This is the third “Check Out This Band” I’ve written and I’m digging it. It gives me a chance to bring you bands that I’m personally impressed by, interested in, or simply just really enjoying. And for this edition I want to introduce you to Canadian progressive metal band The Kindred, who have their Sumerian Records debut album Life In Lucidity coming out February 25th (pre-order here). What I enjoy about these guys is that they have a lot of dynamics going on and they fully understand that they can have complexity so long as it doesn’t interfere with good songwriting.
Below is the band’s latest video for “Everbound”, which demonstrates those features I was talking about. Check it out and let me know what you think of ‘em! READ MORE
Metalcore band Hatebreed has unveiled an official music video for “Put It To The Torch”, which comes off their upcoming album The Divinity of Purpose. The video was directed by Justin Reich (A Skylit Drive, Between the Buried And Me, Black Label Society). Their new album comes out Jan. 29th.
The only thing that I could think of during the first half of the video was this clip:
Between The Buried And Me have released a music video for “Astral Body” that comes off their upcoming album The Parallax II: Future Sequence (pre-order here), which comes out Oct. 9th via Metal Blade Records. The video, which is highly stylized and full of CG landscapes, brought a lot of thoughts into my head and I felt like I should share them with you. Admittedly, they’re a bit scattered but the video kinda did that to me. Check out my thoughts below and lend your theories in the comments! READ MORE
Readers, mark your calendars for Sept. 4th. On that date, Bloody-Disgusting will be premiering what might be one of the greatest music videos of all time: Nekrogoblikon‘s “No One Survives”. Yeah, I went there. “Big words,” you say? I’m holding firm and standing my ground. I’ve seen more music videos than I care to think about, so I feel pretty confident in this claim. Below is a teaser for the video.
The song comes from Nekrogoblikon’s 2011 album Stench, which you can snag off of Bandcamp (I highly recommend it. It’s loads of fun). You can also follow the band on their official Facebook.
The band will also be playing at the The Grove in Anaheim, CA on Aug. 25th as part of the Summer Slaughter tour, which features Cannibal Corpse, Periphery, Between The Buried And Me, The Faceless, and many more. Tickets can be found here. READ MORE
Bloody-Disgusting has teamed up with Metal Blade Records artist Job For A Cowboy to bring you an amazing, intense music video for their song “Tarnished Gluttony”, which comes off their latest album Demonocracy. Directed by Michael Panduro (the man behind the fantastic Cephalic Carnage “Ohrwurm” video), the video is deceptively subtle, almost poetic. Suddenly, everything changes in one horrific moment. Featuring strong Lovecraft-ian elements, this music video is definitely NSFW, so take heed and be careful where you watch it.
Job For A Cowboy are currently on tour on the Summer Slaughter Festival. Remaining tour dates are below. READ MORE
Metal Blade Records artist Between The Buried And Me are gearing up for the release of their latest studio album The Parallex II: Future Sequence (pre-orders available here). To whet the appetite of fans, the band is now streaming the song “Telos”, a near 10-minute epic track of progressive metal brutality. You can listen to the song below.

Metal Blade Records artist Between The Buried And Me will be releasing The Parallax II: Full Sequence, their seventh full-length studio album, on October 9th. Jamie King, friend of the band and producer, engineered, mixed, and mastered the album while Chandler Owen has taken care of the artwork.
The album is a continuation of the story of their 2011 EP, The Parallax: Hypersleep. Guitarist Paul Waggoner further explains, “The two main characters of the story take on a journey through space and time with the unenviable task of having to cure the flaws of humanity by any means necessary. While the EP served mostly as an introduction to the characters, Future Sequence contains the action of the story. The lyrics are written in the stream of consciousness style, which really helps to capture the perspective and emotion of the characters. We really enjoyed the challenge of writing this record, and I think we were all pleasantly surprised with how well the music and lyrics jived with one another. I couldn’t be happier with how Future Sequence turned out.”

