Film Arcade and Paramount Home Media Distribution have announced that the independent film Ghost Team One will be released day-and-date in select theaters, on VOD, and on Digital on October 11. Check out three clips from the laughter that Bloody’s Patrick Cooper sorta enjoyed.
“Ghost Team One follows two friends who are both trying to impress a girl who believes the spirit of a vengeful madam is haunting their home. They set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago and, much to their surprise, soon capture some terrifying—and uproarious—supernatural activity that leads them to believe that the ghost is not only real…she’s also into them.”
Ghost Team One is produced by Hernany Perla (My Bloody Valentine) and Adam Mutchler, directed by Ben Peyser (Sucks Less with Kevin Smith) and Scott Rutherford (writer on “Workaholics”), and stars actor and comedian Carlos Santos (host of MTV Tr3s’ “Mi TRL”), J.R. Villarreal (Akeelah and the Bee), Tony Cavalero (Son of a Pitch), and Fernanda Romero (RPM Miami). PHMD acquired the worldwide rights to the film in a deal that was brokered by Nate Bolotin and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films and Chris Sablan of Original Artists. READ MORE
Ever since Paranormal Activity took cinemas by storm (for better or worse), there has been an onslaught of imitators and parodies. This year alone saw Scary Movie 5 and A Haunted House, both really horrible films. While it wasn’t found-footage, the recent Hell Baby managed to scrounge up some laughs – although the film overall was very uneven. And now just in time for Halloween, Ghost Team One enters the ring…
Directed by comedians Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford, Ghost Team One is one of the best horror-comedies of 2013. That being said, it suffers from a lot of cheap, frat boy humor. There are several moments of zooming in on boobs and crotches, mimicking sex with a camcorder, and other lazy crap you’d expect from a DTV National Lampoon flick. Thankfully, not all of the comedy relies on infantile flourishes – there are some genuinely clever moments and the plot is as gleefully immature as it is original. The finale honestly had my funny bone crying uncle. Ghost Team One is a bumpy experience, but a worthwhile one. READ MORE
Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford’s Ghost Team One will be playing at the Slamdance festival later this month. Starring Carlos Santos, Fernanda Romero, J.R. Villarreal, Meghan Folcone, Tony Cavalero, James Babson, Scott MacArthur, and Craig Stott, it’s a subversive, comedic take on the found footage genre wherein two roommates deathly afraid of ghosts both fall in love with a girl who believes their home is haunted.
Now Indiewire has their hands on the trailer, and it looks like a lot of low budget fun. I think I’d actually see this movie!
In the film, “In order to impress a girl, two roommates set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago. The girl thinks that the victim’s ghost still resides there, and the two guys think that making a movie with her will get them laid. But after setting cameras up around the house, the legitimately supernatural occurrences that follow make it apparent that the ghost is not only real, but that she’s a vengeful Vietnamese madame from the 1930’s that’s become smitten with our guys.”
