[TV] “Zombieland” Series Cancelled, Amazon Passes On Pilot

Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland” pilot has ended its one month trial presentation and, sadly, the show will not continue. Not on Amazon at least, the network has passed on the series. While it’s technically possible the show could be passed on to another network, it’s probably not all that likely.

There were elements of the pilot I liked, but unfortunately the Amazon “voting” system – IMO – left the network completely off the hook in regard to its creative decisions. The pilot certainly wasn’t perfect, but most TV shows don’t find their stride until at least a few episodes in. Oh well.

The show was based on the hit Columbia Pictures movie of the same name, and found our four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. The Zombieland pilot came from the feature film’s original creative team, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Joe Schmo Show), and producer Gavin Polone (Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) directed the pilot. READ MORE

[TV] 5 Questions With “Zombieland” Creators Rhett Reese And Paul Wernick

Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland” pilot is now out and available to view for free! Right here. There’s a feedback button to vote for the show’s future (as previously reported) – I say go ahead and do it. I dig the pilot, but I’m also aware that typically shows get even better afterwards.

To that end I recently hopped on a conference call with Rheese and Wernick (and a few other journalists). We talked about how Kirk Ward was the original choice to play Tallahassee (even before Woody Harrelson; “Zombieland” was going to be a TV show before it became a movie) and why they’ve chosen re-adapt the material back into the TV format. They also give their thoughts on Amazon’s unique pilot vetting process. READ MORE

[TV] That “Zombieland” Pilot Is Finally Live!

After sort of a bungled launch, and then a one-day delay, Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland” pilot is now out and available to view for free! Right HERE! This is the US link, other countries may need to go to their own Amazon site.

There’s a feedback button to vote for the show’s future (as previously reported) – I say go ahead and do it. You know how much better shows get after the pilot. I’ll be checking this show out later today and hoping for the best.

[TV] Whoa! Watch The “Zombieland” Pilot Now! UPDATE!

2nd Update: Apparently this is sort of a “technical error” launch on Amazon’s part. The link says you “own” the video and can play it, but it doesn’t actually play the file. Make no mistake, this is the page where it we’ll be. We’re now hearing that this will be out Friday (tomorrow). We’ll update when that happens.

This came almost out of nowhere (sans yesterday’s hint) Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland” pilot is… out! For free on Amazon! Right HERE! Right now this apparently only works for US residents.

Also, I haven’t seen it yet so it might be great, but if there’s an option to vote for the show’s future (as previously reported) – go ahead and do it. You know how much better shows get after the pilot.

[TV] A Gummy Bloody Look At The New “Zombieland” TV Show

EW got their hands on a gummy new pic from Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland”. It features an elderly Zombie attacking Wichita and Columbus. I wonder if old zombies smell worse? [TV] Kirk Ward Takes Over For Woody Harrelson In “Zombieland”

Amazon’s “Zombieland” pilot has cast Kirk Ward (The Island) in the role of Tallahassee, taking over for Woody Harrelson who portrayed the character in the film. He joins Majara Walsh, Izabela Vidovic and Tyler Ross in the cast of central leads.

And he might have been the first choice for the role, from back in the day before Zombieland became a feature. Per Deadline, “Reese and Wernick, who conceived Zombieland as a TV show, originally had Ward in mind for Tallahassee after meeting the actor while shooting the William Shatner-starring Spike TV limited series Invasion Iowa.

The comedy continues the events of the original film, with new actors taking over the roles of Columbus, Tallahassee and Wichita, previously played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone, respectively, in the 2009 Ruben Fleischer feature. Wichita (Walsh) a natural con-woman and tough girl who with her younger sister Little Rock (Vidovic) teams up with Tallahassee (Ward) and Columbus (Ross) to survive the zombie apocalypse and search for survivors.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will pen the script for Sony Pictures Television, which is producing the Amazon pilot.

[Interview] Director Marcel Sarmiento On ‘The ABC’s Of Death’ And His Favorite Onscreen Death Of All Time!!

Magnet officially releases The ABCs of Death on various On Demand platforms (Cable VOD, iTunes, Amazon, Xbox Zune, Playstation Market, VUDU and Google Play) TODAY January 31st with a limited theatrical run set for March 8. The film has 26 directors, so to celebrate 26 different websites are running exclusive interviews with the film’s directors! If you do some poking around (Badass Digest, Slashfilm, HitFix, Latino Review etc…) you can find some of the others. Eventually all 26 interviews will be collected at the The ABCs of Death Tumblr.

I’m particularly excited about my interview. Director Marcel Sarmiento (the underrated Deadgirl) has fashioned one of the true highlights of the film with his segment, “D is for Dogfight.” It’s a truly incredible bit of visual storytelling, a complete narrative contained within a beautifully shot 5 minute sequence without any dialogue.

In this mega-anthology, “Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

[TV] “Zombieland” TV Series To Take Place On The Amazon…

…On Demand service, that is.

A few days ago we got wind of the news that Zombieland was headed into development as a TV show. Casting calls had gone out and we had some character breakdowns. More on that here.

