[Modern Art] All Hail The Pumpkin King

Today, we’re looking at some gorgeous digital paintings from Slovakian artist Rado Javor. After sifting through his gallery I’d say he’s a man who shares my fondness for Halloween. He does an amazing job of capturing the essence of the holiday, which is so much more than costumes, haunted houses and trick or treating. Looking at his work makes me want to scour a pumpkin patch for the perfect pumpkin so I can take it home, stab it repeatedly, pull out its insides, set it on fire and display it on my porch for all to see.

Oh, and there are also a few awesome paintings of alien invasions, because hey, those are cool too.

[Modern Art] I Want All Of These Fan-Made ‘Resident Evil’ Statues

Let’s take a break from terrifying and amazing horror art to check out something a little more three dimensional. These Resident Evil statues are the work of an extremely talented sculptor named Michael Locascio. For fan-made work, the level of detail he’s put into each piece is very impressive.

If I were to guess, I’d say he’s a big fan of the series. I can’t imagine how long it took to create these statues, which include the Licker, Tyrant, Iron Maiden, and RE4′s Chainsaw-wielding Ganado, among others.

In his words, “I did this Evil Dead oil painting back in 2005 and got it signed at the Horrorfind Weekend Convention by Bruce Campbell, Sarah York, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, Hal Delrich, and Tom Sullivan! They were all pretty impressed with it and had great comments for me, except Hal, who busted my chops saying I messed him all up (I think he was kidding?).

[BD Contest] Meet Our Second “Deadite Of The Day” Theodore Holmstead-Scott!!!

Did you miss our initial post on regarding the Deadite Of The Day contest? If not – don’t worry. We’re accepting submissions up until April 3rd at [email protected] (head inside for the full list of rules)! Winners will be announced daily from March 25th – April 5th (weekends excluded). Submissions will be open the whole time, so if you see something you think you can top… TOP IT!

Today’s winner is Theodore Holmstead-Scott, who is only 15 years old. He runs The House Of Marrow blog and has made a cool short, The Woods Themselves, expressly for this contest. In his own words, “I first saw the Evil Dead films around this time last year and immediately fell in love with them. When I saw the contest post on your site I immediately set to work. I built the prop (an ancient victim of the ‘angry molesting trees’) over the last week and filmed it in the woods on the weekend – it was pretty exhausting, but absolutely worth it. ‘The Evil Dead’ is one of my most favorite films, and also one that inspired me to get into filmmaking.

I really dig how Theodore’s short uses that low-roving camera angle, and that jump over the fallen tree near the end is what sealed the deal for me. That one moment captures the playful vibe of the original trilogy so well. Sadly, Theodore hails from Wellington, New Zealand. So if he wants to be eligible for the signed poster he needs to have someone in the US it can be mailed to. Though – again – we still have 8 more winners to announce who are also eligible. Head inside to check out his short (and some stills from it)! READ MORE

Submissions will be open the whole time, so if you see something you think you can top… TOP IT!

I figured I’d start this off with a bang and announce a winner with one of the most extensive collections of anything I’ve ever seen! His name is Sean Gooding (@GonzoSean on Twitter) and he also runs the site Deadites Online. In his own words, “Up until a few years ago I owned a very large Evil Dead Collection, these pictures were from the height of my collecting days, I still own the full Scale replica of Ash’s chainsaw from Evil Dead 2 and some boxed figures and Blu Rays.” He also included a sketch of Ash that he did that’s pretty badass too.

Sadly, Sean hails from the UK. So if he wants to be eligible for the signed poster he needs to have someone in the US it can be mailed to. Hopefully he does! Though – again – we still have 9 more winners to announce who are also eligible. Head inside to check out his awesome former collection of stuff! It’s f*cking AMAZING!!! You’ll also find the original rules for the contest below the picture gallery! READ MORE

You Won’t Believe This Horror Art Was Done In Under An Hour

Deviant Artist Thomas (or ThoRCX) is crazy good at speed paintings. If I was given 30-40 minutes to craft something in Photoshop, nothing I created would be anywhere near the quality of his work. I imagine it’d be made up of a lot of smiley faces, squiggly lines, and maybe a poorly drawn unicorn, depending on my mood. If you don’t think unicorns are scary, than you obviously haven’t met one. They’re terrifying.

Unfortunately, there are no unicorns in Thomas’s work. The only horned beast he has is a freaky devil looking thing. Check out his work after the jump!