Nick Schendzielos, bassist of Job For A Cowboy, will be forced to sit out the first few weeks of the Summer Slaughter Tour due to his girlfriend being involved in a head-on collision on her scooter. Mike “Gunface” McKenzie from The Red Chord will be taking his place during that time. All tour dates for the festival, which is headlined by Cannibal Corpse and features bands such as Periphery, Between The Buried and Me, The Faceless, and more, can be seen below.
Comments Schendzielos: “Hey friends: On June 28, immediately after landing in Boston to rehearse for Puerto Rico/Summer Slaughter, my girlfriend was in a head-on collision on her scooter. She sustained very serious head and bodily injuries. I flew right home, and we’ve been in the ICU for a week and are still in the hospital to make sure everything is okay. She needs 24/7 supervision for at least two weeks once we get out of here, so I’m very grateful to announce that Gunface from The Red Chord is going to help me out filling in on Summer Slaughter until I can meet back up with it. We love the dude very much and it’s going to be really cool for both JFAC and TRC fans to see. Enormous thanks for understanding this difficult situation and I’ll be back as soon as possible!”
Adds McKenzie: “I’m excited to be playing with JFAC on this tour. Great dudes in this band as well as in the bands on Summer Slaughter. Playing bass is a little different for me but definitely an interesting challenge. I’m definitely looking forward to getting out on the road again. Nick’s bass work is incredible and I’m working hard to get all of his parts down. Sending positive vibes out to him and his lady.”
My best wishes go out to Schendzielos’ girlfriend on a speedy recovery. READ MORE
I first saw 3 several years ago opening up for Porcupine Tree. Immediately hooked, I saw them again on the Progressive Nation tour with Dream Theater, Opeth, and Between The Buried And Me. Their album The End Is Begun is still a favorite of mine and one that I highly recommend to people who are interested in getting into some heavy prog.
Well, the official word is out that a new 3 album, The Ghost You Gave To Me, will be coming out in early October. Queue me pitching a tent. In my backyard. God, sometimes you people disappoint me so much.
Check after the jump to hear their new single, Numbers, and make sure to head to their landing page to order a copy of their latest album.

“It will be so exciting to get back out on the road and play some tunes for all our wonderful fans,” said BTBAM guitarist Paul Waggoner. “Our anticipation for this tour is massive and I hope that sentiment is shared by all the metal geeks out there. The bill is loaded with some of the most forward-thinking, virtuosic musicians in the genre and the audience can expect to hear all 12 notes in every humanly audible octave many times during the course of the evening!”
Check after the jump for all tour dates. I’ll be at St. Andrews Hall on the 10th. Where will you be?