Now, Broadcast Now is reporting the Amazon Studios is using the high profile series as a way to expand its Instand Video Service. “Online retailer Amazon is developing a remake of horror comedy ‘Zombieland’…The on-demand version, which is expected to be distributed as a series of 30 minute episodes, will include the four main characters of the original along with a handful of new characters. Gavin Polone, producer of the original film, which starred Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone, told Broadcast that he was now developing the project with Amazon.

More on this as it comes in!

Amazon Giving Customers Free Digital Copy Of Every CD Purchased Since 1998

Amazon.com will be introducing a new service entitled AutoRip, which will upload digital copies of every Music Player-compatible CD a customer has purchased since 1998 to their cloud storage. The data will not impact the storage limitations that each customer has (meaning a customer won’t be charged if this goes beyond their storage space). The service will also upload a digital copy upon point of purchase.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos states, “What would you say if you bought music CDs from a company 15 years ago, and then 15 years later that company licensed the rights from the record companies to give you the MP3 versions of those CDs… and then to top it off, did that for you automatically and for free?

The goal for Amazon is to get more people using the cloud-based player it has instead of services like Spotify, iTunes, Google Music, etc… The service will begin in the US and then shift over to the UK.

I can see this as being a great way for people to go back and replay music that they might’ve forgotten about. After all, how many of us remember every single CD we’ve purchased over the last 15 years? READ MORE

‘Dead Space 3′ Gets Fresh With The Kinect, GameStop, And Amazon. Filthy Dirty Whore

“Better with Kinect” is becoming a surprisingly popular slogan. Dead Space 3 is going to be one of those games with Kinect support. Also Destructoid is reporting you have 2 avenues of pre ordering the game that will get you some hot bonus action. Pre order at GameStop to get the EG-900 Sub Machine Gun, and Amazon gives you the Enervator. It sounds a bit more brutal than the EG-900 and I must admit I’m a way bigger Amazon fan. [Interview] Eli Roth Talks RZA, Building The World Of ‘The Man With The Iron Fists’ And What To Expect From ‘The Green Inferno’!

Even though The Man With the Iron Fists is billed as a “Quentin Tarantino Presents” project, Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel, Hostel 2) and RZA are the clear creative forces behind the film. They wrote the project together (based on an original story by RZA), working for years to create the world and mythology of the film. As a producer, Roth was on the film’s set in China every day helping RZA through his directorial debut.

In the film, “Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.

I recently hopped on the phone with Roth and we discussed his partnership with RZA, building the world of Iron Fists, working with Russell Crowe and avoiding fight fatigue. In regard to his own work as a director, we talked about his evolution and what we can expect from The Green Inferno. READ MORE

Eli Roth Shooting In Previously Unfilmed Village For ‘The Green Inferno’

Eli Roth’s (Cabin Fever, Hostel, Hostel: Part II) November shoot for The Green Inferno is just around the corner. And this cannibal film, inspired by Italo mondo films like Ruggero Deodato’s notorious 1980 Cannibal Holocaust and Antonio Climati’s 1988 Natura contro (also known as The Green Inferno and Cannibal Holocaust II), will literally be shooting in the middle of nowhere.

Roth told Movieline that he’s taking a small crew to a remote village up the Amazon River that has “no electricity, no running water, nothing.” And what to do the villagers get in return? “We’re giving these people a boat They have no contact with the outside world and we’re giving them a motorboat and we’re giving them medical supplies and school supplies, so they’re ecstatic. The one thing they need is a boat. They were like, ‘This will literally change our lives’.

Oh, and these people had never seen a movie before. So what did the Green Inferno team screen for them? Cannibal Holocaust. “The villagers thought it was the funniest thing they’d ever seen.

Roth’s hotly anticipated return to the director’s chair is said to follow a group of New York City student activists who head to the amazon where they plan to protest and save un-contacted tribes. Since the group is described as being “naive” in their efforts, I’m assuming the tribe is hungry. Roth penned the screenplay with Guillermo Amoedo. The duo also co-wrote Aftershock, which Dimension Films acquired out of the Midnight Madness portion of the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.

Two Resident Evil 6 bundles have been outed by online retailer Amazon–one for the PS3 and another for the Xbox 360–that include a variety of Resident Evil related bonuses for those who look at Resident Evil 6 and scoff at its utter lack of content. The first is the Resident Evil Anthology for the PS3, which brings with it Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4 HD and the Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition. The second is the Resident Evil Archives for the Xbox 360 and it will include Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 4 HD, Code Veronica HD, Resident Evil 5′s Gold Edition and the CGI film Resident Evil: Degeneration. Pre-order Resident Evil 6 For Exclusive Mercenaries Maps

I like me some Mercenaries. I kicked an unruly amount of non-zombie ass in Resident Evil 4′s Mercenaries mode, snapping necks as H.U.N.K. or spin-butter-fly-cartwheel kicking them in the face as Ada Wong. Amazon’s Rise Of Nightmares Pre Order Bonus, Well, It Sucks.

I remember spending full price for a game when I was younger, getting absolutely NOTHING extra with it, and then hating the crap out of the game. We live in a good era for video games. But if Amazon wants to beat out Game Stop they need to schmooze some better exclusives. Although Amazon does a lot of the time offer you a 20 dollar credit towards your next video game when you buy a new game from them. READ MORE