Horror Photographer Joshua Hoffine Takes Pictures That Look Good Enough To Eat

Today we’re going to take a break from horror art so we can take a gander at something a little more real. Joshua Hoffine is a photographer with a unique eye for the macabre. His photos are equal parts beautiful and grotesque, and looking through his gallery I can’t help but get the feeling that he really hates kids. Me too. You can see some of his work after the jump. Apparently, you can take photos without awkwardly placed, blurry thumbs taking up half the picture. I learn something new every day.

I Can’t Tell If This Art Is Terrifying Or Bizarre, You Decide

I hope you’re ready for more horrifying art, because I found some that is deeply unsettling and I just couldn’t bare another minute without sharing it. If you aren’t ready than I’m about to go full parental figure on you and just shove it down your throat like a nasty, slimy vegetable. I won’t even give you the option of eating the vegetable or going to your room, you’re going to eat these goddamned vegetables because I work nine hours a day only to come home and slave away over a hot stove – er sorry, I got carried away. Enjoy more twisted art, this time courtesy of Deviant Artist FriendlyFish, after the jump. I’m going to take a nap.

This Freaky Art Is Like Getting A Human Anatomy Lesson From Clive Barker

For the most part, I just sort of glided through my high school career on a current of B’s. There were two classes that caused me quite a bit of trouble though, and they were math (ick) and biology. One day, while I’m daydreaming in the latter, the teacher tells us we’re going to be dissecting fetal pigs. Having been an avid horror movie fan since the ripe age of six, I figured a dead pig wouldn’t be a problem. “What’s that organ?” the teacher would ask me. “Why, that’s very obviously the spleen, as I saw it dug out of that screaming camper in Friday the 13th.” Then the class would cheer my name and I’d be popular forever. Of course, that’s not how it went down. Between the smell that erupted out of that foul creature after it was opened up and my alarming inability to tell one organ from the other, I failed.

What I’m trying to say is if you’re anything like me, then you probably need to brush up on your anatomy skills. Thankfully, artist CheeseLoueez has people like us in mind with his trippy art that covers organs, skeletal structure, and Isaac Clarke. Yeah, he’s there too.

This Is, Without Question, Some Of The Most Stunning Horror Art I’ve Ever Seen

I don’t consider myself to be particularly knowledgeable of the art scene. I visit the MOMA here in San Francisco every now and then, but I’ll never understand the “hidden message” behind a pyramid of jeans that had been spray-painted black, which I stumbled across a couple years ago. It fascinated me, and I’m fairly certain it was some sort of statement for anti-commercialism, but because one of the great things about art is you get to take from it as little or as much as you want, I prefer to think the artist just really hated skinny-jeans. Me too, I thought to myself as I turned my attention to an orange rectangle painted on a white canvas hanging on the nearby wall, wondering if that too had a deeper message.

All that is a long-winded way of saying the art I’m about to show you has no hidden messages. It just looks insanely cool. It’s the sort of thing I want on my wall, my phone, and as my laptop’s wallpaper, just to guarantee that I can spend as much time looking at it and absorbing it as I possibly can. This is the work of Deviant Artist Chris Cold, who I’ve followed for several years now. It’s beautiful, haunting art that’s hard to turn away from. Feast your eyes on it after the break.

Watch This Guy Transform A ‘Doom’ Screenshot Into A Work Of Art

Youtuber TJ Townsend has done what many would call the impossible. He took a screenshot from the original Doom game, with a resolution of 320×240, and used what I can only refer to as magic and wizardry to turn it into a 9600×7211 work of art. Sure, you can catch a glimpse of it above, but to really understand how much work was done to get to that, I highly recommend watching the very sped up process — the whole thing took him eight days to complete — after the jump.

[Random Cool] Isaac Clarke, Slenderman, And The Master Chief Go 8-Bit

Ever wonder what some of your favorite video game protagonists — or in the case of Slenderman, antagonists — would look like on an NES? Wonder no more, as Deviant Artist MelolzuGaming has taken it upon himself to answer that very own question. Among his gallery of 8-bitified video game characters are Isaac Clarke from Dead Space, Halo’s Master Chief, Street Fighter’s Ryu, a lone zombie, and Slenderman of… well, pretty much every indie horror game coming out in the near future, actually. I have only one complaint about the characters so far, but let’s take a look at them first before I get into that.

‘The Walking Dead’s’ Lee And Clementine Are Looking Serious On Game Informer’s December Cover

Seen on the gorgeous cover of Game Informer’s December issue is Lee and Clementine from Telltale Game’s amazing The Walking Dead. I’m glad they’re on there, looking understandably sullen, especially after the events that happened in the emotional finale. You know a game did something right when you can look back at it after finishing it and still get a little choked up. Or maybe I’m just a softie. Also on the cover are the Master Chief and Cortana from Halo 4, Dishonored’s Corvo, Mario, Darksiders II’s Death, Mass Effect 3′s Commander Shepard (bonus points for choosing female Shepard!), among others. I have a nice, big version too — check it out in all it’s high-resolution glory after the break.

