[Interview] Composer Kevin Riepl Discusses ‘Silent Night’ Score

The Silent Night remake hit limited theaters last Friday and has been drawing in some very high reviews, including one from our very own Lonnie Nadler, which you can check out here. We’ve brought you an interview with director Steven C. Miller and now it’s time to chat the music of the film with composer Kevin Riepl! Below you’ll find an exclusive interview with the music maestro himself.

The film’s cast includes Malcolm McDowell (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Easy A), Jaime King (Sin City, My Bloody Valentine 3D), Donal Logue (Shark Night 3D, Blade), Lisa Marie (Sleepy Hollow), Brendan Fehr (Final Destination, X-Men First Class), and Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World).

McDowell and King star as a small-town sheriff and deputy on the hunt for a murderous Santa Claus terrorizing their community on Christmas Eve. But with the streets full of Santas for the annual Christmas parade, the killer is hiding in plain sight. He’s made his list, checked it twice, and the naughty are going to pay with their lives.READ MORE

Don’t Forget To Stick Together In This New Survivor Mode Trailer For ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’

Gamers have been waiting patiently for a great Aliens game for some time, and with each new trailer I see for the Gearbox developed Aliens: Colonial Marines I feel more confident that this could be the Aliens game we have been looking for (or this could be it too). In this brand alien-spanking new trailer, we get a good look at the new Survivor mode, which pits four marines against seemingly endless hordes of Xenomorphs. It looks like a mix of Left 4 Dead and Gears of War’s Horde mode, which I am all for. Check it out after the break.

Check Out The “Maestros Of Horror & Sci-Fi Music” Panel At The New York Comic Con

On Oct. 12th, at the New York Comic Con, there will be a panel that I’m quite upset I won’t be able to attend. Titled “Maestros Of Horror & Sci-Fi Music”, the panel will feature video game composers Jason Graves (Dead Space), Kevin Riepl (Gears Of War, Aliens: Colonial Marines), Sascha Dikiciyan (Mass Effect 3), Cris Velasco (Mass Effect 3), Sam Hulick (Mass Effect trilogy), Tom Salta (Halo: Combat Evolved), and Nile Rodgers (Halo soundtracks album producer).

The panel will be discussing composing for the horror and sci-fi genres as well as the art of scoring for blockbuster videogames. The panel will be held at the Javits Center in Room 1A01 from 12:15pm to 1:15pm.

I’m a huge fan of most of these composers. If you’re going to the NYC Comic Con, do yourself a favor and attend this event. I’m 99.99% sure that it will be incredible. READ MORE

‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ Competitive Escape Mode Offers An Aliens Twist To A Familiar Multiplayer Mode

Sega and friends recently unveiled a new competitive multiplayer mode in the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines called ‘Escape’, and while it might be lacking in the originality department, it still looks like it’ll be good gory fun. In it, four marines attempt to escape an onslaught of Xenomorphs, four of which are controlled by a team of human players. The Cenomorphs come in a variety of flavors, including the damage-resistant Soldier, the speedy Lurker, and the ranged Spitter. This isn’t the first time a horror game has tried to capture Left 4 Dead’s success–Dead Space 2 made an admirable attempt last year–so I hope Colonial Marines is a little more successful. Check out some new Escape mode gameplay after the break.

Activision DROPS GHOSTBUSTERS FTL!!!

So Activision along with many other titles, is dropping the new Ghostbusters video game. The game is NOT canceled. Think of it like this. Your favorite band gets dropped from their label. Oh no, right? All you can do is hope they get picked up by another label (a decent one), or they might break up and you’ll never hear anymore new music by them. Or they’ll get picked up by a crappy label, and the quality won’t be as good, and then they will be pulled from your myspace top friends list.

ghostbust Activision DROPS GHOSTBUSTERS FTL!!!

Ghostbusters wasn’t the only game to get dropped, Brutal Legend, Wet, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World in Conflict: Soviet Assault, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, Zombie Wranglers and Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust are the others hoping to get picked up. If some of these games don’t get picked back up, then it looks like you’re never going to see them. Now, as much as I’d love to see the new 50 Cent video game, I’m not going to hold my breath.

I’m not too worried about Ghostbusters being picked back up, because I mean come on IT’S GONNA BE AWESOME. Don’t believe me? Read Mr. Brad Disgusting’s review of the game when he got to play it at Comic-Con, *cough* that son of a bitch *cough*. GHOSTBUSTERS REVIEW!

The game was supposed to be released in October of this year. Lets keep our fingers crossed it’s not pushed back, or at least not too far. READ MORE
