[Video Interview] The Cast Of ‘The Possession’ Talks Portraying A Broken Family And Their Most Intense Moments On Set

On Friday, August 31st Lionsgate will open their haunted dibbuk box when they release The Possession, the Sam Raimi/Ghost House Pictures produced supernatural chiller, in theaters everywhere. Directed by Ole Bornedal, the film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick and Natasha Calis as a broken family that has a lot more than divorce to contend with when Calis’ character, “Em”, is possessed by a demon.

I recently sat down with the cast to talk about how they conveyed their shattered family dynamic and what parts of the film’s final, intense, moments proved difficult to film. Calis and Morgan also spoke about how they were able to craft one of the film’s most upsetting moments.

The film, “is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

In the film, “When frightening events start to occur in their home, young couple Kelly (Ashley Greene) and Ben (Sebastian Stan) discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment. We’ve also got a bead on a new character, Milton, to be played by Dallas Roberts. Per Robert Kirkman, ““Milton is the details guy. [Video Interview] The Women Of ‘Killer Joe’: Gina Gershon And Juno Temple

LD Entertainment will soon release Killer Joe, which is directed by the man behind The Exorcist and To Live And Die In LA – William Friedkin. This may not sound like a horror film to you – but it is indeed bloody and disgusting. It’s also very entertaining. Last week I posted my video interviews with Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch, and today I’m sharing my chat with Gina Gershon and Juno Temple.

We talk about working with Friedkin and what – if anything – gave them pause about tackling the intense NC-17 movie.

When 22-year-old Chris (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in debt to a drug lord, he hires a hit man to dispatch his mother, whose $50,000 life insurance policy benefits his sister Dottie (Juno Temple). Chris finds Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a creepy, crazy Dallas cop who moonlights as a contract killer. When Chris can’t pay Joe upfront, Joe sets his sight on Dottie as collateral for the job. The contract killer and his hostage develop an unusual bond. Like from a modern-day, twisted fairy tale, “Killer Joe” Cooper becomes the prince to Dottie’s Cinderella.” The film also stars Matthew McConaughey, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon. It’s based on the play by Pulitzer and Tony Award winner Tracy Letts.

Killer Joe opened in NY on July 27th and hits Los Angeles, Chicago and various other cities (check your local listings) this Friday, August 3rd. Head inside for the interview. READ MORE

Oh Come On! Yet Another ‘Paranormal Activity 4′ Teaser Trailer!!

Just this morning we posted the second teaser trailer for Paranormal Activity 4, which marks the return of Paranormal Activity 3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

And now we have a third teaser trailer. I guess at this point it doesn’t even bear repeating that it’s become par for the course to have several teaser trailers leading up to the actual trailer. Some people are examining this stuff frame by frame, studying the new blonde character. I have no idea why. The full trailer hits tomorrow morning – I’m sure that will have more info.

Joost and Schulman co-directed Catfish independently before it was acquired by Universal. PA 3 has made over $200 million at the box office worldwide, while the entire Paranormal Activity franchise has pulled in approximately $577 worldwide at the box office alone making it a near billion dollar franchise (when you include home video).

Paramount releases PA4 on October 19, 2012. Again, the full trailer hits Tomorrow, August 1st. Head inside for the teaser. Also – are teasers for trailers worth it? Let us know. READ MORE

[Fantasia '12] Exclusive Teaser For ‘Hemorrhage’ Has Voices In Its Head

Hemorrhage, from first-time Edmonton, Alberta writer-director Braden Croft, is a serial killer thriller fusing a twisty road movie structure to an unsettling descent – or rather freefall. The film is playing the the ongoing Fantasia Film Festival and we’ve landed an exclusive teaser!

In the film, “After six years in a mental institution, young murderer Oliver Lorenz is deemed safe to reenter society. In many ways living in the shadow of his father — an eminent doctor specializing in frontal lobotomies — Oliver is an extremely gifted young man yet painfully and uncontrollably crushed by his condition, which impedes any normal social interaction. Keeping his psychopathic and schizophrenic urges at bay, Oliver seems to be doing fine. There’s the occasional hiccup, but nothing that can’t be controlled with copious amounts of medication and a little bit of counseling. Soon enough, Oliver is assigned a job as a janitor at an abortion clinic. Fate intervenes, unplanned and unaccounted for, to complicate things further: Oliver, busy enough with the disintegration of his life, quite simply falls… in love. With Claire, a young nurse he meets at the clinic. This complicated surge of feelings sends Oliver into a tailspin of self-doubt and a subsequent date quickly turns into a kidnapping — seemingly against both kidnapper’s and victim’s will. Because what Oliver doesn’t quite realize yet is that the voices in his head are relentlessly driving him toward a specific goal, one with its share of consequences and copious bloodshed, one perhaps directly linked to his familial past and his desire to be rid of his condition.

[Video Interview] Emile Hirsch On Working With William Friedkin And What Scene Scared Him Most In ‘Killer Joe’

LD Entertainment will soon release Killer Joe, which is directed by the man behind The Exorcist and To Live And Die In LA – William Friedkin. This may not sound like a horror film to you – but it is indeed bloody and disgusting. It’s also very entertaining. One of the ways in which the film is at its pitch black (and hilarious) best is when it’s detailing the increasingly giant clusterf*ck Emile Hirsch’s Chris Smith digs himself into. He’s in trouble from frame one and can’t keep from sinking deeper.

I recently spoke with Hirsch about what it was like to inhabit a character whose physicality kept changing with every beating he received. We also talked about what it was like to work with William Friedkin and which material in the script freaked him out the most.

First TV Spot For ‘The Possession’ Brings The Crazy At The End

I haven’t seen The Possession yet, but I hear it’s actually really good. A few of my more discerning friends have seen it and reported back with largely positive things to say. This first TV spot more or less plays like the trailer did, but it’s alway nice to see a little bit more footage. Especially now that I know that is actually Matisyahu. For real.

Based on a true story, ‘The Possession’ is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. Update: AMC has released a new video that features Special Effects Make-Up Designer Greg Nicotero, also added inside.

Last night AMC aired a clip from the upcoming Third Season of The Walking Dead after a pre comic-con Season 2 marathon. And it contains one of your favorite characters from the comics, Michonne, doing her thing. I’d expect a lot more of this stuff to hit right before or during SDCC, but this is a pretty cool preview!

The show, “tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

Panelists include Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Denai Guerrero, David Morrisey, Executive Producer and Showrunner Glen Mazzara, Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd, Executive Producer Robert Kirkman and Co-Executive Producer and Special Effects Make-up Supervisor Greg Nicotero.

New Trailer For ‘Total Recall’ Finds A Way To Make Having Three Breasts Look Boring

So far the only interesting thing about Columbia Pictures’ Len Wiseman (Underworld) directed Total Recall are those viral “Rekall” posters. Those are pretty cool. But I’m actually glad they came out after we’d seen some footage from the movie because they might have raised my expectations somewhat. As it stands – and this includes the new trailer posted below – everything I’ve seen is so bland. Sure, there’s a bunch of stuff flying around onscreen, but I literally can’t think of a movie that embodies the way remakes neuter their source material more than this one seems to. It also needlessy recycles the line, “If I’m not me, who the hell am I?

Which is a shame. I actually really like most of the talent involved in this, it’s not like I want to dislike this movie. Here’s hoping we’ll be pleasantly surprised when the movie comes out in a little over a month. And hey! At least it has the three mammary glanded woman!

In theaters August 3, “ ‘Total Recall’ is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.
