Another “The Walking Dead Theme Goes Metal” Video For You

Apparently there is something about Bear McCreary’s theme for The Walking Dead that brings out the metal in people. Below is YouTube user Bryce Goertzen‘s rockin’ cover of the now infamous theme. Give it a watch and lemme know what you think!

Personally, I think it’s a bit too shredtastic and in-your-face but I’ll give the guy a few things: 1) Those are some seriously practiced guitar faces/poses. I think he’s got one of those ballet studio mirrors that spans a whole wall in his room just so he can see how metal he looks. 2) Anyone that has a Jeff Loomis Schecter guitar is okay in my book. I’ve always wanted one of those guitars but that could be because I think it’ll magically transform me into a songwriter of Nevermore caliber. Delusions of grandeur, I know, but one can hope. [TV] Season 4 Of “The Walking Dead” To Feature Less Running And “More Character”, Also Rick Won’t Always Be Crazy

Season 4 of AMC’s The Walking Dead commences production in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th. The current Season 3 is a high water mark for the historically spotty show in terms of both ratings and quality, so naturally more than a few folks are curious about the recent decision to replace the responsible showrunner, Glen Mazzara, with Scott M. Gimple (who may be even better – who knows).

Paleyfest, an annual event that offers some pretty great panels and roundtables with cast and creatives from various TV shows, held its “Walking Dead” event this past Friday and, per EW, there were some pretty interesting revelations about Season 4.

Head below to check it out! One thing to be thankful for, Rick will stop hallucinating at some point. READ MORE

[TV] Departing “Walking Dead” Showrunner Glen Mazzara On This Season’s Bombshell Finale And The Upcoming Season 4

As we mentioned earlier, AMC announced today that the cast and crew of The Walking Dead return to Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th to begin production on season four. Season 3 is currently about to wrap up, but it’s also considered the strongest run in the series to date. And it’s certainly the highest rated, which is why it’s a bit of a mystery that showrunner Glen Mazzara is leaving and handing the reigns over to Scott M. Gimple.

While Gimple has been a writer on the show for years, it’s still a shocking move that caught many off guard. Luckily Scenestr caught up with Mazzara and got quite a few quotes that shed some light on the situation and what it means for the (already written) 4th season of “The Walking Dead.”

AMC Stays In The Horror Business With “The Terror”

With “The Walking Dead” pulling in INSANE ratings it makes total sense that AMC is looking to expand its horror slate. And I’m hopeful that “The Terror” will be a much stronger outing than “Walking Dead”, which is still only “so-so” in my book.

“The Terror” series will be an adaptation of the 2007 bestselling novel by Dan Simmons. I haven’t read the book, but the synopsis piques my interest. It’s “is set in 1847 when the crew of a Royal Naval expedition to find the Arctic’s treacherous Northwest Passage discovers instead a monstrous predator – a cunning and vicious Gothic horror that stalks the ships in a desperate game of survival, the consequences of which could endanger the region and its native people forever.

It’s being written by David Kajganich, who is also adapting the feature film version of The Stand for Warner Bros. he will executive produce along with Ridley (and formerly Tony) Scott’s Scott Free TV, Television 360, and Alexandra Milchan.

No air date has been set, and that probably won’t change for quite a while. READ MORE

AMC To Release ‘The Walking Dead (AMC Original Soundtrack – Vol. 1)’ And It Looks Terrible

Fans of The Walking Dead have been clamoring nonstop for an official soundtrack of Bear McCreary’s compositions. There are Facebook pages, petitions, and more, as fans make their voices heard. For the longest time AMC ignored these pleas and composer McCreary was left without an answer when fans turned to him asking, “When will a soundtrack be released?”

Well, AMC appears to have swayed and has unveiled a Mar. 19th release date for The Walking Dead (AMC Original Soundtrack – Vol. 1), which is now available for pre-order on iTunes (those who pre-order get an instant download of Jamie N Common‘s “Lead Me Home”). However, it is terrible. Consisting of eight tracks, there is not a single original piece of music on the soundtrack. There is McCreary’s main theme but it’s a remix by UNKLE. The rest of the soundtrack consists of licensed songs that are going to be used in the upcoming second half of season 3.

