Baroness Return To The Road: Announce New Members

Last year, Southern sludge rockers Baroness went through a terrifying and injurious bus accident that saw each band member hurt. Since then bassist Matt Maggioni and drummer Allen Blickle have left the band, which singer/guitarist John Baizley says was part of an amicable split.

But now the boys are back and are ready to hit the road. In a candid video statement, Baizely and guitarist Pete Adams speak about their focus and their eagerness to embark on a tour. They also announce that they are welcoming bassist Nick Jost and drummer Sebastian Thomson to the group.

Adams states, “It’s hard to find the words to express how excited we are to announce this tour. Seven months ago, who knew when it would be or even if we could get back on the road. But here we are, picking right back up where we left off. A heartfelt thanks to everyone’s unconditional love and support for us through, let’s hope, the hardest time this band will ever see. We told you we’d be back so let’s do this thing!

All tour dates, as well as the video, can be watched below. READ MORE

Bus Driver Faces Chargers For Baroness Crash

In mid 2012, Southern sludge rockers Baroness were involved in a very serious bus accident while touring in the UK in support of their latest album Yellow & Green. A total of nine people were injured, including three members of Baroness. Singer/guitarist John Baizley suffered a broken arm and a broken leg.

The accident was caused when the bus fell 30ft from a viaduct, crashing into trees and brush. The weather conditions were apparently dreadful at the time of the crash, including “torrential rain” and it being “quite windy”.

Now, BBC is reporting that the driver, 39-year old Norman Markus, will be charged for the accident. He is facing charges of “…using a vehicle with defective brakes and breaching a 7.5 tonne weight limit. Mr Markus is also facing charges of insufficient daily and weekly rest periods and using a vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury.

We’ll report more on this as news breaks. READ MORE

[Exclusive] Dive Into The Occult In This Coliseum “Black Magic Punks” Music Video Premiere

Bloody-Disgusting is excited to bring you the exclusive music video premiere for Coliseum‘s “Black Magic Punks”, which comes off their upcoming album Sister Faith. The video is full of occult imagery and uses vivid colors similar to the style of Dario Argento. You can watch this exclusive premiere below.

John Baizley of Baroness recently wrote, “Musical progression tends to come at the expense of quality or ethics, and Coliseum have sacrificed neither. Though punk-rock may have been the template (and paradigms DO shift), songwriting and emotional content have become Coliseums focus, and to that end they have gracefully transitioned from the unrelenting anger, rage, and rawness of youth to a more thought-provoking, yet no-less-powerful or insightful sound that is entirely their own.

Sister Faith comes out Apr. 30th via Temporary Residence LTD. A North American tour is in plans for May/June. READ MORE

Let’s Talk The Grammy 2013 Rock Nominations, Shall We?

The official 2013 Grammy nominations list has been released and, as per usual, it takes the opportunity to laud and celebrate what the radios and mass media have been shoving down our throats for the past year (thank god we can use mp3 players and dictate what we want to listen to, right?). Now, I basically just completely ignored the vast majority of categories and immediately scanned down to find the four categories that interested me: Best Rock Performance, Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. And what I found was pretty…well, it was pretty confusing. READ MORE

2012 BLACK FRIDAY CHOPPING LIST: MUSIC

Yep! It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving is on Thursday, which means dutiful consumers are already preparing for the Holiday Shopping Season. If you think you’re exempt from that, think again. Either you know a fellow horror fan (or family member) in need, or you want something for yourself! You can take this as advice for what to buy, or what to ask for.

So we’re kicking things off this year with our music list! I know a lot of you folks are into metal, and we’ve got plenty of that. But we’ve also got a few surprises tucked in there as well! Extra thanks to Jonathan Barkan for his suggestions, they’re designated as “JB”.

Btw, I’ve mainly included iTunes links – they have a “gift” option – to these releases. Even though I prefer discs, I realize I’m a relic so I’m saving links to physical products for the special Box Sets where it’s really worth it to go whole-hog and impress someone special. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

Members And Crew Of Baroness Injured In Bus Accident

Nine members and crew of Southern prog rock band Baroness were injured when their tour bus fell 30ft near Bath, England. Two of the victims were trapped and had to be rescued by firefighters. These two suffered multiple fractures. The other seven sustained minor injuries and are being treated at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. There is no word yet as to who specifically was injured.

Apparently there was very heavy rain and reduced visibility at the time of the crash. Conditions were so bad that air ambulances were unable to land.

The band’s tour promoter stated, “It is with great regret that we have to inform you that Baroness were involved in a very serious road accident earlier today and will not be able to perform at Talking Heads tonight. [Album Review] Baroness ‘Yellow & Green’

Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, Baroness is a four-piece group that plays a mixture of sludge and melodic metal with traces of prog and a sprinkle of punk. With elements of these genres, you KNOW that I was intrigued to listen to their latest offering. After all, they’ve toured with Metallica, Opeth, Clutch, Mastodon, and many more influential, fantastic artists. Add to this the fact that both Red and Blue are fascinating, incredible albums, and I was all set to sit back and delve into the two-disc set that is Yellow & Green. So, was I satisfied or left wanting? READ MORE

Baroness Announce New Album ‘Yellow & Green’

Progressive sludge metal band Baroness have announced that their newest album, Yellow & Green, will be coming out July 17th via Relapse Records. This release sees the band reteaming with Blue Record producer John Congleton (Explosions In the Sky) and was recorded over nearly the entirety of 2011. The album will be a 2CD/LP release.

Front man John Baizley states, “We had been on tour for eight years, and we decided to take a break from our adventure to dig our heels in at home and write a new record. We spent the entirety of the past year dedicating ourselves to the new album. Without the break from touring and the time we took to rest and reflect, we would have been entirely unable to write this new record. We have become re-inspired. Now it’s time to get back out on the road.”

The band will be joining Meshuggah for a month-long US tour starting April 29th. READ MORE

Meshuggah Announces Tour With Baroness And Decapitated

Is this year shaping up for some awesome tours or what? There’s already the Heritage Hunter Tour and now we’ve got The Ophidian Trek Tour, which has Baroness and Decapitated supporting headlining act Meshuggah! You bet your ass I’ll be at St. Andrews Hall on May 16th. If they play Bleed or Pulling Straws At Random, I might end up in the middle of the pit with a thirst for blood. Or the more likely scenario will be me looking rather silly as I headbang far too wildly. Yup, that’s what’s going to happen.
Meshuggah has also announced a new album, Koloss. Full details for that album can be found here. Tour dates for The Ophidian Trek Tour are below.
