Woman Covers Silent Hill And Animals As Leaders On Celtic Harp

YouTube user Mashuggah Halcyon, who hails from Russia, is a multi-instrumentalist who has uploaded videos of her covering various songs, both video game related and from the metal genre. They’re rather incredible as she plays these pieces with near effortless grace (while wearing a metal shirt). Particularly, her cover of Animals As Leaders‘ “On Impulse” gives the song a completely different feel, almost as though it belongs in a Legend Of Zelda game. Also, her covers of Silent Hill 1′s “Not Tomorrow” and Silent Hill 2′s “Promise (Reprise)” are fantastic.

Intronaut Singer Joins Meshuggah For “New Millenium Cyanide Christ”

Meshuggah vocalist Jens Kidman was forced to sit out last night’s performance in Atlanta due to coming down with the flu. However, the band did not cancel their performance, instead creating a post on Facebook stating, “[Kidman]‘s mute for now. WE WILL PLAY ANYWAY. So memorize the lyrics and bring your very best growl Atlanta. You will all be Jens tonight!! Lets make this happen!

During a performance of “Bleed”, a cardboard cutout of Kidman was put on stage and pre-recorded vocals were broadcasted.

However, during their performance of “New Millennium Cyanide Christ”, singer Sacha Dunable of Intronaut (who is touring with the band) came out to sing the vocals. Check it all out below. READ MORE

[Random Cool] Watch A Man Cover Animals As Leaders’ “Cafo” On Cello

The Animals As Leaders song “Cafo” is already ridiculously impressive and complex. Now Leonhard Roczek of Genuine Aspect has decided to take things a step further and played a great deal of the song on his cello. He admits that a few parts of the song are sped up and that MIDI was used at a few points. However, it’s still technically amazing and well worth a watch. If nothing else, it creates a new dimension and feel to the track, adding in an extra element of beauty. Check it out below. READ MORE

Animals As Leaders Guitarist Unlawfully Arrested In Boston

Animals As Leaders guitarist Javier Reyes (pictured above) appears to have been unlawfully arrested in Boston after leaving a venue where they had just performed. It seems that Reyes, along with a group of friends and his band members, were walking along the street when a police officer shoved one of Reyes’ friends, turned him around and proceeded to handcuff him. Reyes pulled out his cell phone and stated that he was recording this event. This set off a chain of events that you can read below in an eyewitness description.

Not only have fans gathered in an online petition to have all charges dropped but the music world has joined in as well. Bands such as Cephalic Carnage, Job For A Cowboy, Born Of Osiris, Whitechapel, and more have posted the link to the online petition, urging their fans to sign and let their voices be heard. If you wish to sign, here is the link. READ MORE

Exclusive Interview: Kim Benzie Of Dead Letter Circus

If you read my review of This Is The Warning then you know how I feel about Dead Letter Circus. This Australian band came to my attention when I heard that they’d be signed to Sumerian Records, a label that has a lot of amazing talent signed on. So, after hearing the album (mind blown) and seeing that they were doing a US tour with Animals As Leaders (interview here), I knew that I had to meet up with the guys and have a little chat.

T.R.A.M. – Is This The New Music Supergroup?

So, a new music supergroup is about to emerge on the music scene and I’m cautiously optimistic about their sound: T.R.A.M.. Featuring Adrian Terrazas (The Mars Volta) on sax, flute, bass clarinet and percussion, Javier Reyes (Animals As Leaders) on guitars, Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders) on guitars, and Eric Moore (Suicidal Tendencies) on drums, T.R.A.M. will be performing their first live show at SXSW, March 17th at Venue 222. Keep an eye out on the Official Facebook for info as well a song debut in the next few weeks.

Now, here’s why I’m cautious in my optimism: each of these members is absurdly talented and now their instrument inside and out. However, just because you know your instrument and can play technically amazing things doesn’t mean that you can make relatable music. Here’s hoping I’m wrong because if done right, this band could be something truly special and amazing. READ MORE

Metal Blade Signs Deal With Fleshwrought

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the addition of experimental death metal band Fleshwrought to its family. Fleshwrought features Navene Koperweis (former drummer of Bay area grind band Animosity, currently in Animals As Leaders) and Jonny Davy (vocalist of Arizona’s Job for a Cowboy); Navene performing all instruments on the band’s debut album Dementia/Dyslexia with Jonny Davy handling lyrics and vocals.
“I’m truly amazed that a small project I started in my bedroom at my mom’s house has become something worthy of a Metal Blade release. What more could I ask for? I couldn’t be more proud and honored!” Navene Koperweis
“This record has been complete for an extremely long time. Navene and myself are extremely pumped to finally have the beast released.” Jonny Davy
Dementia/Dyslexia was finished by June 2009 and was recorded at Navene’s studio, Death Midi Soundlab, in San Francisco. Navene played all of the instruments, did all the tracking, mixing, and editing, with mastering handled by Dustin Miller at Audio Aggregate Recordings in Des Moines Iowa. In terms of what Fleshwrought hopes people will take away from listening to Dementia/Dyslexia, Navene personally hopes it is inspiration and a connection with the music, much in the way he has felt about those who have inspired him through his journey as a musician and lover of music.