Maybe I’m a bit off, but if fans are clamoring left and right for Bear McCreary’s original compositions as a soundtrack, wouldn’t you release Bear McCreary’s original compositions as the soundtrack?!

Head on below for the track listing as well as a description of which song will appear in which episode. READ MORE

[TV] Was “The Walking Dead” Showrunner Actually Fired?

It’s no secret that AMC has fired two showrunners in less than 18 months from “The Walking Dead,” they’re biggest hit that also one of the most successful franchises on television. The December 21 departure of Glen Mazzara sent shock waves through the undead fan base already frustrated with the loss of co-creator Frank Darabont in July 2011.

The Hollywood Reporter is attempting to get to the bottom of the “mutual” split based on creative differences, as it was originally cited, and is reporting that Mazzara was straight-up fired.

Says the site: “One source says Mazzara’s shortcomings in running the series during the most recent third season became “abundantly clear … especially for the second half of the season.” This source says production was shut down “several times” because of a lack of material.

Mazzara declined comment but will participate in a January 11 AFI awards luncheon that will honor “Walking Dead” as one of 2012′s top shows. Maybe he’ll go on record by this weekend?

The midseason finale Dec. 2 lured 10.5 million total viewers and 6.9 million in the key adults 18-to-49 demo, crushing nearly all broadcast network shows.

[TV] “The Walking Dead” Renewed For Fourth Season As Problems Persist…

In the most perplexing of breaking stories, AMC has announced the renewal of The Walking Dead for a fourth season but has tied it to the news that Glen Mazzara is stepping down as showrunner. That’s two down in three seasons…

AMC jointly announces with Glen Mazzara today that for future seasons, the two parties have mutually decided to part ways. Glen guided the series creatively for seasons 2 and 3. “AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success,” explains the release.

Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.

I’ve never seen a show that’s so incredibly successful, and so popular, yet has such obvious behind-the-scenes drama. You could almost go as far as to say the problems in making the hit series is more interesting than the show itself…

In May and June of 2011 we reported tension between showrunner Frank Darabont and AMC. This transpired to Darabont stepping down in July. By that same night AMC announced that Mazzara would run the series. We celebrated.

Since then, the adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Image Comic series has thrived, but it’s been more about putting bandages on the problems than progressing the series. Some good fixes include the criss-crossing between the Rick Grimes camp and The Governor’s military operation, which has made the first half of season 3 move at a much quicker pace. And as I’ve stated multiple times, killing off annoying characters and finally giving Carl some balls has catapulted the drama to a new level. Still, as good as Season 3 has been, it should be even better. This is AMC, the cabler responsible for “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” – I expect award-winning television! READ MORE

‘The Walking Dead’ Mid-Season Finale Review: Smokey Invasions, Touching Reunions, And Zombie Head Aquarium Brawls!

On Sunday, the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead premiered where a lot happened. We were given more questions than answers, though that isn’t too surprising seeing as the writers want to keep us hooked so we all tune in when the series returns in February. What is surprising is how many smoke grenades Rick’s group brought with them to their little invasion of Woodbury. Between the flashes of gunfire and thick haze, I thought I was at some sort of post-apocalyptic rave. Speaking of which, can we please dedicate an episode to a giant party where the citizens of Woodbury drop their guns and their inhibitions and get freaky? I’m picturing a pulsating mass of writing, sweaty bodies — think Matrix: Reloaded, only with more sex. They’ve been through a lot, I think they deserve it.

Creepy TWD fantasies aside, this episode was pretty great. I promise the majority of my review isn’t as gross as the above paragraph, but what I can’t promise is there won’t be any spoilers. Actually, I can promise there will be spoilers, and lots of ‘em. Now let’s dig in.
