[Awesome] The Periodic Table Of Metal

For all you fans of science and elements who just so happen to enjoy the heavier side of music, have I got a treat for you! Below is the Periodic Table Of Metal which, while incomplete, still represents a good chunk of the metal genre, from classic artists such as Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Queen to extremes like Bathory, Deicide, and At The Gates.

I think that were I to put all the elements that make me up, it’d be nearly the whole table. But picking a few, I’d say I’m At, If, Q, RM, An, Nw, Pl, Op, Dt, Sx, Ra, Pa, Mt, and R. Which elements are you?

Gotta give thanks to my friend James for sharing this with me. He is working on a sitcom called Managing. Check out more info here. READ MORE

[OMFG] Guy Does Awesome Mashup Of Super Meat Boy Tunes

One of the most entertaining, violent, and quirky XBLA games to come out in 2010 was Super Meat Boy, which followed the adventures of the title character as he tried to rescue his girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from the clutches of the evil Dr. Fetus. Aural Pleasures co-host Bill Frye is a huge fan of the game and I’ve many side-splitting laughter moments watching him struggle through some of the later levels.

Well, turns out there are other rabid fans of the game on the Internet. YouTube user FamilyJules7x has put together a pretty badass mashup of several of the game’s tunes. You can check out the video below and then download the MP3 FOR FREE here. READ MORE

[OMFG] This Alien-Inspired Guitar Is Way Too Awesome To Handle

I’ve been playing guitar for about 14 years now and I’m a sucker for guitar porn. Looking at guitars can make me get a little antsy in my pantsy, if you know what I mean. But in all seriousness, I’m a huge fan of custom guitars, both in terms of hardware as much as in artistic creation. My interest stems from me taking my first guitar, a ’97 Epiphone Special 1 (back when that model was a solid guitar), and completely redoing all the hardware. Actually, I might show you that one day.

But moving to the article, below you’ll find pictures of a guitar (what looks like an Ibanez) that Gig Goldstein has carved into an astonishing homage to H.R. Giger and the Xenomorphs from aliens. Even the volume and tone knobs are unique (they’re little egg sacs). Overall, it’s an awesome guitar and I would give quite a bit to rock that bad boy on a regular basis. Check below for quotes from Gig and pictures of the guitar. READ MORE

Here Is What It Would Be Like To Serve On The Devil’s Chain Gang

bloodyjugband2012 Here Is What It Would Be Like To Serve On The Devils Chain Gang
In an homage to classic silent films, The Bloody Jug Band has released a video for Chained To The Bottom. Produced by Bloody-Disgusting’s own Tim Anderson, directed by Steven Shea (Hoodoo for Voodoo, Doomsday County, 2:22) and starring J. LaRose (Saw III, Repo: The Genetic Opera, Insidious), the video shows the tough life of those who are sentenced to eternity on the Devil’s chain gang.
This isn’t music that I normally fall back to but damn, this is a great song! I’ve already listened to it about four times and I plan on doubling that by the end of the day. Oh, funny fact: the one-string bass player could very well be a doppelgänger for Aural Pleasure co-host Bill Frye. Check out the video below.

[OMFG] What 16-Bit Video Game Music Would Sound Like If It Had More Metal

skysanctuaryinsertcoinscover [OMFG] What 16 Bit Video Game Music Would Sound Like If It Had More Metal
Oh Facebook, you can turn me on to some of the most amazing things. The wonders of the Internet have shared with me Sky Sanctuary and their album Insert Coins. Basically it sounds like 16-bit Sega/SNES music mixed with progressive metal and it kicks massive amounts of ass. I guarantee that if this were the background music for Sonic The Hedgehog 2, I probably would’ve broken a controller or two….or ten.

Mastodon, Opeth, Ghost Teaming Up For N. American Tour

In a recent interview with Studio Brussel, bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders of Mastodon confirmed a N. American tour with Swedish prog metal band Opeth and Swedish NWOBHM band Ghost. When asked about the future plans for the band, Sanders replied, “We go to Australia take part in the Soundwave Festival, which is going to be lovely… Take a short break. Do a North American tour with Opeth and Ghost.” As of now, no tour dates have been confirmed. Below are some videos you can check out to see how perfectly everything goes together.

Okay, my mind is blown. This might be one of the best lineups I’ve seen in a LONG time. Each of these bands has incredible music and the thought of getting to check out Ghost on the big stage is unreal. This is one of those shows that I’ll come to early, make sure I get a great view, and then I won’t move for the rest of the show. Beer server! Bring me more ale!

Tom Jane, James Marsden And Billy Bob Thornton Fight ‘Red Machine’!

RedMachine11912 Tom Jane, James Marsden And Billy Bob Thornton Fight Red Machine!

Back in October of 2010 we reported that Saw V director David Hackl had been lined up to direct Jack Reher’s spec script Red Machine.

We’re now finally hearing some more concrete news on the project. Per Variety, “Fully financed pic centers around two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends. Once in the remote wilderness, however, things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear — the Red Machine. Thornton will play a legendary bear expert and hunter.

While I haven’t seen Saw V, and I’m not really the biggest fan of that franchise’s aesthetic, this movie sounds like it could actually be ridiculously fun! I’m kind of excited!

