Atrocious (limited)

Atrocious focuses on the case of a brother and sister who investigate a local urban myth while on holiday, resulting in strange occurrences at the family’s summer house.

In April 4th of 2010, Quintanilla family was found murdered in their country side house. Police reported the existence of 37 hours of recorded evidence. “Atrocious” shows the real images of such evidence. Quintanilla family traveled to their old farm house in Sitges, where Christian and July investigated about the Legend of the Girl in the Garraf woods. Both of them used to record all day whatever they did. On the fifth day of their arrival they were found dead under strange circumstances. ATROCIOUS shows the last five days of life for Cristian Quintanilla and his siblings. It also shows the strange situations that they lived in those moments and which remain unexplained.

Cold Fish (limited)

UNRATED July release: Strange Circus, Love Exposure and Suicide Club director Sion Sono is heading back to the gore with a new thriller entitled Cold Fish, which was being teased at this past year’s EFM in Berlin. Revealed to be “a true-life serial killer story”, the massive synopsis can be found here.

When Shamoto’s teenage daughter was caught stealing, a generous middle-aged man helps to resolve the situation. Coincidentally, both Shamoto and the man owned a tropical fish store. The man offers Shamoto to have his troublesome daughter to work at the man’s store. Shamoto and his wife accept all the kind offers that the man and his wife make, however, Shamoto soon discovers the horrific truth of the seemingly perfect couple… Exploiting Shamoto’s weakness, the couple forces him to get his hands dirty in their brutal business. Inspired by a true event, COLD FISH is a bloodcurdling suspense drama that unveils the underlying insanity of an ordinary man.

Bloody Disgusting Selects: Action-Styled Action in Post-Apocalyptic ‘Hellacious Acres’!!

I’m super excited to report that we’ve acquired North American rights to the post-apocalyptic comedy Hellacious Acres: The Case of John Glass for limited theatrical (we’ll be going art house with this guy), VOD and DVD release as part of their Bloody Disgusting Selects film series. The pic was first announced here on Bloody this past June and premiered at Fantasia.

Montreal-based director Pat Tremblay wrote, directed and played the titular character in Hellacious along with editing, co-scoring and creating most of the visual effects. Cast includes Navin Pratap, Jamie Abrams, Paula J. Davis, Laurent Lecompte and Francis Dubois.

The story centers on a man suffering from amnesia who wakes up inside a cryogenic freezer as a robotic voice bombards him with information about World War III.

Inside you’ll find what is easily one of my favorite trailers of the year. Get ready for “action-styled action” and a whole lotta walking…

Tremblay’s most recent films Heads of Control: The Gorul Baheu Brain Expedition and Truck Lover screened as part of Montreal’s Festival du Nouveau Cinema.

Hellacious Acres was acquired out of its North American premiere as an official selection of the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.

Straight out of the Sitges and Slamdance Film Festivals, Bloody Disgusting Selects is proud to announce the limited release of Fernando Barreda Luna’s Spanish found footage horror Atrocious (review), which has since garnered a tide of online buzz and quick comparisons to 2008′s Paranormal Activity.

Bloody Disgusting Selects: Trailer for Uncut ‘Cold Fish’ Release

Updated with official trailer! I think we got out of the gate pretty strong with the release of Rammbock (now available on DVD and VOD), but right now we’re gearing up for both Phase 7 (in theaters July 17) and what I think is one of the best movies of the year, Cold Fish, Sion Sono’s absolutely psychotic Japanese black comedy in the vein of a Takashi Miike film. I’d go on record as pretty much guaranteeing that you’re going to LOVE it (I reviewed it last September out of TIFF).

In order to keep Cold Fish UNCUT, Bloody Disgusting Selects is going out with the film UNRATED in limited arthouses beginning on August 5, which could expand if it does well enough. We’ve got those dates for you inside. For those of you not in the limited marketplace, Cold Fish will arrive on DVD and iTunes August 23, with an Amazon pre-order option now available. VOD fans (that’s me!) can catch it as it begins to spread from September 23-November 22.

Bloody Disgusting Selects: Hyper-Charged Trailer for ‘Phase 7′

It was announced yesterday that Bloody Disgusting Selects will bring the apocalypse this July with Nicolás Goldbart’s Argentine apocalyptic horror film Phase 7 (Fase 7), which opens exclusively at AMC locations on July 13 (Wednesday and Friday nights). Executive produced by Steven Schneider (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) and starring Daniel Hendler, Jazmín Stuart, Yayo Guridi and Federico Luppi (Pan’s Labyrinth), Phase 7 premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March, and also screened at the Boston Underground Film Festival and the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival.

We have now added the official theatrical trailer that can be viewed below. It’s a hyper-charged look at the end of the world, which comes courtesy of the New World Order. Freaky stuff….

Before its theatrical release, it will screen at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and the Danger After Dark Festival in Philadelphia–both in early July.

The film mixes satire, humor, horror and social commentary in a way that reminds viewers of the arch Shaun of the Dead and the savvy claustrophobia of [REC].

In the film, Coco (Hendler) has just moved to a new apartment with his wife Pipi (Stuart), who’s seven months pregnant. At first, they don’t seem to notice the growing chaos around them, but when authorities quarantine their building after a deadly pandemic breaks out, Coco joins forces with his off-kilter, but well-prepared and stocked next-door neighbor Horacio to defend his refrigerator and keep Pipi safe. Meanwhile, outside the building, Buenos Aires–and the world as the apartment denizens know it, is disappearing. The world is ending; got ammo?

YellowBrickRoad (limited)

An expedition looks for answers to something horrible in the forest, but the forest finds something horrible in them.

One Morning in New England, 1940, the entire population of Friar New Hampshire – 572 people – walked together up a winding mountain trail and into the wilderness. They left behind their clothes, their money, all of their essentials. Even their dogs were abandoned, tied to posts and left to starve. No One knows why. A search party dispatched by the U.S. Army eventually discovered the remains of nearly 300 of Friar’s evacuees. Many had frozen to death. Others were cruelly and mysteriously slaughtered. The bodies of the remaining citizens are still unaccounted for. Over the years, a quiet cover-up operation managed to weave the story of Friar into the stuff of legends and backwoods fairy tales. The town has slowly repopulated, but the vast wilderness is mostly untracked, with the northern-most stretches off limits to local hunters and loggers. In 2008, the coordinates for the “YELLOWBRICKROAD” trail head were declassified. The first official expedition into a dark and twisted wilderness will attempt to solve the mystery of the lost citizens of Friar…and reach the end of the trail.
