‘American Vampire Anthology’ Includes Stories From Snyder, Rucka, Lemire, & More

Scott Snyder’s “American Vampire” has been on hiatus for the past couple of months, but Vertigo has some special plans for the book this summer. HeroComplex reports that Vertigo is planning to release “American Vampire Anthology” this August. The 80-page comic will feature eigth stories from DC all stars, including Greg Rucka, Gail Simone, Becky Cloonan, Jeff Lemire, Ray Fawkes, Francesco Francavilla, Declan Shalvey, Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon and more. The anthology follows up the release of the “American Vampire: The Long Road to Hell” one-shot issue from Snyder and Albuquerque in June. READ MORE

Scott Snyder and Rafael Alburquerque will be taking a definite break from “American Vampire” after issue #34. They will be getting ahead of the series, which will time jump to the ’60s.

During the hiatus, Snyder will be working on The Wake with artist Sean Murphy. Snyder says, “A horror, sci-fi story with post-apocalyptic elemlents that begins with a terrifying discovery about human evolution, and it takes place at the bottotm the ocean. It explores sea myths, such as sirens and seas serpents, all the things we are in awe of and terrified of the ocean.” This maxi-sized 12 issue miniseres will be coming out next spring. Wonderfully entertaining and amazingly action-packed, American Vampire Vol. 4 is the same gripping roller-coaster ride we’ve all come to expect from Scott Snyder. “American Vampire” offers all the action, suspense, and thrills you could ever hope for in a vampire tale. Snyder forgoes all vampirism cliches, yet he manages to keep the story deeply rooted in American history and traditional vampire lore. With “American Vampire” Vol. 4, Snyder and Albuquerque continue to bring bad boy vampire, Skinner Sweet, through various time periods. Rockabilly era skinner is one of Snyder’s best renditions yet. Scott Snyder has been working to revitalize the vampire genre for the past few years with American Vampire, and it’s amazing how he’s still able to come up with so many new ideas for the blood-suckers. The book began with Stephen King as a co-writer, and it’s grown into a beast under Snyder’s guidance. This week’s “American Vampire” #31 continues the Skinner and Pearl team-up mystery. READ MORE

Everyone and their brother has a hard-on for Scott Snyder’s work on “American Vampire”. It’s an expansive world of vampire lore that keeps on building. Snyder is about to kick off the second spin-off mini series alongside famed “Batman” artist, Dustin Nguyen, titled Lord Of Nightmares. While I try to uphold my journalistic integrity for the most part, I cannot contain my excitment for this five-part mini-series. The last “American Vampire” mini “Survival Of The Fittest” won multiple awards, and the bar has been set. Expect nothing but the best from this one. Check out the first few pages after the jump. Vertigo announced this morning that the incredibly talented Roger Cruz will be filling in on art duties for Rafael Albuquerque for the upcoming American Vampire arc titled, “The Nocturnes”. If we’ve told you once, we’ve told you twice, anything Scott Snyder lays his pen to turns to pure gold. American Vampire is proof that Snyder is unprecedented when it comes to crafting gripping story lines with characters that matter. Issue #21 brings on the big finale of the “The Beast in the Cave” arc, and with the amazon vampire finally let loose, havoc will be wreaked. We all know Snyder has a certain knack for finishing off arcs with a bang and this should be no exception. I finally figured out why “American Vampire” has been such a success. Scott Snyder is actually part an alien life form known for their ability to create stories that dumfound the human race. One day, he will consume us all, but not before he gives us a few more incredible comics. Last months issue of the “American Vampire” concluded the ‘Ghost War’ arc in a big way, leaving the future of the series open for just about anything. The Survival of the Fittest mini-series has lived up to the standards of the original and next week brings the second to last ish. It’s getting harder and harder to find a vampire story, whether in literature, film, or comics, that depicts the bloodsuckers in such a way that maintains their ferocity and ere of mystery. By now it’s even become cliché to hate on the Twilight series, and outright boring to read another rip on the sparkling vampires. It seems as though many writers don’t even care about vampire lore, but care only about the latest trend in literature to make a name for themselves. Luckily there are people like Scott Snyder who bring a sense of novelty to the vampire genre helping to continue the legacy of the most infamous of creatures. Maybe it’s best we leave our hatred for Twilight behind and start focusing on the true face of modern monsters, American Vampire. The creative team of Snyder and Albuquerque bring you an absolutely jaw dropping tale about vampires and the real horrors of living in a world with them.
