Joel McHale Will ‘Beware the Night’ With ‘Sinister’ Director

“Community” star Joel McHale, pictured, is in final negotiations to join Eric Bana in Beware the Night, Screen Gems’ Jerry Bruckheimer-produced supernatural thriller, Heat Vision reports.

Sean Harris, who appeared in Prometheus, is also joining the cast.

Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister) is directing the project, which “centers around a New York street cop (Bana) who has put his faith in religion behind him but now finds himself targeted by the Devil in the form of possessed soldier (Harris).

McHale is veering from his usual comedic roles and taking a dramatic turn, playing Bana’s partner, an experienced and tough cop. Edgar Ramirez is already on board as a Jesuit priest, while Olivia Munn is playing the cop’s wife.

Derrickson wrote the script with Paul Harris Boardman. Screen Gems is to release January 16, 2015.

‘Sinister’ Director’s ‘Beware the Night’ Gets Release Date

Fans of Sinister have a long wait until director Scott Derrickson’s next movie…

Sony Screen Gems has slated Derrickson’s Beware the Night for release on January 16, 2015.

Casting is currently underway for an August shoot in New York. Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn, pictured below, will all star.

Derrickson Tells Munn And Ramirez To ‘Beware The Night’

Director Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day The Earth Stood Still) has added Olivia Munn (pictured above; “Newsroom”) and Edgar Ramirez (The Bourne Ultimatum) to the cast of his paranormal police thriller, Beware the Night, per Deadline. They join the previously cast Eric Bana (who boarded the film in November). Derrickson co-wrote the rewrite with Paul Boardman and the film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

[Casting Bites] Anne Hathaway For ‘Robopocalypse,’ Eric Bana For ‘Beware the Night’

Anne Hathaway (pictured) will join both Ben Whishaw and Chris Hemsworth in Robopocalypse, the Steven Spielberg adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s novella, reports Empire. “If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it,” she tells Empire, “and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.” Penned by Cloverfield‘s Drew Goddard, the plot explores the fate of the human race following a robot uprising.

‘Sinister’ Director Joins NYPD To Hunt Creatures In ‘Beware the Night’

Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day The Earth Stood Still) has signed on to direct the paranormal police thriller, Beware the Night and will also be re-writing the script, a representative for Derrickson reveals to TheWrap.

Familiar territory for Derrickson, “The story is set in a paranormal world and follows a New York police officer investigating real life demon possessions, exorcisms and werewolves after dark.

The lead role was offered to Mark Wahlberg who passed on the project, according to a rep for Screen Gems, which is producing the film. The project also reportedly involves Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney.

Last year, Derrickson signed on to direct Two Eyes Starring, a remake of the Dutch thriller, Zwart Water with Charlize Theron for Summit Entertainment.
