2013 is primed to be one of the best years in horror – and thanks to Lionsgate we’ll be heading into the Halloween season with the beloved festival slasher You’re Next (read our review), which takes an ax to theaters on August 23. The Toronto International Film Festival smash hit blew the minds of the Midnight Madness audience, as well as this month’s SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Good luck finding a negative review.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, the duo best known for A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S and the forthcoming V/H/S/2, “You’re Next is one of the smartest and most terrifying films in years, one that reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped…until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

Bloody Disgusting is excited to exclusively premiere one of three You’re Next teaser posters. It displays one of the film’s “animals”, as well as the tagline: “Did you remember to lock your door?” It’s an astoundingly artistic one-sheet that’s both haunting and beautiful. It’ll definitely grab people’s eyes as they’re walking through a theater lobby…

Still, the best part of the slasher is that it boasts an astounding cast that includes Sharni Vinson (the upcoming Patrick remake), Nick Tucci (Choose, Undocumented), Wendy Glenn (11-11-11), AJ Bowen (A Horrible Way to Die, The House of the Devil, The Signal), Joe Swanberg (A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S), Margaret Laney, Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way to Die), Ti West (The Roost, The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers), Calvin Reeder (V/H/S, The Rambler), Larry Fessenden (Habit, The Last Winter), Kate Lyn Sheil (V/H/S), Barbara Crampton (80′s fav who starred in Re-Animator, From Beyond and Castle Freak) and Rob Moran. [SXSW '13 Interview] Director Adam Wingard On Making 'You're Next' And His Plans For 'The Guest' And 'Dead Spy Running'!

Lionsgate’s You’re Next screened over the weekend to a packed crowd at this year’s SXSW Festival and, after 18 months of praise, everyone seemed to agree that the film lived up to the hype. One of the reasons behind the film’s creative success is Adam Wingard‘s incredibly assured hand as a director. I’ve always been fond of his work, but You’re Next is unlike anything else currently on his resume – a taut, crowd-pleasing horror film that has a uniquely addictive energy. I sat down with him after the screening to talk about the film’s violence and his approach towards making it feel huge.

In the film directed by Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, (A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S,V/H/S/2), “One of the smartest and most terrifying films in years, the film reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. [SXSW '13 Interview] Sharni Vinson On The Late Nights Of 'You're Next'!

Lionsgate’s You’re Next screened over the weekend to a packed crowd at this year’s SXSW Festival. While it was my third time seeing the film (which gets better with every viewing), it was the first time I’d seen it with a big audience and I wasn’t anticipating just how much of a crowd pleaser it would actually be. One of the most important components to that success is the performance Sharni Vinson delivers as Erin, the highly capable protagonist. I sat down with her the morning after the screening to talk about her role and the fact that she flourished during a shoot that many found exhausting.

In the film directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, (A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S,V/H/S/2), “One of the smartest and most terrifying films in years, the film reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. 'The Lords Of Salem' Gets A Release Date And A Novelization!!

Anchor Bay Films will be releasing Rob Zombie‚Äôs The Lords Of Salem on April 26th, 2013. This comes along with the news that the film will be receiving a novelization co-written by Zombie and B.K. Evenson that hits on March 12th, 2013 – just in time to spoil yourselves a month ahead of time like you did back in ’89 with the Batman novelization.

The book has a new, more detailed synopsis. “Heidi Hawthorne is a thirty-seven-year-old FM radio DJ and a recovering drug addict. Struggling with her newfound sobriety and creeping depression, Heidi suddenly receives an anonymous gift at the station-a mysteriously shaped wooden box branded with a strange symbol. Inside the box is a promotional record for a band that identifies themselves only as The Lords. There is no other information. She decides to play it on the radio show as a joke, and the moment she does, horrible things begin to happen. The strange music awakens something evil in the town. Soon enough, terrifying murders begin to happen all around Heidi. Who are The Lords? What do they want?

Written and directed by Rob Zombie, The Lords of Salem stars Sheri Moon Zombie (House of 1,000 Corpses, Halloween) as well as Bruce Davison (X-Men), Jeff Daniel Phillips (Halloween 2), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), Patricia Quinn (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Dee Wallace (E.T.) and Judy Geeson (To Sir, With Love).

Lionsgate Schedules Hotly Anticipated 'You're Next' For August 2013

Well, that took awhile. After scooping up the film at the 2011 TIFF, Lionsgate has been sitting on You’re Next, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s incredible home invasion slasher that stars Sharni Vinson, Nick Tucci, Wendy Glenn, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Margaret Laney, Amy Seimetz, Ti West, Calvin Reeder, Larry Fessenden, Kate Lyn Sheil, Barbara Crampton and Rob Moran. Presumably, the issue of releasing arose when Lionsgate acquired Summit, leaving few slots for their upcoming horror releases. Now, a year after being sold in a massive bidding war, Collider reports that the Gate will now release in theaters on August 23, 2013.

In the film, which received rave reviews (read mine here), “A family comes under a terrifying and sadistic attack during a reunion getaway. Barricaded in their secluded country home, they have to fight off a barrage of axes, crossbows and machetes from both inside and outside the house. Unfortunately for the killers, one of the victims proves to have a talent for fighting back.

Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett also collaborated on V/H/S, which is now available On Demand, as well as A Horrible Way To Die. READ MORE

Rob Zombie Snags '80s Legend for 'Lords of Salem'

’80s genre star Barbara Crampton – known for roles in Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak, Puppet Master and even Chopping Mall – has landed a role in The Lords of Salem, Rob Zombie’s small-town horror film that’s currently lensing for a release in 2012.

Crampton, who also plays a large role in the festival smash hit You’re Next (which rejuvenated her acting “bug” once again), will play “Virginia Cable”, a camera operator for a local kid’s show at Salem Public Access TV called “Lobster Joe’s Fishy Fun Show”.

She joins the previous announced Meg Foster, Ernest Thomas, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Torsten Voges, Bruce Dern, Sheri Moon Zombie, Dee Wallace, Billy Drago, Richard Lynch, Lisa Marie, Maria Conchita Alonso and Ken Foree.

The story is about a local DJ who mistakenly unleashes a hellish curse on the town. 300 years earlier on the very streets of Salem that the townspeople walk on today, innocent folks were rounded up from their homes, convicted of being witches and sentenced to death. The Lords of Salem ran the town with an iron fist, but four witches who were tortured and killed in secrecy vowed that one day they would be back for revenge.
