Tom Arnold Joins Indie Thriller ‘The Curse of Downers Grove’

Tom Arnold has joined indie thriller The Curse of Downers Grove opposite Lucas Till, Aimee Teegarden, Kevin Zegers, Penelope Mitchell, Bella Heathcote and Zane Holtz.

“Downers” centers on Chrissie Swanson, a paranoid high school senior for whom graduating has become a matter of life or death. Apparently, he’s who’s worried about an apparent curse that takes the life of one student every year at the school.

Arnold once touched our genre with a cameo in Freddy’s Dead.

[News Bites] “The Sixth Gun”; “Lucas Stand”; ‘The Curse of Downer’s Grove’; ‘The Remaining’

NBC’s adaptation of “The Sixth Gun” graphic novels has found its lead. Deadline reports that The Ruins and No One LivesLaura Ramsey, pictured left, will star in the Carlton Cuse-produced pilot. Written by Ryan Condal, directed by Jeffrey Reiner and produced by Uni TV, ““The Sixth Gun” is a supernatural Western which follows the story of six mythical guns, each with its own other-worldly powers. When the Sixth Gun, the most powerful and dangerous of the group, resurfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, a farmer’s daughter named Becky Montcrief (Ramsey), dark forces reawaken. Vile men, long thought dead, set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing Becky.

They also report that “Sons of Anarchy” creator/showrunner Kurt Sutter has teamed with former “Hell on Wheels” showrunner John Shiban to develop “Lucas Stand,” a dark action/horror drama series for FX. Based on an idea by Sutter, “Lucas Stand” features both episodic and serialized elements. “It follows the salvation quest of a damaged former special ops soldier, who has been chosen to traverse time and place to hunt down and kill Hell’s law-breaking demons.

Zane Holtz (Vampires Suck) has been cast alongside Lucas Till, Aimee Teegarden, Kevin Zegers, Penelope Mitchell, and Bella Heathcote in The Curse of Downer’s Grove. Directed by Derek Martini from a screenplay by Bret Easton Ellis, “The story centers on a paranoid high school senior who’s worried about an apparent curse that takes the life of one student every year at the school.”

From director Casey La Scala, the cast has filled for The Remaining, about a group of friends who scramble to survive a Rapture-like phenomena. Johnny Pacar will star alongside Judd Lormand, Shaun Sipos, Italia Ricci, Bryan Dechart, Defecio Stoglin, and Katie Sawhill.

Genre Vets Experience ‘The Curse of Downer’s Grove’

X-Men: First Class, Stoker and WolvesLucas Till is headed for Downer’s Grove, signing on to topline Derek Martini‘s indie thriller The Curse of Downer’s Grove” opposite Aimee Teegarden (Scream 4), pictured, and Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead, Frozen).

Story centers on a paranoid high school senior who’s worried about an apparent curse that takes the life of one student every year at the school.

Oren Segal, Jason Dubin and Chiara Trento are producing with lensing set for Los Angeles during February.

Martini, who directed “Hick,” is helming from a script he co-wrote with Bret Easton Ellis, adapted from 2001′s Michael Hornburg novel.

Nelson McCormick was once attached to direct with Hayden Panettiere, Nikki Reed and Rebecca De Mornay starring. That changed, obviously.

It was announced today that Beneath the Darkness, a new indie production from director Martin Guigui that stars Dennis Quaid, Aimee Teegarden, Tony Oller, Stephen Lunsford and Devon Werkheiser, will acquired by Image Entertainment for a limited theaters on January 6, 2012.

Ely Vaughn (Quaid) is a pillar of the community in tiny Smithville, Texas. The town’s mortician, Ely has been revered since his days as the high school’s star quarterback. But since the tragic death of his wife two years earlier, Ely has withdrawn from his neighbors, while local teens spread stories of supernatural goings on at Ely’s mansion – which is also the funeral home.

When high school friends Travis (Oller), Abby (Teegarden), Brian (Lunsford) and Danny (Werkheiser) decide to check out the rumors, they are shocked to see the supposedly grieving widower dancing with a mysterious woman behind the curtains of his bedroom window. Their curiosity aroused, the four teens wait for Ely to leave the house before breaking in to investigate. But instead of finding clues to the woman’s identity, they stumble on a grotesque, long-hidden secret. The sadistic mortician next door will now stop at nothing to literally bury his past.
