The 15 Scariest Moments in Non-Horror Games

Terrifying moments aren’t just limited to horror games; even the most innocent and huggable of children’s titles can house within it a level filled with twisted mockeries of sanity that bring us to the brink of madness before killing us and forcing us to start over again. What makes these levels all the more frightening is their sudden appearance, in a game we would’ve never expected such an experience.

Headlines in Horror: F.E.A.R., er, F.3.A.R.! Doom 4! Zombies vs. Guitars! Big/Sad/Awesome L4D News!

It’s good to be a horror fan, or what I like to affectionately refer to as Thrill Enthusiasts. Someone might hear that term for the first time and think of something else, since at first a Thrill Enthusiast sounds like someone who enjoys getting their crazy on by tempting death through various scenarios like skydiving, spelunking, or base jumping. They would be incorrect in that assumption, unless you’re the rare type of individual who enjoys horror media and terrifying, Oh-God-Please-Please-Don’t-Fail-Mr.-Parachute activities. If you happen to fall under the latter category I commend you sir (or ma’am), as you are a borderline superhero.

But I digress, something I find myself doing more and more often lately. It’s almost gotten to the point where I need to hire someone to follow me with a buzzer, monitoring my level of alertness and… on-topic-ness. Of course, paying someone to do such a task would be a problem, and finding a talented soul with the patience to really follow through would most likely prove even more difficult. Wait, I just did it again. Just click the Read More button before my compulsive rambling gets the better of me. READ MORE

The Best Horror Game Of 2009, Voted By You!

Back again just like the past 2 years, and like always I want to know what YOU thought was the best horror game of 2009. Last year was a good race, and Dead Space narrowly beat out Left 4 Dead for the win. I could post a top 10 of my favorite horror games of last year, but I like it better when you guys do the work for me.

gameof2009 The Best Horror Game Of 2009, Voted By You!

And now for my wonderous disclaimer. The games on this list are that that would reflect anything horror, sci-fi, bloody and or disgusting, gory, thrillerish, creepy, aliens, ghosts, zombies, vampires, plain old really weird stuff, stuff that is outside of “normal”, there are no Mario’s in this list, no Call Of Duty’s, these are the games people cringe at. The games some people are too scared to play. The games parents don’t want their kids playing. The games that we love here on BD.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Villains Trailer

What really makes Batman Arkham Asylum stand out from other Batman games, and even the movies, is that in this game, it’s Batman vs almost all of his main enemies. As he remains trapped in Arkham, and is pitted against such greats as The Joker, Bane, Poison Ivy, and more. Though we haven’t seen anything on a few huge enemies like Mr Freeze, Scarecrow, Two Face, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if there we’re a few tricks left up Eidos’s sleeves. Earlier pictures do show The Riddler’s cell, but no sign of him.

Batman Arkham Asylum will be released on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 on August 25th. READ MORE

Batman: Arkham Asylum Spotlight: Killer Croc

Born with a rare mutation that made his skin green and scaly, and grew his body to grotesque proportions, Waylon Jones was raised by an alcoholic aunt and bullied relentlessly for his appearance. He briefly worked as a carnival freak under the name Killer Croc, but his misanthropy grew as did his bestial nature, pushing him to a life of crime. As his physical condition and mental state deteriorate, Killer Croc becomes a more bestial foe, increasingly detached from humanity.

Batman Arkham Asylum Spotlight: The Joker

The Joker. The most well known of all the enemies Batman goes up against. Even more familiar is Mark Hamill voicing him. An insanely homicidal super-villain, the Joker’s white skin, green hair, and blood-red lips belie the chaotic nature underlying his cartoonish appearance. The self-styled Clown Prince of Crime has no superpowers, beyond a capacity for incredible violence and a skill at creating deadly mayhem. He frequently concocts elaborate schemes to entrap his arch nemesis, Batman.

Batman Arkham Asylum, Delayed :(

Perhaps the Joker has won this time. As I read on 1up Batman Arkham Asylum has been delayed. Originally looking at a June 23rd release date, Eidos and Warner Bros Interactive have said the game will be released by the end of the summer, and fall officially begins September 22nd.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Meets Batman The Animated Series?

Exciting news about the highly anticipated Batman Arkham Asylum game, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will be doing the voices for Batman, and the Joker in the upcoming video game! I couldn’t think of 2 more perfect voices for the job. Kevin Conroy has been doing the voice of Batman in many animated Batman films and and in the animated series for over 15 years. And Mark Hamill of course from Star Wars, and has also lent his voice to Avatar, Metalocalypse, and about a million other animated cartoons, will be doing the voice of the Joker.

The story for Batman was written by Paul Dini, who wrote for the amazing animated series. He has also won 5 Emmys. This game keeps sounding better and better. All the pieces are in place, hopefully the gameplay will be as good as everything else. The game is to be released on the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 in the summer of 2009. READ MORE
