Metallica Announces Lineup For Detroit Orion Music + More Festival

Metallica have released a YouTube video that details all that will be seen at the 2013 edition of the annual Orion Music + More Festival, which takes place this year at Belle Isle in Detroit on June 8th and 9th. The festival will see such acts as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Bassnectar, Tomahawk, Gogol Bordello, Battlecross, and many more.

Detroit will see the return of James Hetfield’s Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett’s Crypt, Lars Ulrich’s Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo’s Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and many other fan favorite attractions.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich comments, “Last year’s Orion Music + More Festival was hands down the highlight of the Metallica calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members. The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in ’13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train. Bring it the fuck on!”

Metal Blade Records Celebrates 30th Anniversary By Offering Free Music

It’s hard to believe that Metal Blade Records has been around for 30 years but here they are, still rocking and bringing some of the very best metal to fans ears. To celebrate this occasion, Metal Blade teamed up with Scion A/V to bring a free showcase concert with performances from Six Feet Under, Cattle Decapitation, Battlecross, Gypsyhawk, and Pilgrim. While there, Scion A/V conducted interviews with each band as well as recorded the showcase to release a 7″ featuring a track from both Gypsyhawk and Pilgrim. You can download the 7″ below and head on over here to see some awesome interviews.

I look back at Metal Blade and, while I’ve enjoyed some of their more recent years, I cannot thank them enough for introducing me to bands like GWAR, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, Battlecross, Mercyful Fate, and so many, many more. Metal Blade is one of those labels that didn’t just release music, they helped shaped the very foundation of metal would become.

And so I raise my official Metal Blade pint glass and say, “Congratulations Metal Blade on making it to 30 years. Here’s to another 30 of you kicking asses all over the place!” READ MORE

Five Finger Death Punch Fights Suicide In New Video For “Coming Down”

Five Finger Death Punch just released a video for “Coming Down”, which comes off their latest album American Capitalist (review). The video shows two teens, horribly bullied (both in real life and in the cyber world), who fight the urge to take their own lives. You can watch the video below.

Guitarist Zoltan Bathory (interview) explains, “Through support and awareness, suicide can be prevented. Five Finger Death Punch is promoting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to build awareness that there is support out there for those in need through the Lifeline’s service, and others. This is an important initiative we have taken on to place it on the consciousness of the public that you are not alone when in need.”

The band will also be embarking on the Trespass America tour with Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Pop Evil, Emmure, God Forbid, and Battlecross. One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to provide for the National Suicide Hotline crisis call centers. Tour dates are below. READ MORE

Dave McGraw From Cattle Decapitation Gets Pierced On The Road

Disclaimer: I’m friends with Pangea Piercing but Bloody-Disgusting is in no way involved or connected with them.

It’s harder to get more metal on the road than actually getting metal put in your face WHILE on the road, am I right? Well, Dave McGraw, drummer of deathgrind band Cattle Decapitation, seemed to think the exact same thing. Making a quick stop while on tour with Origin, Battlecross, Rings Of Saturn, Decrepit Birth, and Aborted, Dave went ahead and got his nose pierced at Pangea Piercing in Ann Arbor, MI at the Detroit tour stop. Check out the awesome video below! READ MORE

Five Finger Death Punch Set To Headline Trespass America Festival

Battlecross, God Forbid, Emmure, Trivium, Pop Evil, Killswitch Engage, Five Finger Death Punch. That is quite an impressive lineup for the inaugural year of the Trespass America music festival! Sponsored by Metal Hammer magazine, the tour will start in mid July and run through until the end of August, hitting many of the major spots while still stopping by a few of the more “out of the way” destinations.

Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory states, “We will carry the flag into mainstream territory; we will trespass on their turf all across America. The combined power of Metal Hammer and all these bands enable us to make a statement, a really loud one. Heavy music wants its place back in the limelight, so get ready, because we are coming, and we are coming in numbers.”

Battlecross Release Debut Music Video For ‘Pull, Push, Destroy’

Detroit, MI heavy metal newcomers Battlecross are making huge waves with their debut album, Pursuit Of Honor, which comes out tomorrow via Metal Blade Records. We were stoked to premiere the exclusive stream of Man Of Stone which kicked my teeth in thanks to it’s mix of brutal thrash and melodic metal. Now the guys have released a video for Push, Pull, Destroy, which was filmed super close to where I live at the historic Willow Run Airport.

For those of you who are into aviation history, this video has a special appearance by the Yankee Lady, one of ten surviving flyable B-17 bombers. This appearance is made all the more powerful and significant because a day before the shoot, the Liberty Belle, another B-17 bomber, crash landed in Chicago, IL. All crew members were able to safely exit the plane before the fire engulfed the entire cabin.
Check out the video after the jump and be prepared as I’m calling it right now: Battlecross are going to become huge.