Addicted (review HERE) was released in Nov. 2009 and has become his fastest selling solo record in his career. Townsend is currently working on two new albums for 2011. The new, mind-blowing offering, Addicted, was met with worldwide critical praise and scored very impressive first week numbers debuting at #168 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #2 on the Billboard Heatseakers chart.
Since their formation in late 2004, Brighton, England quintet Architects UK have been on a continual ascendancy from the depths of the UK’s metal and hardcore underground to leaders of the scene. The band makes their much anticipated return to North America as part of the “Cool Tour,” which features As I Lay Dying, Underoath, Between the Buried and Me, Bless the Fall, The Acacia Strain, Cancer Bats and War of Ages. This massive, must see touring package kicks off on July 12th and runs through August 1st so be sure to visit www.myspace.com/architectsuk to view their complete touring itinerary.
Sam Carter (vocals) further states, “The ‘Cool Tour’ is going to be fucking awesome! I can’t remember the last time I saw a touring package with a line up this crazy so it’s an honor to be a part of it. All the bands are awesome and are totally doing their own thing. So many packages these days put together four or five bands that all sound exactly the same. To find eight bands that all have their own sound and put them together is amazing. Every day is going to be a party for sure so we hope to see you all soon.”
Architects UK just wrapped up the recording process for their new effort with renowned producer Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan) and look for that to be released early next year. In the meantime, a special reissue of the group’s past two albums, Ruin and Hollow Crown, are going to be made available together on one low priced disc for their upcoming tour, so be sure to pick it up while they are available as these are sure to go fast.
Orbs was founded back in 2007 by Dan Briggs (Between The Buried And Me), Adam Fisher (Fear Before), Clayton Holyoak (Fear Before) and Ashely Ellyllon (Abigail Williams, Cradle Of Filth). With that being said you could call this an insanely amazing super group. Recently they signed with respectable indie label Equal Vision Records to release the groups first full length album “Asleep Next To Science”. It’s fair to say I am super pumped for this release and look forward to their first offering. Read past the break for the official press release as well as the album artwork and track list!
San Diego’s Grammy®-nominated group As I Lay Dying are pleased to release their first production video from the band’s latest release The Powerless Rise, which just hit streets on May 11. As I Lay Dying chose the song “Parallels” for the band’s first music video off their new album, which was shot in Pittsburgh, PA on May 18 with director David Brodsky of MyGoodEye with animation handled by Mike Milyavsky & David Brodsky. Fans can view the video HERE.
In other news: As I Lay Dying’s The Powerless Rise, which debuted at #10, has now spent the last 4 weeks in Billboard Magazine’s Top 200 Charts coming in at #67! This achievement marks yet another major feat for the metal band that refuses to compromise their sound to conform to the mainstream as they continue to deliver heavy and melodic music to their fans around the world.
On July 12, As I Lay Dying will launch the “Cool Tour” with Underoath, Between the Buried and Me, Blessthefall, The Acacia Strain, Architects, Cancer Bats, and War of Ages. Wisconsin’s champions of thrash, Lazarus A.D., are unleashing their new video for the track ‘Absolute Power’ off the critically acclaimed debut album, The Onslaught, this Monday when the band hosts Headbangers Ball*. The video, like their other two, was directed by Jason Meudt and Emmet Austin of Vision 4 Films and features a brutal underground street fight; if you’re a fan of metal and/or the movie Kickboxer, you’ll dig this video!
The band comments: “Hey make sure to check out HBB this Monday, when the Laz will host and undoubtedly make fools of ourselves (I believe beverages were consumed).
Also just a quick update, we enter the studio in three weeks, we have been hard at work writing, things are sounding absolutely crushing, and we can’t wait for you to hear it. Check back soon for upcoming studio updates.”
*NOTE: HEADBANGERS BALL IS NOW ON MONDAY NIGHTS AT 3AM ET/PT.

Forced to miss its European tour with Rotten Sound and Aborted due to the effects of the recent volcano in Iceland, The Red Chord has lined up an amazing weekend’s worth of shows for fans on the East Coast.
Saturday, April 24, The Red Chord will play the main stage at the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest in Worcester, MA, alongside Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth, and Job For A Cowboy. This last-minute NEMHF appearance is a homecoming of sorts for The Red Chord who hail from nearby Boston and who have played the now-legendary fest five times, starting in 2003.
Sunday, April 25, The Red Chord heads to Brooklyn, NY, to headline a show at Public Assembly with Premonitions Of War and Tiger Flowers. This is an ultra rare opportunity for fans to witness The Red Chord at a tiny venue. The alliance between The Red Chord and Premonitions Of War dates back to 2003 when the two bands teamed up on a self-booked US tour (along with none other than Between The Buried And Me!). The Red Chord frontman Guy Kozowyk went on to release a Premonitions Of War CD, Glorified Dirt + The True Face of Panic, on his label, Black Market Activities.
As the oversaturated deathcore scene becomes even more diluted with each passing day a new group of likeminded individuals are taking things in a new direction by pushing the boundaries of precision, speed and technicality to inhuman levels. Burning The Masses will release their much anticipated new album, ‘Offspring of Time’, on July 20th through Mediaskare Records. This album blends the best elements of Between The Buried And Me, Cannibal Corpse and Necrophagist, so head over now to www.myspace.com/burningthemasses to check out the scathing new track “Resonance of The Foul” and access many specially priced pre-order package deals, which are limited, so be sure to get your orders in now.
