“I saw the virgin’s cunt spawning forth the snake.” This is the opening line to The Satanist, the much anticipated new album from Polish blackened metal band Behemoth. To say that it sets the tone for the album is an understatement. It is the beginning of a vicious aural assault, one that is both aggressive and dynamic, something that is entirely not for the faint of heart.
It’s been a long five years since Evangelion, a delay that was at one point filled with uncertainty and fear due to frontman Nergal’s battle with leukemia. But the past is behind us and we can now eagerly look forward to a future with The Satanist. READ MORE

I’m not much of one for Tumblr. It’s just not my kinda scene. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate just how ridiculous and amazing some of the Tumblr sites can be. And every once in a while a site comes along that just blows all others out of the water. Such is the case with Metal Albums With Googly Eyes, which is now one of my favorite things on the planet. I’ve grabbed a few selections that you can see below but for the rest you should click on that there link! READ MORE

When it comes to sheer heretical metal, there are few bands that manage to make such an impact as Poland’s Behemoth. The group has released one acclaimed album after another, never shying away from controversy. In fact, they welcome it with open arms. And such is the case with their latest offering, The Satanist. Frontman Nergal comments on the title, explaining, “The Satanist’ stands for undying yearning for liberation and love for freedom in all aspects of life. Considering all our life experiences that often took dramatic curves I couldn’t think of more appropriate and fitting statement of who and where we are now.”
The Satanist ranked as one of my most anticipated albums of 2014, I’ve been eagerly eating up every bit of news I could find about it. And now, today, I get to bring you some news exclusively from the band themselves! Behemoth has been posting prologue videos describing the new album and we’re here to bring you an exclusive first look at the 3rd part!
In this clip, drummer Zbigniew “Inferno” Promiński explains how he approached his role not just as a creator of rhythm but also as an attempt to induce a trance-like state, something, “…that activates the dormant areas of your brain.” Head on below to enter this dark, hypnotic world.
Make sure to pre-order your copy of The Satanist via iTunes, Metal Blade Records (US), or Nuclear Blast (Europe). READ MORE
Polish metal band Behemoth has posted a second clip that goes behind-the-scenes of their upcoming album The Satanist, which comes out February 4th via Metal Blade Records. In this clip, vocalist/guitarist Nergal discusses the times when the band would simply jam out during rehearsals, letting the music overtake them to see what would come forth. The black and white clip is shot almost like a scene from a horror film, with ravens flying amongst leafless trees during a cold winter day. Super atmospheric stuff. READ MORE

Perhaps one of the best music videos this year, Behemoth‘s “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” is a horrific, nightmarish vision, matching the intensity and terrifying nature of the song itself. Polish black metal masters Behemoth have been teasing the official music video for “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel”, the first single from their upcoming album The Satanist, for several weeks and each teaser video filled me with more and more anticipation. And now the video has finally arrived and it’s all I could’ve wanted and more! Directed by Grupa 13 (the team behind the fantastic “Lucifer” video), the black-and-white video is full of horrific, blasphemous, NSFW scenes. Overflowing with atmosphere, it’s a fantastic video and well worth watching for any horror fan.
As for the music, the song sounds like a step forward, almost like a new territory that has been opened. It’s still viciously brutal but there is a complexity here that makes it stand out. It definitely has me excited for the full album!
Pre-orders for The Satanist can be found here. Below is a quote from singer/guitarist Nergal as well as the official artwork. READ MORE

Wacken Open Air, the world’s largest heavy metal festival, has announced that all 75,000 tickets for the 2014 show have sold in less than 48 hours. Let me reiterate that, shall I? A concert that isn’t going to happen for 358 days has sold out in less than 48 hours!!! It is the ninth year in a row that Wacken has sold out and, in this case, only 12 bands have even been announced! However, I do have to say that some of them are pretty damn awesome. Attendees will be able to check out bands like Amon AmarthM, Behemoth, Children Of Bodom, Prong, Emperor, King Diamond, and more. Additional bands will be announced over the next several months.

