Black Light Burns New Album ‘Lotus Island’ Available For Pre-Order: Hear Samples Of All Songs

Black Light Burns, the side project of Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, will be releasing a new album entitled Lotus Island on Jan. 21st. The album comes shortly after the release of 2012′s The Moment You Realize You’re Going To Fall (review). You can hear samples of the album on Amazon, where you can also pre-order it.

Borland gave a lengthy description of the album, stating, “It’s 40 minutes long and includes 7 instrumental tracks, 3 brand new songs, and a complete remix and remaster of the song ‘It Rapes All In It’s Path’. The album can be listened to on it’s own or experienced along with the 1973 Alejandro Jodorowsky film ‘The Holy Mountain’ as an alternative soundtrack during the first 40 minutes (before and up to the point where the movie launches into the individual stories of the most powerful people in the world). I wasn’t sure at first whether or not to be forthright with the album being an alternative soundtrack to The Holy Mountain, but, in these times of short attention spanned entertainment, instant gratification, and a general lack of mystery of any kind where there’s nothing left to hide without seeming cliche and a kitten falling on it’s face gets more attention than an artist’s heart and soul poured out into any medium you can shake a stick at, I decided to just go ahead and let the cat out of the bag before the bag ends up in the river and you can just (hopefully) enjoy it for what it is. I’m really excited about it, and if I can neatly wrap up this announcement gone rant without sounding like I’ve thrown my hands up in the air while saying “fuck it” (which I have not), I’m incredibly happy for you to hear it. It’s also my first shot at mixing a record, which has been a mountain I’ve been trying to climb for a while, pun intended.

Win Jodorowsky’s ‘Santa Sangre’ On Blu-Ray!

Although we got quite a few Alejandro Jodorowsky films on DVD a few years back, the one we sadly never got was Santa Sangre, the cult director’s horror masterpiece. Barely seen during its theatrical run and never getting a proper Region One release, it’s definitely an experience every genre fan should have at least once in their life for a multitude of reasons; it’s certainly his most accessible, but it’s depiction of a sick world filled told from a hallucinatory point of view puts it into a class all its own. Severin Films, who has proven themselves to be a powerhouse genre distributor, released the Blu-Ray and DVD of Santa Sangre today, and B-D has been provided with 3 copies of the Blu-Ray to give away to a few lucky readers. For your chance to win, email your name and mailing address to [email protected] with SANTA SANGRE in the subject heading, along with which unreleased genre film you’d like to see get the Severin treatment next. Winners will be chosen at random this Friday afternoon (01/28).

Santa Sangre

A young man is confined in a mental hospital. Through a flashback we see that he was traumatized as a child, when he and his family were circus performers: he saw his father cut off the arms of his mother, a religious fanatic and leader of the heretical church of Santa Sangre (“Holy Blood”), and then commit suicide. Back in the present, he escapes and rejoins his surviving and armless mother. Against his will, he “becomes her arms” and the two undertake a grisly campaign of murder and revenge.
