Author/music journalist/band manager Jill Hughes Kirtland has just self-published a book entitled Not Just Tits in a Corset: Celebrating Women in Metal, which “…details the unique history, challenges and triumphs women have encountered throughout their careers in metal music.” The book features interviews and photographs of many of metal’s most famed and respected musicians, including Lita Ford, Anneke Van Giersbergen, Alissa White-Gluz, Cristina Scabbia, Tarja Turunen, and many, many more.
An excerpt from the book: “Ten years ago I heard [from women], “Since I saw you in a metal band, I thought ‘okay, I can do this as well.’” Sometimes we need a little bit of an example.” – Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering, solo artist)
The book is available for order through Kirtland’s website.
