

Eventually, however, it’s revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message… and that the real source of horror isn’t particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home.

[AFM '12] Paul W.S. Anderson Shoots Volcano Epic ‘Pompeii’ In April, What Does This Mean For ‘Resident Evil 6′?

Making an appearance at the American Film Market in Santa Monica this morning were some promotional materials for Pompeii, the new epic from Paul W.S.Anderson (Resident Evil 5, Event Horizon) that details the burying of that ancient village by a Volcano.

You may remember a few years back when it was speculated that Anderson might indeed skip Resident Evil 5, after all Pompeii was scheduled to come out in the spring of 2012 and RE5 for September of 2012. Obviously, only one of those films made their date. And while Retribution’s global take of $217,719,678M is a bit lower than Afterlife’s $296,221,663M – it’s by no means a flop. And Anderson has said that he is committed to finishing his “new trilogy” within the franchise.

What do you think? Can Anderson pull of both Pompeii and RE6? Do you want him to? Head inside for the synopsis! READ MORE

[AFM '12] Propel Into The Mind Of Dark Sky’s ‘Frankenstein’s Army’!!

Dark Sky Films have released the first two official stills from Dutch director Richard Raaphorst’s eagerly-anticipated World War II horror/fantasy, Frankenstein’s Army.

The first still features “Propellerhead”, a hulking Nazi automaton that uses its spinning rotors to slice a bloody swath through the film’s terrified, lost Russian battalion. The second grisly official still features the power-hungry Doctor Frankenstein (Hellboy’s Karel Roden) himself, as he dissects an unwilling subject!

‘Frankenstein’s Army’ takes place toward the end of World War II, as Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany and stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Viktor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein’s work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades – a desperate Hitler’s last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

It stars Karel Roden (Hellboy), Alexander Mercury (The Golden Compass), Joshua Sasse (The Big I Am), Luke Newberry (The Heart of Me), Andrei Zayats (X-Men: First Class), Mark Stevenson (The Last Horror Movie), Hon Ping Tang (The Fifth Element), Cristina Catalina (Eastern Promises), Robert Gwylim (Escape from Sobibor), and Jan De Lukovicz.
