Chopper

It is a gritty, modern re-imagining of the headless horseman from the Sleepy Hollow legend. After taking a hit of a strange new ecstasy-like drug at the Daytona Bike Week festival, the rebellious teenage daughter of a police officer begins seeing ghosts and is stalked by the Reaper, a headless Hell’s Angel on a motorcycle that hunts down sinners. Chopper combines themes and elements from such past successes as Seven, Halloween, and Constantine.

[UPDATE] Oz Goes Steam Punk With Arcana Comics

On Free Comic Book Day, Arcana Comics released a teaser for their updated Oz tale, “The Steam Engines of Oz”. Jumping on the bandwagon to bring a modern twist to the classic magical world, Sean Patrick O’Reilly and Erik Hendrix show us a steam-punked version of Oz where Victoria Wright and her pals try to escape the great and powerful land.

The tale continues in a new series from Arcana this June, despite the fact that it’s still being Kickstarted. How is it being solicited when it’s still seeking crowd funding? Your guess is as good as mine. You can read the FCBD teaser on ComiXology for free.

UPDATE: I spoke with series Erik Hendrix Re: the whole Kickstarter thing. Apparently the first three-issue arc is set for release and the Kickstarter campaign is to determine whether the series will continue after that. They are hoping to put the fate of the book in the hands’ of the readers rather than the retailers.

The first issue hits shops in June, 2013 READ MORE

Review: ‘Lucas’ The Ultimate Killer Of Killers

The level of imagination and skill that went into Lucas is not only impressive, but enough to put David Murdoch at the forefront of all horror graphic novel collectors’ minds. The book started off as a crossbreed art-book that amassed the work of numerous illustrators to tell one horrific tale of terror. “Lucas” quickly transformed into a short horror narrative that’s more novel than graphic. Murdoch boldly takes on the roles of creator, writer, illustrator, and colourist for “Lucas”. Finding a home with Arcana Studio, Murdoch’s story is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Dexter. Only, this killer of killers is just as terrifying and psychotic as the family of cannibalistic sadists he destroys. READ MORE

Advance Review: ‘Deadly Harvest’ Graphic Novel

Historically the amount of danger involved in your line of work has an impact on your pay rate; mining, oil rigs, and king crab fishing is just a few of these hard work load, but high wealth employment opportunities. Erik Hendrix and Michael David Nelsen take this to the next level in “Deadly Harvest” where the aim is mining asteroids and other space debris for a highly combustible ore known as Klip. The tough part? Klip explodes with kinetic energy making it one hell of a deadly harvest. Of course, it isn’t the only hazard involved in this industry, and over the course of this intergalactic thrill ride, many other deadly obstacles present themselves. READ MORE