Polish black metal legends Behemoth have announced via their Facebook that their upcoming album The Satanist has been delayed until early 2014. No reason was given but the band did state that the release will also be accompanied by an extensive headlining tour.
Nergal describes the album: “It took us over two decades to come up with a title that…says it all. While our new songs artistically take surprisingly adventurous directions, our message stands steadfast—Proud and Radical. The Satanist stands for undying yearning for liberation and love for freedom in all aspects of life. Considering all our life experiences that often took dramatic curves I couldn’t think of more appropriate and fitting statement of who and where we are now.”
Behemoth were forced to drop off the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival when drummer Inferno was forced to undergo emergency surgery for his appendix. This was definitely a disappointment for me as they were one of the bands I was most excited to see. Ah well, c’est la vie, right? READ MORE

Personally, I’m very bummed about this. Behemoth was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to go to the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival as I’ve never had the opportunity to see them live. Hopefully this can be amended in the near future. READ MORE

Newly wed couple Dan Phillipps and wife Kinga decided to start their wedding off with a bit of a bang by entering the hall to Slayer‘s “Raining Blood”. In a story to Blabbermouth.net, Phillipps stated, “Slayer has always been a very special band to me. Slayer, Metallica and Anthrax were the reasons I got into heavy metal. I remember first hearing ‘Hell Awaits’ in 1987 and being blown away. I never heard anything like it.
“When I first met Kinga, I didn’t know she was into extreme music. She’s from Poland so I randomly asked her if she heard of Behemoth or Vader. To my surprise, she heard of them and had seen them live in concert a few times. So we instantly clicked. Our second date was a Rotting Christ concert.
“When I was planning our wedding intro, I knew that I didn’t want your typical wedding music for our intro. I spoke to Kinga about it and she agreed. A standard wedding intro just didn’t seem right for my wife and I. Something about the ‘Raining Blood’ intro seemed like the perfect walk-out music for us. I got goosebumps just thinking about it. Most of my friends and family loved our intro. They said it was perfect for my wife and I.”

In what might become the most metal mode of transportation, Polish custom motorcycle shop Game Over Cycles will be unveiling the official Behemoth motorcycle this May. A video can be seen below that shows bits and pieces of the bike being put together, although a full revealing shot is not given (such teases). Playing over the short video are excerpts from Behemoth’s song “Ov Fire And The Void”.
Just so you know, the only appropriate way to ride this motorcycle is to wear corpse paint whenever you’re on the road. Anything less is simply unacceptable. READ MORE
One of the biggest summer festivals in the US, the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival has been bringing quality metal from countries all over the world, from platinum selling artists to underground artists that deserve a chance, and all at a pretty damn good price. Honestly, I’m a huge fan of the tour because it’s usually got at least three or four bands that I love checking out live and would normally not get an opportunity to see on such a large scale.
As for this year’s lineup, nothing has been officially announced (although Polish death metal band Behemoth is almost certainly confirmed [source]). However, that isn’t stopping the tour from teasing their fans and building up anticipation. Below is a video that shows past years and what the festival looked like along with the announcement that the full lineup will be revealed on Mar. 18th. READ MORE
It’s hard to believe that Metal Blade Records has been around for 30 years but here they are, still rocking and bringing some of the very best metal to fans ears. While there, Scion A/V conducted interviews with each band as well as recorded the showcase to release a 7″ featuring a track from both Gypsyhawk and Pilgrim. You can download the 7″ below and head on over here to see some awesome interviews.
I look back at Metal Blade and, while I’ve enjoyed some of their more recent years, I cannot thank them enough for introducing me to bands like GWAR, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, Battlecross, Mercyful Fate, and so many, many more. Metal Blade is one of those labels that didn’t just release music, they helped shaped the very foundation of metal would become.
And so I raise my official Metal Blade pint glass and say, “Congratulations Metal Blade on making it to 30 years. Here’s to another 30 of you kicking asses all over the place!” READ MORE