[Random Cool] This Dude Paints With His Own Blood!

In comic books, we see a wide variety of art techniques, materials, and mediums. But we’ve never seen anything like this. New York City artist Vincent Castiglia has a special exhibition coming up at the Sacred Gallery from October 4th – 31st, simply titled “Resurrection”. Castiglia’s collection of work on display at the exhibition has been exclusively painted using his own blood. His paintings show the human body in all it’s intricacies, inside and out.

Castiglia says about “Ressurection”, “This exhibit is the culmination of a lifetime of searching and posing many questions through images, making declarations of truths uncovered and pouring a myriad of emotions, conflicts, and bliss’ into these coagulations which delineate all aspects of the past decade of my life.” Hit the jump for more information about the artist, the exhibition, and a gallery of his artwork. E3 2012: Say Hello To “Gears Of War: Judgement”

Just a few days back we broke wind of a new Gears Of War game to be announced at E3. Yes, broke wind. Well, Gears Of War: Judgement has been announced and it’s definitely not was I was expecting. I think most people looked at it as if it could be a prequel to the original series. Turns out, well, that’s pretty much the truth. However it doesn’t center around Marcus and Dom, but Baird and Cole. We can look forward to an epic back story coming to life and an all new multiplayer mode. Also, health grenades? Fuck yeah. Lots more past the break.

Altitude Director Captains Cabin Fever: Patient Zero Ship

THR is reporting out of EFm that comic book artist-turned-director Kaare Andrews (Altitude ) is in final negotiations to direct Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, a prequel being made by U.S. and Dominican Republic-based producer, financier and distributor Indomina Group.

Patient Zero will tell the origin of the flesh-eating virus that was unleashed in the 2002 original, directed by Eli Roth. Jake Wade Wall, who wrote the remake of The Hitcher, penned the script that “follows the passengers of a cruise ship in the Caribbean that runs aground a research island. They must find a way to survive before the disease consumes them.

The plan is to segue this film into a second sequel, Cabin Fever: Outbreak to be penned by Adam and Deborah Marcus. READ MORE

[EFM 12] International Sales Art For Cabin Fever: Patient Zero

One of the best independent films of the last decade is Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever, which ages like fine wine. With a sequel already in the books (Spring Fever was directed by Ti West and released in 2009), The Indomina Group announced back in October that they’ve landed franchise rights with plans on producing multiple films featuring more skin-rotting terror.

The Indomina Group has optioned the rights for two new Cabin Fever installments, which will be Cabin Fever: Patient Zero and Cabin Fever: Outbreak. The films will be shot back to back in the Dominican Republic in early Spring of 2012. Check out the EFM sales art for Patient Zero inside! READ MORE

[EFM '12] Fresh Still, Art For ‘Hamiltons’ Sequel, ‘The Thompsons’

[EFM 12] Fresh Still, Art For Hamiltons Sequel, The Thompsons

We’ve landed the first real still and EFM sales art for The Thompsons, the sequel to The Hamiltons.

The Butcher Brothers return to direct the vampire tale that stars Cory Knauf, Samuel Childs, Joseph McKelheer and Mackenzie Firgens.

In the sequel, a bloodbath at a gas station in the desert puts the family on the run, eventually seeing them resurface in the U.K. under a new identity as “The Thompsons.” Desperate for protection in this unfamiliar country, the Thompsons seek out the help of a shadowy underground rumored to be sympathetic to vampires.

The first film has not aged well, and I’m incredibly skeptical as to why a sequel was ever made. Your thoughts? READ MORE

[EFM '12] Sales Art For ‘Machete Kills’ Displays Danny Trejo’s Rustic Mug

[EFM 12] Sales Art For Machete Kills Displays Danny Trejos Rustic Mug

Just in time for EFM it was announced that Robert Rodriguez is teaming with producer Alexander Rodnyansky for the promised sequel to the 2010 action film Machete. Now that the Berlin market is in full gear, some early sales art has leaked online.

Titled Machete Kills (as teased in the closing credits of the first Machete), the film is the second in a planned trilogy. Danny Trejo returns as the title character. Ethan Maniquis co-directed the first film that starred Trejo as Machete is a Mexican, an ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, and is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

Rodriguez also teased that the third entry will be titled Machete Kills Again… In Space!. READ MORE
