[BD Review] ‘Gone’ Is The Worst Major Release I Have Seen In My Adult Life

[BD Review] Gone Is The Worst Major Release I Have Seen In My Adult Life

Summit Entertainment ‘s Gone hits theaters today. I’m urging you not to go.

Every single character is such a vacant red herring without any semblance of human logic or emotion that I almost felt myself sliding into uncanny valley. Watching ‘Gone’ is like watching the world’s dumbest person play the world’s worst RPG side mission… it just chooses to be lazy. It chooses to be boring and bad. With so much in its corner you would think it could provide at least one single entertaining moment, but it willfully declines. And that is unforgivable. It chooses to take your money without the effort or intent of living up to its end of the bargain.

Directed by Heitor Dhalia, and also starring Emily Wickersham, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Carpenter, Erin Carufel, Sebastian Stan, and Socratis Otto, “the thriller revolves around a young woman named Jill (Seyfried) who returns home from her night shift to find her sister’s bed empty. She’s convinced the serial killer who kidnapped her two years before has come back to finish the job. But the police do not believe Jill, who knows time is running out. Don’t Go Messing With Amanda Seyfried In First ‘Gone’ Clipage

Dont Go Messing With Amanda Seyfried In First Gone Clipage

Summit Entertainment has released the first clip from Gone, their thriller starring Amanda Seyfried in theaters February 24. The clip pits Seyfried against two suspicious cops whom I’d bet are responsible for the kidnappings (or at least the one with stupid Twilight hair). Although, Wes Bentley is sort of typecast as “the villain”. Hmmm…..

The Only Thing Interesting About ‘Gone’ Is Amanda Seyfried

The Only Thing Interesting About Gone Is Amanda Seyfried

Hoping to clear my memory of this hideous poster, I’m staring intensely at Amanda Seyfried in the first two official images from Summit Entertainment’s Gone, their thriller in theaters February 24. They’re still pretty boring. Seyfried is the sole reason I still want to see this (who says star power is dead?) From the so-so trailer to these hum-ho stills, I think it’s safe to assume that we should be mildly “alarmed”.

Hideous One-Sheet for Amanda Seyfried Starrer ‘Gone’

Hideous One Sheet for Amanda Seyfried Starrer Gone

I just Gone and barfed all over my parent’s carpet.

The poster has premiered for Summit Entertainment’s Gone, the Heitor Dhalia-directed thriller starring Amanda Seyfried, Emily Wickersham, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Carpenter, Erin Carufel, Sebastian Stan, and Socratis Otto.

In theaters February 24, the one-sheet depicts a collage of Seyfried’s face, a mysterious woman and an even more mysterious intruder. At quick glance all I see are Seyfried’s “f*ck me eyes”. Hey, sex sells. I know a few people who’d hang this post on their ceiling. (Didn’t mean to go there. But yes, yes I did.)

Terrible Casting Gives Away ‘Gone’ Killer in Trailer Premiere

Terrible Casting Gives Away Gone Killer in Trailer Premiere

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve heard anything about Summit Entertainment’s serial killer genre pic Gone, but the silence has been broken with the trailer premiere for the Heitor Dhalia-directed thriller arriving in theaters February 24.

We’ve added the trailer below that’s 50% awesome and 50% god awful.

The thriller revolves around a young woman named Jill (Seyfried) who returns home from her night shift to find her sister’s bed empty. She’s convinced the serial killer who kidnapped her two years before has come back to finish the job. But the police do not believe Jill, who knows time is running out. With no one to turn to, she sets off to find her sister and face her abductor once and for all.

All of the footage featuring Amanda Seyfried is pretty compelling, and I enjoy the motivation that she has to take matters into her own hands to catch the killer. This leads me to what I hate about the trailer: the police. It seems absolutely idiotic that the police wouldn’t believe her, and even more ridiculous that they’d be hunting her down — unless (spoiler warning) the killer is a man in blue. Based on the trailer, I’d bet a pretty hefty sum that Daniel Sunjata (“Rescue Me”) is involved with the kidnappings. Not to mention there are clearly two people during an assault towards the last shot of the trailer. Am I wrong? You tell me. READ MORE

Blu-ray Review: ‘Red Riding Hood’

Knowing that Catherine Hardwicke’s departure from the Twilight franchise was announced amidst a publicity tour for the first film due to budgetary and shooting schedule concerns, one has to wonder where all that extra time and money went when watching Red Riding Hood, her follow-up feature. The fairy tale, whose numerous versions have been penned by the likes of Charles Perrault and The Brothers Grimm, has traditionally been a dark story deeply rooted in feministic themes, but David Johnson’s screenplay opts for a more shallow approach, swapping sexual awakenings and the descent into womanhood with a one-sided love triangle. One needs to look no further than The Company Of Wolves to see this timeless work altered as a cinematic narrative, which is heads above Hardwicke’s desperate attempt to mine similar territory in the hopes of repeating her only undisputed box-office success.

Red Riding Hood

David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) wrote the script, which is set in a village haunted by a werewolf. It is a Gothic retelling of the “Little Red Riding Hood story”, with a teenage love triangle at its center.

Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) is a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. Panic grips the town as Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.

Jennifer Carpenter ‘Gone’ Hunting for a Killer

Some pretty wicked casting to end the evening as Emily Wickersham (I Am Number Four), Wes Bentley (P2) and Jennifer Carpenter (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Quarantine, “Dexter”) are going to Gone opposite Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body, Red Riding Hood) in the thriller from Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.

Gone will be directed by Heitor Dhalia from a script penned by Allison Burnett centering on a kidnap survivor who attempts to find the same killer whom she believes has abducted her sister. Seyfried came on board in February.

Shooting’s set to being in April with Summit Entertainment locked to distribute.

Warners Releases Another 3 ‘Red Riding Hood’ TV Spots

Warner Bros. is all in when it comes to Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood as they’ve now released 6 now-airing TV Spots from the romantic horror arriving in theaters March 11. While I think the footage looks pretty OK, there’s some pretty hefty negative buzz surrounding the film. What do you guys think of what you’ve seen thus far?

‘Red Riding Hood’ Stares You Down in New Poster

I often wonder why international posters are cooler than the ones here in the States. Maybe the MPAA has something to do with it? I dunno… anyways, inside you’ll find the Spanish one sheet for Caperucita Roja, or Red Riding Hood, the Catherine Hardwicke-directed “Little Red Riding Hood” tale that looks more like a Twilight sequel than makes me comfortable. It features a stunning look at star Amanda Seyfried, who takes a break from her journey to Grandma’s house. What’s she staring at? Is it me, or does she want a little somethin’-somethin’?

Nine Inch Nails Rock Second ‘Red Riding Hood’ Trailer

I was hit up by a few Twitter followers (who attended a confirmed test screening) that report to me Warners forthcoming Red Riding Hood is absolutely “terrible”. It burns me to the core to see Catherine Hardwicke fall so hard after directing such compelling teen-themed dramas as Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown. It’s been a downhill roll since then. If March 11 comes around and I too am disappointed with this “Little Red Riding Hood” adaptation, I’m crossing her off my gift list for next Christmas (like I really have one). Even with the bad buzz, it’s hard to ignore awesome trailers that rock badass Nine Inch Nails tunes; check out the second inside.
