Viral Video For ‘The Host 2′ Takes The Loch Ness Approach!

There’s an apparent (unconfirmed) viral video floating around for The Host 2, the sequel to Bong Joon-Ho’s amazing The Host. Actually, even if it isn’t “official” it still qualifies as viral promotion, doesn’t it? Perhaps even more so? Anyway it takes a look at the events of the first film through a semi-documentary lens that sort of reminds me of people trying to prove the Loch Ness Monster exists.

The Host 2 has been written by Im Pil-sung and will be directed by Park Myung-chun, who will be making his feature debut. There will be TWO monsters in the movie.

It’s expected out in early summer 2014. READ MORE

Meet The Glamorous Cast Of ‘Snowpiercer’!

From The Host‘s Bong Joon-ho comes Snowpiercer, a heavily dystopian sci-fi film from Dimension that I’m getting super excited about. These character posters are ok, but it’s the concept that intrigues me the most.

The post-apocalyptic thriller stars Captain America‘s Chris Evans, as well as Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Alison Pill, Song Kang-ho, Ewen Bremner and Kenny Doughty.

Here’s Your Passport To Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Snowpiercer’!!

From The Host‘s Bong Joon-ho comes Snowpiercer, a Dimension film we’ve been talking about for quite some time but have seen frustratingly little of. We’ve gotten some concept art, a few stills and some snippets of the score – but it still feels very far off. Now we can add a little bit to the pile – neat promo passports for the cast and crew of the film! They’re pretty cool – but I’m itching for a trailer.

Being sold by the Weinstein Company at the ongoing EFM, the post-apocalyptic thriller stars Captain America‘s Chris Evans, as well as Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Alison Pill, Song Kang-ho, Ewen Bremner and Kenny Doughty.

Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Alison Pill, Song Kang-ho, Ewen Bremner John Hurt and Ed Harris star in The Host director Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer. A few weeks back we delivered some concept art and a poster for the film and now we have the first official still (via The Film Stage). In it, Song Kang-ho’s character appears to be carrying someone to safety. One could assume he’s from the steerage portion of this class-divided train.

Produced by Oldboy helmer Park Chan-wook, Snowpiercer is a post-apocalyptic thriller set in a world covered in snow and ice, story follows a train full of travelers who struggle to co-exist.

Poster, Art And Music From Bong Joon-Ho’s ‘Snowpiercer’!

I’d almost forgotten about this one. Which is weird considering the cast and the director. Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Ewen Bremner John Hurt and Ed Harris in The Host director Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer. We’d done some reporting on this right around the time I started in 2011 and now we’re finally getting some interesting stuff (via The Film Stage) like a teaser poster, some concept art and even a snippet of the score!

We Might Finally Know What’s Going On With ‘The Host 2′, Pencil Your Calendars For 2014

There’s been a ton of confusing info about The Host 2, the sequel to Bong Joon-Ho’s amazing The Host, floating around recently. Good thing are friends at Twitch are on the case and are sorting out the details, because it’s been immensely difficult to even figure out who’s directing the damn thing.

I’m going to type this as plainly as possible to avoid more confusion. Everything we’ve seen from the sequel so far has been test footage, per the film’s producer Choi Yong-bae. The actual film is about to be shot. The script has been written by Im Pil-sung and the movie will be directed by Park Myung-chun, who will be making his feature debut. There will be TWO monsters in the movie.

And it’s expected out in early summer 2014. That’s pretty much it, but at least the facts are straight. Head inside to get a look at that test footage. READ MORE

First Footage From ‘Host 2′ Brings Creature Action!!

Nearly seven years after Bong Joon-ho’s The Host hit the States, Ning Hao is behind the camera on Host 2 3D, the Korean sequel that’s been kept pretty tight-lipped, sans the continual leak of information of imagery and clips.

The sequel was said to have to tread carefully to avoid criticizing the Chinese government as the story will concern a calamity caused when people ignore a monster due to their desire for money.

Our friends at Twitch have caught wind of the first ever footage from the flick, one via a Macrograph 2012 showreel (see the monster starting at 0.27 and 3.00), the other in a full fledged clip! Says the site, the footage shows the hungry creature wrecking havoc upon an unsuspecting family, tearing up on a moving truck, and then chasing two helpless children for a quick snack.

The CG effects were produced domestically by Macrograph, the VFX company behind R2B: Return to Base (aka Soar Into the Sun), A Chinese Ghost Story and Stephen Chow’s upcoming Journey to the West. READ MORE

First Clip From ‘The Host 2′ Tramples Online!!

I wasn’t even entirely sure they had begun shooting The Host 2, but it looks like they’re done! Or, at least, they’re done with this clip! It’s actually a really cool action sequence, albiet one that looks like it entirely recreates an important beat from the first film.

There’s some confusion regarding what exactly is going on with the sequel. Even Imdbpro lists it as still in “development”. They don’t even have a director listed. Some people have pegged the film’s writer Ning Hao as being the guy behind the camera, while other reports have Park Myeong-chan as the helmer. More on this – and the release date – as it comes in.

Either way, it looks good! The clip comes from VFX house Micrograph and includes some behind the scenes footage. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

The Host (KR) (limited)

The story concerns a carnivorous mutant in Seoul’s Han River that attacks city folk. The monster itself was created by Weta, Orphanage, and Creature Workshop.

Gang-du (SONG Kang-ho) works at a food-stand on the banks of the Han River. Dozing on the job, he is awakened by his daughter, Hyun-seo (KO A-sung), who is angry with him for missing a teacher-parent meeting at school. As Gang-du walks out to the riverbank with a delivery, he notices that a large crowd of people has gathered, taking pictures and talking about something hanging from the Han River Bridge. The otherwise idyllic landscape turns suddenly to bedlam when a terrifying creature climbs up onto the riverbank and begins to crush and eat people. Gang-du and his daughter run for their lives but suddenly the thing grabs Hyun-seo and disappears back into the river. The government announces that the thing apparently is the Host of an unidentified virus. Having feared the worst, Gang-du receives a phone call from his daughter who is frightened, but very much alive. Gang-du makes plans to infiltrate the forbidden zone near the Han River to rescue his daughter from the clutches of the horrifying Host…
