Mondo Releasing Poltergeist Soundtrack On Limited Edition Vinyl

Mondo, the collectible arts portion of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has announced that they will be releasing a limited edition vinyl of the classic Steven Spielberg-produced, Tobe Hooper-directed 1982 film Poltergeist. The 2-disc vinyl set will be available on Feb. 22nd via MondoTees with a few randomly selected copies receiving clear vinyl (follow @MondoNews for the exact time of sale). Australian illustration duo We Buy Your Kids were commissioned to do the artwork for the front, back, and gatefold.

Composed by Jerry Goldsmith, the music represents the struggles of a family desperately trying to save their daughter after she has been sucked into their television by malevolent spirits.

[Fantastic Fest '12] First Wave Of Films Announced!!! ‘Dredd 3D’ To Premiere!

I have still never been to Fantastic Fest and every year it gets to be a big reminder that, at some point, I need to get back down to Austin to check it out at some point. We already knew that Frankenweenie would be playing. Now they’ve announced that director Pete Travis’ nuts violent Dredd 3D (written by Alex Garland) will be making its premiere at the fest, which will be held from September 20-27 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.

Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world. In years past the festival has been home to world premieres of There Will Be Blood, Apocalypto, Zombieland, The Human Centipede 2 and Red while the guest roster has included such talent as Mel Gibson, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Ryan Reynolds, Karl Urban, Josh Hartnett, The RZA, Dolph Lundgren, Jemaine Clement, Paul Rudd, Bill Pullman, Paul Thomas Anderson, Kevin Smith, Jon Favreau, George Romero, Darren Aronofsky and Mike Judge. Fantastic Fest also features world, national and regional premieres of new, up-and-coming genre films. Fantastic Fest is held each year at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on South Lamar in Austin, Texas.

Fantastic Fest ’11 Announces Second Wave Of Films

Fantastic Fast, Austin’s annual celebration of genre greatness, just added seventeen new films to its slate, along with a New York Asian Film Festival that will be comprised of four surprise 35mm screenings of Hong Kong exploitation flicks from the late 80′s and early 90′s!

Melancholia is probably the most high profile addition, but there’s a lot of very impressive films making their way into the line-up, including Nacho Vigalondo’s Extraterrestrial, Jaume Balaguero’s Sleep Tight, and Pastorela: A Christmas Play, which sounds like it could be this year’s feel good holiday event. I’m sure they’ll be at least one or two more waves announced before the fest starts, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for The Thing, The Skin I Live In, The Wicker Tree and The Theatre Bizarre.

Fantastic Fest, Austin’s genre film festival, has been snatching headlines left and right over the past few years and judging by their initial line-up, looks like they’ll be doing it again. Beyond the Black Rainbow is my most anticipated title in their 2011 slate so far, but there’s a great mix of new and old from around the world including Japan, Belgium, Mexico, Russia, Hong Kong, Korea and the USA as well. There’s two Fulci restorations, a 3D spaghetti western, something that sounds like a Japanese remake of Love Object and a “mondo trasho flick about a yakuza with a machine gun arm and a rocket launcher leg.”

Check past the break for the first twenty films, with a lot more to be announced in the coming weeks. I’m predicting The Wicker Tree and Melancholia to be in the next batch.