Below the jump I’ve included the original 2010 sales art so you can behold its awesome tagline. Sadly, I believe Bart the Bear is unavailable. READ MORE

Lamb Of God Releases Badass Animated Video For ‘Ghost Walking’

loggwanimatedvideo Lamb Of God Releases Badass Animated Video For Ghost Walking
Lamb Of God has released an official video for their current single Ghost Walking. Wanna know the best part? It’s animated. Thank god for a video where it’s not just shots of the band playing! That has been overdone for f*@king YEARS now! Unless the band is playing in the middle of Times Square or rocking out next to an active volcano, I immediately have no interest in seeing your video. Gimme a story that the music represents, or at least something that goes along well with the music. And that’s precisely what LoG just did. Bunch o’ badasses. Check out the video below.
Lamb Of God’s new album, Resolution, will be coming out next Tuesday, Jan. 24th, 2012.

[LOL] Slayer’s Rider For Concerts

Whether or not it’s real, this is one of the greatest riders I’ve ever read. For those of you who don’t know, riders are the necessities that bands require when performing. It can range from specific foods to more, outlandish options. So, below, you can check out Slayer‘s rider, which shows the band asking for such items as “50,000 live bees for Dave”, “Whetstone for battle axes”, and many more. It’s well worth checking out if you’re in need of a good laugh. READ MORE

Tim Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater Looks Awesome!

Alright Rancid fans, here is something you NEED to pay attention to! Tim Armstrong is going to be premiering Tim Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater on VEVO tomorrow and you should definitely tune in! The first scripted program on VEVO, RockNRoll Theater will be an episodic series much in the vein of The Twilight Zone with Tim Armstrong narrating (think of him as a Rod Serling-esque kinda guy). However, not content to leave it at just that, the series will also feature dance numbers and musical performances, all written by Armstrong (think Glee only not lame). The pilot episode is a 21st century take on Dante’s Inferno and features Davey Havok (AFI) and Lars Frederiksen (Rancid).

After the jump you can check out a really entertaining trailer as well as download a song for free!

[LOL] Let’s Start This Week With ‘Meshuggah Dog’, Shall We?

I said it almost a year ago: animals can be amazing metal singers! And yet another amazing example has come to my attention. Sure I already mentioned dogs in my article but this fella deserves a special shout out. After the jump, you can watch a dog lose its damn mind when being shot at with a water pistol. Add in some Meshuggah into the background and the stage is set for some hilarity.

Start your Monday off with a mixture of animals and metal. Because honestly, is there any other way you’d rather start it off?

Devin Townsend Just Rode A Train Through Hell

Devin Townsend has just released a video for Juular, which comes off Deconstruction, the third in the Devin Townsend Project quadrilogy. The video shows Devin hopping onto a train that looks very much like the one in Alice: Madness Returns (no, seriously, check it out here) and dealing with a very upset older gentleman who apparently has the lungs of an ox. Oh, and make sure to keep an eye out for a special cameo appearance of Ziltoid!

[OMFG] Boy Fights Nightmare After Nightmare

Movies like The Goonies and Monster Squad will always have a special place in my heart. They show children rising up and facing their fears head on, determined to make it through their journey and emerge, grown and hardened, out the other side. That’s why I really resonated with the new music video, Boogie Man, from Grieves. It shows a boy arming himself with bubble wrap armor, a pot helmet, and a toy boy and arrow. He then proceeds to face some admittedly creepy nightmarish creatures. The music actually really works super well for this video and I’m not normally a guy who is into much hip hop.

All that being said, I highly recommend you check out the video after the jump and remember the days of your youth when you were ready to face anything.

OMFG Of The Day: Urkel Is A Lady Killer? When Did That Happen?!?

Okay, so this isn’t metal but it’s damn catchy and super awesome. Cee Lo Green, whose video for F*ck You went viral (and is awesome), has released a new video entitled Cry Baby. The best part? Jaleel White, best known as Urkel on Family Matters, is the main character and busts out some awesome dance moves and is basically the type of man I wish I would’ve grown up to be.

Warning: The video, which is after the jump, is bound to get stuck in your head.

VNV Nation To Release ‘Automatic’ This Fall: Full US Tour Confirmed

One of the first video interviews I conducted for Bloody-Disgusting was VNV Nation at the Necto in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Having already been a fan for years, I was beyond excited to finally meet Ronan Harris and have a chat with him. So, hearing that there is a new album coming out this fall is like having Barry White sex my ears up with his velvety voice. I’m already getting all warm and gooey inside thinking of all the good times I can have with this album. Hell, I remember getting lucky to some VNV tracks once! Don’t believe me? Neither did she, but that’s because she kept asking, “Is it in yet?” Look, it’s not the size of the boat, it’s the motion of the ocean, okay? I’m gonna go cry now…

Check Out A Previously Unreleased Track Featuring Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell and Phil Anselmo With Sean Yseult Of White Zombie

One of the coolest rock stars I have ever met in my life was Dimebag Darrell (Pantera, Damageplan). Seriously, that guy was one of the funniest, most genuine guys I’ve ever hung out with and I’ve probably never been as drunk as when I was hanging out with the Damageplan guys. I’ve always regretted never having been able to make it to one of the infamous Pantera/White Zombie tours because, let’s be honest here, that sounds so f*cking awesome! Rumors are that the balcony at the State Theater in Detroit was moving up and down nearly three feet from all the craziness. Possible lawsuit waiting to happen? Maybe. Awesome time for all? Most certainly.
